What the coming patch means

alderdalealderdale Member Posts: 301

What I take away from this is that the beta content is done.  Everything else coming is being saved for "launch" hint hint buy the game and trust us that everything has been fixed.  This is their miracle patch and they have to use it to suck in as many paying players as possible.   I actually hope this patch does it, the game is in pretty sad shape right now and the pre-order people deserve better than what they have gotten so far.

Why would it be miracle patch this time, when all their miracle patches before failed miserably?

This is the last shot for them to scam more money from people. Oh well there always will be naive souls that will hope they gonna make it with next patch... Maybe even many enough to keep this game afloat... I wouldnt throw my money away, but with your money, you can do whatever you like.

    @OP:

No offense intended, but this reads very much like a troll post.  Since you say you actually hope this patch does it, I presume that was not your intent.

"Miracle patch" is sometimes used to set unrealistic expectations in order to badmouth the devs when those expectations are not met.  "Suck in"implies that they are trying to take advantage of people.

The upcoming patch does imply that they are approaching the end of the content that will be seen in beta. It is a good time for people to take a look at the open beta and decide if they want to buy it.

Not everyone who posts a poor opinion of StarVault is a troll.  It sounds to me like he is simply someone who pre-ordered the game and has been very disappointed in what he has seen so far.

@OP: Don't let folks scare you off or make you feel wrong for posting your opinions.  That's what this board is all about after all.  Some people lose sight of that from time to time.

They have been patching this thing for almost a year and it still is not up to par.  Not sure how drawing in epic game is all of a sudden gonna fix everything.  I would think a whole new build would bring with it new problems and not be a magic cure all for the old.

Unfortunately, this.  I know at my job  when I have a significantly large patch...it usually means introduction of new bugs no matter how much the initial internal testing tries to catch.

Can someone link me to the post that the devs says "miracle" patch?

If it's not broken, you are not innovating.

I am still waiting to hear from all of the whiners who said that the OB would only last 2 weeks.  I think that was almost 2 months ago.

Ayone care to come on here and post you were wrong?  There are problems and they seem to be painfully aware there are issues.  Can you at least give them the benefit of this?

I can see pointing out some unfair practices and there were some that rubbed people wrong.    In these cases let your voice be heard.  But, if you do not give at least SOME credit to the company when they try to do better your opinion becomes less weighted and you are perceived as a hate monger.

Say hello, To the things you've left behind. They are more a part of your life now that you can't touch them.

There is no such thing! ;o)

It is only used by some here to bad mouth the devs all along!

What I expect though, is a patch with the latest Atlas and UE build, and because of this hopefully the only "game breaker" is gone - the desync! If this is gone, it is going to rock my world!

If you want more sandbox fantasy sims and you don't like this one, criticizing it will only discourage from making one that you like more.

Perhaps you sheep are too dumb to see it, you just join the herd of the trolls cause it's a funny orgy.

Having said that, i enjoy MO very much only because its a simulation and doesn't tell me what to do all the time. Some professions are missing, some lack depth. I'm sure when people complain, all they have in their heads is the critters flashing about the field. How can they base their judgement on such a superficial thing that will be fixed in the blink of an eye?

You should go troll the WoW-clones with their carbon-copy user-friendly content. Instead you're criticizing one thing that's all alone in the scenario and it's an INDIE product and(if prospers) can be only be HEALTHY for all MMO gaming. In a word you're complete knuckleheads.

IMHO the worst thing that can happen to the MMO community is for an incomplete shovelware game like Mortal Online to find a foothold.  Companies must learn that we will not accept less and less and that their business plan must actually include things like finishing a game before charging people.  Over time more and more companies are trying to outdo the previous launches by being even less complete.  Note that we aren't talking about complete as in never needing to add more content.  We are talking complete as in... well.. having the features from the FEATURES tab actually in game.   To start...

Having said that... you are welcome to your own opinion on the matter.  Vote with your dollars.  That's one of the wonders of the free-market economy.   If enough people feel like you do and give the company money.. it will survive.  If not.. it will fail.

The term "Miracle Patch" brings back bitter memories from HZ.

Personally, and this is my humble opinion, MO and HZ are joined at the hip as far as... well everything. ie, lag, content, overly optimistic fan base, and sunshiny dev team.

Like I said, this is my opinion. Your mileage may vary ;)

lol we are more heavily moderated now and can be banned for calling people trolls, even when they obviously are, so people now indirectly do it by insinuating it in this way.

Maybe, if you truly consider the language inflamatory, report it as so to a Mod and let them decide? That way it dosent look so much like snide mud slinging.

But I agree with Slapshot here, there is a huge and obvious difference bwteen a troll and someone expressing a view you might not agree with. The OP's point is valid, if you are not over sensitive and remain objective.

It's a pretty well established pattern that when people are referring to "miracle patch" they are often setting up unrealistic expectations or criticizing the devs for failing to meet those expectations. Nothing that the OP said explicitly violates the rules of conduct. If the OP intentionally used such terms to get people upset, that would violate the ROC.  That is not the expressed intent of the OP and unless proven otherwise I will take the OP at his/her word regarding intent.

     Thanks!

It's a shame but sometimes people can be very intolerant of a differing point of view.  I think it's important that we not instantly label people (even in a roundabout way) for simply expressing their opinion.  We can disagree on that opinion and then address the issue in a response, but theres no need for name-calling or belittling the person(s) behind the opinions.

Restating the OP in more neutral terms:

The upcoming patch does imply that they are approaching the end of the content that will be seen in beta. Most of the other content discussed will not come until after launch and the developers think they have addressed most of the critical issues in the game.  If things have gone well with the collaboration with Epic this patch should address the desynch issue which is the single biggest issue (i.e. this is the "miracle patch") The developers would like to use the later stages of beta to showcase the game and bring in as many subscribers as possible.  I hope this patch works  well, since Mortal still has major issues that need to be addressed before release and those who have ordered the game deserve a truly finished product at launch.

    @ vesavius and slapshot:

Please point out specifically where I have been "very intolerant of a [the OP's] differing point of view".  I only meant to point out the use of buzz words that may give an unintended effect.

Great.. except you mis-attributed the second link to rlmccoy when it was someone else.  Linking 4 threads by 3 different people from 2 months ago about the original Miracle Patch is really irrelevant here.

Anytime a developer promises a massive patch that is supposed to fix  the major issues with a game right before release... these patches are commonly referred to as "Miracle" patches.  These usually happen just before a stated release date.  A developer can call it anything they want.  A rose by any other name...
