For some reason Avatar doesn't strike me as a good IP for a MMO.

IMO for it to work it must be a mix of sandbox and themepark sort of bethsedia games.

Their games don't have a long storyline if you aim to do that only but if you want you can wander in the wild to find hidden treasures side quests, ecc, ecc

From a game that could last you less then a week it could last you a month if you enjoyed wandering in the wild searching for stuff like I did in fallout 3.

But really if they do it I hope they ask some opinions on the idea of how the game would be to james cameron maybe he could help them making it less linear. They could make stuff that haven't been seen in the movie excluding the path to become a warrior of the navi, there were many other tribes and who knows if there were other type of monsters even under water creatures.

They could take some ideas from AvP for the movement on the trees I haven't played t yet but from the trailers and gameplay videos I saw it was nice and fluid jumping from tree to tree.

Building a town on trees and forming a tribe (guild) that also could fit well into the game if it had a big world.

There's so many things they could add if they research on indian tribes and such but the thing is if they want to do it like that.

    [Edit]

One problem I find atm is since navi didn't have much weaponry how would they find a solution unless they would do it more skill based then gear based.

We caught up with Landau at the recent 3D Gaming Summit in Los Angeles, and asked about the possibility of an online Avatar, Here's what he said:

"We've already been asked if we'd consider doing an Avatar MMO, and it's something we'd want to do; something we'd be very interested in doing, but we'd have to do it right," Landau said. "I think today, entertainment goes beyond any one medium, as we look to make a persistent world out of Avatar. we'll look to gaming, we'll look to publishing, we'll look to other opportunities in order to do that."

Interested in sitting on a military base fighting foot fungi?

...while 10 million "Avatars" (rare and expensive) run around the forest hunting and gathering?

It'll need a sequel if the war is going to last more than a week. Was there a sequel to Pocahontas that I missed?

    (couldn't resist)

Oh yeah, expect more than a few people that miss the big picture in your thread, they seem to be quite vocal. Make no mistake though, they are really just tree hugging fools, and they always have to drop their 2 cents in whenever they get the chance. You'll see... they are so ugly that they are cute ;)

    Hey look, there's one now!

Well why didn't you reply to post #15 rather than this one? No one ever does, it's just not possible. "I want Avatar mmo!!!" but it's like no one ever really thinks it through... it's always a "just because" argument.

M59, UO, EQ1, WWIIOL, PS, EnB, SL, SWG. MoM, EQ2, AO, SB, CoH, LOTRO, WoW, DDO+ f2p's, Demo’s & indie alpha's.

Honestly, I think that would be such a cool idea. But then again, I loved Avatar. There are always going to be haters out there, but i think you'd definately get a game wit AOC graphics and the work and dedication people have been waiting in an MMORPG for awhile now. I doubt they would slack on it. I'll definately keep my ears open for any news.

[size=8]PLAYED: TSO, SWG, WOW, EQ2, Vanguard, FFXII, AOC, AION, Guild Wars, Second Life

    Waiting: SWTOR, FFXIV

I dont really understand how the movie did so well. It used the technology that the guys at Heavenly Sword used to create the cutscenses and hyped that up a bajillion times and through a known directors name on the title. Then continue to build the hype train. It seems to me people got brainwashed into thinking the movie was great before even seeing it ( Much like how EA does with Madden even though year after year the game is terrible ).

We had indians , a world tree err great tree , wisps err I mean pure spirits , mechs and a good bit of overacting.

I hope they do release an MMO .. I would get to see it be a massive failure just like the movie should have been.

Is that the guy who made the single player Avatar game?

It was rubbish and now he thinks that he can make the Avatar MMORPG?

    Hilarious...    just hilarious.

The amount of hacks working in the gaming business is just staggering.

All those memories will be lost in time, like tears in the rain.

    XD

Ten years from now you won't even hear about this movie franchise except for on VH1 on that show where they mock what was popular for the year in discussion.

    1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.

    2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.

    3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.

From an fx standpoint it was incredible.

From a storyline standpoint it was about as forgettable as you can get.  What little story there was.  Should be interesting to see them try and make a trilogy out of this if nothing else.

If such a mmorpg was made, then it would fail in no time.  Avatar as movie is fine, but it has little story behind it.  There are also limited number of things people can do in a MMORPG setting.  So how long do you think people would repeat the same task sbefore quitting the game?  It is way too one dimensional for MMO that is usually last more than a few days...  To create a stand alone multi player game, it might work.  To create a MMO, it would be a waste of money.  Should use that money to make Avatar 2 instead.  Not every IP can be turned into MMO to be honest.

Not the best, but always the first.

Story would be least of the reasons It may or may not fail. Story can be made which is part of the reason alot of mmo's fail ... they stick too much to a story or lore instead of jtweaking a story line to make a game fun. And your definition of failure would probably still make it a good game with decent subs.
