Reading a number of posts in and out of this forum I cannot help but notice how scared the fanboys of WoW are at the upcoming launch of SW:TOR. I will give you people credit where credit is due. You were able to make the World of Warcraft the number one subscription based game around the world. No doubt about it. If Smedly hadn't screwed up SW:Galaxies since its launch I doubt that you would own the number one position by yourself for the last few years. In the limited amount of time you have in 2010 go ahead and do your best to overplay your hand. I cannot wait till the launch of SW:TOR next year. Galaxies veterans will leave WoW dropping its servers to low population status. Not that a number of their servers do not already say low 24/7. The nail on the coffin will be a few years after that when WoW has to start eliminating low servers due to those low populations. The World of Warcraft will be relegated to second class status and will never be heard of again in the popular culture. The popularity of the Clone Wars cartoon is proof that millions of people are still drawn to the Star Wars lore. See you on the dark side in Spring 2011 fanboys.

I am not a fanboy of any MMO, in fact I think they all suck right now, but people need to stop say that SWTOR is going to be the best MMO ever because they have released a few videos and articles and you like what you see. Bioware has a great track record with RPG games but MMO are a completely different beast whether or not thier experiance can translate over to an MMO remains to be seen.
Right this post made me come out of lurking this site for over 2 years. I am just as excited about TOR as the next Star Wars fan and I love Bioware to bits. However do you not think you are overplaying YOUR hand here by making assumptions
1. That WoW players are scared of TOR in particular
2. That population on Wow consists majorly of SWG disillusioned vets
3. Performance of TOR when it is release.
And finally what is the point of this thread? Tht Wow will sabotage TOR? There might be an insidious consipiracy going on to DDOS servers? Your post is just a lot of hot air and very little substance.
Posts like these give a bad impression of the to be community for any upcoming MMO and play a role in putting people off games. Just relax and wait for the game to be released.
Oh and I could not resist "May the Force be With You" XD
Nah, those WOW fanbois are in the TOR forums trying to push thier pro-WOW game design on everyone which has irritated a lot of forum posters over there. With threads like WOW+TOR=WIN you could see why posters over there would rather the WOW fanbois crawl back under their rocks and go back to the WOW forums.
i can care less about anything or anyone that has to do with wow, they can do whatever they want. I plan on playing both STO and SWTOR.
I'm looking forward to SWTOR. However everything you wrote sounds about as idiotic as the wow fanboys you chastise. Hinting that SWG could own the #1 spot for sub based games? Really? Don't get me wrong, Id rather play the old SWG, but theamount of SWG vets actually in WoW probably don't even add up to 1%. Screw what anyone else says about the game, you only bring down SWTOR with this rabble.
LOL
This is a pure bait thread.
SW:TOR will do good, however you over state you postion very much. #1 You or no one is a seer and can predict the future. #2 WoW will never fail, its way to popular and no MMO can ever come close except for a new Blizzard MMO. #3 SWG was very modest at best, no one person killed the game, all I hear is SWG:NG and it leads me to believe its all hyperbole, as I know not 1 person in my WoW guild who played it.
Notne you haters understand what makes WoW good. High fantasy, socially acceptable, FUN, entertaining, casual friendly, ease of access, SOLID game play/graphics/UI/system.
I never played SWG and I prolly wont play SW:TOR cause as much as I love the star wars universe, I think non fantasy games have no depth. Fantasy or bust!
lol, scared? You srious? I can see legions of WoW fans standing and trembling screaming "Look out it's SW and it's coming right for us!" Anyone who is scared or so fanatical about any game , WoW or SW, is pathetic. They're just games.
The only thing that scares me about SW:TOR is that it might suck and just further scare companies away from making serious investments into the genre.
If the game is anything above that I will be happy. Just the possibility of another decent mmo to play tickles my inner nerd.
Really wish people would stop building up games that have not released yet to be the next coming of the almighty. I don't need another game to die just to make a new one enjoyable or validate a choice.
I can't wait to play SWTOR. I also loved and played the hell out of swg. I played wow for a long time also. No matter what happens with wow's population it will alway's have it's spot in the history of mmo's. If you put all the cash blizzard has made end to end it would circle the universe 7 times.
That is an irrelevant answer as the universe is always expanding. LOL the world maybe
The truth is out there SOMEWHERE ?
Actually a good majority from what i can tell is really looking forward to SW TOR. Not sure why they would be scared considering most mmo players are willing to pay for more than one game at a time. As a WoW fanboy myself i can't wait for this game. Though bioware is easily my favorite game producer.
OP..
I'll admit, I'm going to keep my eye on TOR,, but unfortunately I don't believe it will be a great MMORPG simply because based on how the game is being designed... Don't get me wrong, I am hoping TOR will become what SWG failed to be.. UNfortunately, based on the official feedback, videos, and overview of the game, it looks to be nothing more than a glorified platform RPG with "some" mmorpg elements thrown in...
The game is story driven which I love, BUT the story is based on you and your own characters actions instead of what a true sandbox MMORPG's story revolves around, which is a end game massive player raid storyline like WoW, EQ, DAOC, etc...
I'm predicting millions of people "INCLUDING MYSELF" will indeed rush to get their hands on TOR when released, but most of us will rush through the small amount of story content in a matter of weeks.. The game just doesn't sound like it will be a true "Massive multiplayer" game that will provide the consumer with hundreds of non stop awesome content and difficult challenges...
Based on the videos I saw, "which made me cringe and frown" it doesn't sound to me that Bioware understands what it takes to create a massive sandbox mmorpg... They definitely have the RPG aspect down rock solid as TOR does sound promising and awesome for a single player with multiplayer option rpg.. But give it a month or two and most of the people who left WoW will probably find their way back,,,, myself excluded of course.. I quit WoW years ago and never plan on returning...
Although, I hope to God I'm wrong and TOR becomes a legendary MMORPG masterpiece for years to come.. But so far I don't like what I'm seeing in TOR that shows me this game will keep people around for years.. It's just not one of those mmorpg's...,,,,,, Unfortunately..

