Pre CU was so incredibly boring, not that NGE is much better. Personally I can't wait for TOR...no sandbox, balanced classes and a story driven game. I don't expect I'll see many SWG vets and Bioware has pretty much said they don't want them anywhere near their game, which is kinda of a shame. I think though if more SWG vets distanced themselves with the really over the top things like the Rodoreport and MMOfringe they wouldn’t be viewed as so …out there for lack of a better term.
Pre-CU/Pre-Jedi tbh, SWG before jedi ruined it was my favourite game... as for TOR, not really interested in just another storylined WoW retread..(might be wrong on that count but thats how it looks to me so far!) FE really does have possibilities, but its not yet at the stage where for me, its worth playing.. my main Game is still Eve, the only other game thats even sparked my interest.. is APB...
This! Wasn't Jedi, wasn't Vets, wasn't the reading. Greed, arrogance, a complete lack of understanding of the customer and the indifference towards them is what ruined it.
I would like another crack at precu. I enjoyed it the first time around, despite its flaws. Fallen Earth is close but compared to precu swg lacks in many areas.
Sony ruined pre-CU SWG, by doing one simple thing.
Letting Jedi out of the box.
When the game was close to release, they said that there would only be two people in the entire galaxy within the game that would have 'Jedi' abilites, Vader and the Emperor.
Sounded fair to me, because we all knew before game release that if they put Jedi into the game, everyone would want to be a Jedi.
By opening that Pandora's Box so quickly after release, SOE ensured themselves that they would have no time to work on anything else. Nothing else in the game got fixed, because resources got allocated to Jedi, Jedi, Jedi.
That is why the CU happened.
And the NGE.
All for one class in the game that never should have been in the game.
The original SWG attracted a certain type of player, one who could appreciate the game for what it was. Now, in the NGE, you see either die hard veterans who managed to adapt, or newer younger quick-gratification schmucks.
The original game was ahead of its time. In terms of all the different things you can do in an MMORPG, it's still ahead of its time. And one single decision to allow an alpha class to spring forth within the game too soon ruined everything.
Old School SWG - "I paid you 1,000,000 credits not for you to slice my Krayt weapon for me... I paid you 1,000,000 credits to give it BACK to me."
"newer younger quick-gratification schmucks" Why are people so rude these days? maybe they just like the game because they aint whiny little Bi%"£es.
Alright, let me clarify. I didn't mean everyone, it was a generalization. But I have since the NGE came out encountered a LOT of rude, WoW like gearheads on my server. I don't question why they like the game.
Since you want to made rudeness an issue, I am simply pointing out that in my experience, the quality of mature people I see in SWG since the switch to the NGE has dwindled significantly. The NGE has probably naturally attracted a different audience. Given that the game used to be better in my opinion, I see nothing wrong with complaining about that. This is, after all the SWG Veteran Refuge.

The developers that made the Pre-CU game are all gone and the talent with them. The new devs likely don't even know how to read or produce the quality of work that the old ones did. This is supported by new content being added with original content being largely untouched, updated or fixed.
This! Wasn't Jedi, wasn't Vets, wasn't the reading. Greed, arrogance, a complete lack of understanding of the customer and the indifference towards them is what ruined it.
Too true...And amazingly enough these problems lasted well into the NGE...Talk about stubborn!

Where did they say they didn't want SWG Vets playing SWTOR? I really would love to see it. I played Pre-CU SWG and I loved it. I am most definately going to play SWTOR.
To the fella stating bioware doesn't want swg fans anywhere near TOR... That has to be the most illiterate, moronic, super dumb dumb dumbest statement I've ever heard. lol... Almost as silly as the previous sentence I wrote...
Those who played SWG were obviously fans of star wars, correct? Why would Bioware deliberately want to keep star wars fans far away from their new game, TOR??? That ridiculous type of thinking doesn't make any sense at all... You don't make sense, and your life probably doesn't make sense to the one that created you... Baaaaaaam!!! lol

Its been almost a decade. How could MMORPGs still not have progressed past SWG?! They are moving backwards I THINK!!
I fear development is being focused on simpler, 'casual' games (which allows for a broader audience) with in-game cash grabs much more than true gaming innovation. The big money in virtual items via cash shops has led to many of the games we see flooding the market today.
Original SWG was one of the most entertainign MMOs ever made. No other MMO ever managed to implement such an indept crafting sistem, free player economy that was meaningfull and very competitive, very fun housing sistem with enourmous amount of possibilites including player cities. No other MMO ever offered so many professions that were all equally appealing and fun to play with complete freedom on which and how many to focus on. Space with many different types of ships that could be customized in a countless number of ways, huge planets and no linear gameplay whatsoever. Community was the best comparing to any other MMO I played ever since.
Yet somehow it gets no credit for any of these unique elements and is labeled as a bad MMO beacuse of a lack of balance in combat professions and bugs that developers never attempted to correct. You can say SOE did a bad job but is in unfair to say pre-CU SWG was a bad game.
And why is sandbox reffered as a bad thing? Because, as opposed to themepark MMOs they don't have quest content? SWG I bought had a lot of quests, it just needed more over time and devs didn't give a **** about it.
Sandbox is what makes game a great MMO because a set of predefined guided storyline quests is NOT what makes a self running persistent world in MMO. I never played GW1 because I heard it was too linear and heavily instanced but I am glad to hear that devs seem to understand this and are trying to creat more sandbox world in GW2. As they say, you never know whats waiting for you behind that hill no matter how many times you've been there and that is exactly what I expect from any MMO game. Too bad it is not SW IP but if they don't screw it up until release I know where I'm spending my next $50.
Pre-CU SWG is still the one game I'd go back to in a heartbeat...

Me too. I'm older now and can afford a buck or two so - right now - I'd be prepared to spent $100 a month just to play my Doc/Swordsman again zipping around Yavin IV killing Mereks and kiting the Dark Jedi Sentinels near the Enclave.
I miss the community of SWG Pre-CU the most. Never have I been able to immerse myself more. I hope some game will come along, and soon, that will give me that feeling again.