Nerd...
Why would Galaxies veterans be playing World of Warcraft? Galaxies veterans are angry because their game was changed into a poor rip off of WOW. If anything, they haven't even come near WOW. I'd guess veterans of SWG went to games more in line with LOTRO, Darkfall, or Fallen Earth if they are even playing at all.
Currently Playing: World of Warcraft
Didn't we see threads just like this prior to the release of...
WAR
LOTRO
Aion
Vanguard
<<<----- insert any MMO here launched after December 2004
All these games smashed WoW.. oh wait.. no no they didn't.
In seriousness I dont see SWTOR to be anything more but ME in a bigger world.. which may or may not be a bad thing.. time will tell I guess.
So basically, what we have here is one fanboy talking smack about other fanboys...

What i really don't understand is, why WoW should be killed? If it's the only the great and so on, is it bad that we have at least something in MMO market worth attention? I many times dropped wow, and many times returned, just because there is nothing else (there is but not for me at least). Yes I like wow, and yes i will go to TOR when it launches, and yes I will go back if it sucks. And no I'm not scared of TOR, nor someone should be. WoW lived long enough with such high ammount of subscribtions. That even if TOR will lure portion of people from it, there will be enough left to continue to develop game, and it wont be killed anyway. Unless you think that above 1 mil subscribers is killed game. On other hand, if TOR succeeds, we will have at least two games worth attention and both will do their best to get people from one another. And that may lead to only one thing - improvement of both games. So to make it short: wow won't be killed and it shouldn't be, for sake of healthy mmo market.
Two cents out.
Your 10th post here and a excellent one IMO!

When I left galaxies back in 05' we formed a guild of about 200+ off our server. We moved from game to game for a couple years, first it was WOW, then some went to lotro and some went to AOC, eventually most just gave up and hung up their MMO gear. We could never find that game that we all could play and enjoy ourselves. Out of 200 peeps I'm the only one I know of thats still playing MMO's regularly.

So do Blizzard incomes, by minimum 165 million each month (when they don't release ponys).

Just playing devil's advocate here, but the same could have been said about Blizzard less than 6 years ago. Blizzard knew strategy games, and RPGs, but WoW was their first MMO. So never under estimate a company with a large following, and indeed Bioware has that, just like Blizzard did. Then you also have to add the fans of SWG and the SW IP to that. If they do it RIGHT....I think it has a fine chance of being able to be "the next big thing." Only time will tell, but....we probably shouldn't under estimate their potential.
