Is the memory leak back?

JackdogJackdog Member UncommonPosts: 6,321

Just was over at the official US tech  forums and see quite a few crash and burn threads

http://forums.ageofconan.com/forumdisplay.php?f=28

I thought someone had posted that they had fixed this but I guess not. Anyone here having this issue, or having to restart the game occasionally to clear the memory?

I miss DAoC

Seems to be back, whenever I try to enter khitai I get to play a few minutes then CTD with a out of memory error.

Expansion looks good, but atm its unplayable :/

what is your OS? i never had problem with 64bit. expansion included.

new zones when loaded for the first time made me wait for a couple of mins other than that only occasional lag spikes.

    I need more vespene gas.

Win7 32 bit, I think the problem will be solved by changing OS. However it is not really the best solution to have to format and change the OS tho :/

I play on Win XP 32Bit and have no problems.

yes, changing OS just for a game is not feasible sometimes, but if you already have the hardware, its logical to get software also, there isnt much no-driver issues nowadays. I think what is happening is conan is always leaking, 64 bit has a way to prevent it going nuts, 32 not.

Win7 64bit here and I have not had any problems other then the occasional gank =)

    Current: BDO

Win 7 64bit here as well and no problems. In fact it seems to be a more stable client than before expansion. I don't stutter as much. Only crashed once doing a lot of Alt-tabbing.

Played for about 3-4 hours last night with no crashes.

ramped a new character up through Tortage and  went to new zone. Played from 19th to 22nd there without even a hiccup before logging off for the night. I am running vista 32bit on both machines I play on an neither has had any issues at all. The new starting zone for Khitai is BIG too so I expected some stutters (as I have the setting maxed out on my lap top) or something but not at all.

Jackdog- are you considering returning to the game or are you just poking holes at it?

most game dont react well with shadow, whatever the machine! you need a minimum of 1.5mb/sec(advertised)upload speed

to have decent speed lower then that?hope that the game maker is abusing of (ms)remote differiential compression(dont forget to activate it )

trying to convince myself that I want to give it another shot, considering a return this fall. Did the beta last Sunday and love the visuals but rest of the game still did not impress me much. I was thinking if I could find a good mature small guild I might feel different. Other hobbies at the moment are consuming more time and oney than I want to think about though.

Anyhow had not seen much here on crashes and freezing yet the official forums seem to be peppered with threads on them. Wondered why.

Win 7 64-bit no issues either. Sometimes people forget the very firest time in a zone it takes a while to load up. If you start running around off the bad and have a shit PC it might crap out depending on the setting you have in game.

Mem usage of 6gb is 23% whilst traversing new areas for an hour it will go up to 35-40%. Log out, back in same new area now 23%.

Yep, I had the same problem when I tried the beta last weekend.

The expansion was unplayable for me, freezing for 10+ seconds when moving or turning the camera. (the game had been working great for me since launch with all of the settings maxed out).

That's a memory leak, is it not? With 6g you won't experience a crash, 2g is a different story though. A game should free up memory when new things load, otherwise people crash with an OOM error.

In a way yes, but If I revisit that same are no matter how much time spend there it won't ever go as high. I am putting it down to first time/zone loading. After that very first time all seems ok so far.

EDIT: No doubt some are experiencing issues, there is a performance updated penned in for next week :)

"The production team are now focusing on the expansion feedback. The first priority is to improve the performance for those users who are experiencing some issues in the new playfields. We are preparing an update for next week to address some of these concerns and it is something that we will continue to monitor and improve as we move along."

Not having any problems personally, but plenty of people are. I'd give it a couple weeks to smooth out....ROTGS is a big chunk of code, and there's bound to be little issues here and there.

Thanks Avery and Whargoul, this is some good news.

I had 2 crashes, but they are not the same as last time. Before I bluescreened, now the game just gets stuck and stop working but Windows is fine.

It is not a really big deal, 2 times in 30 hours maybe but still annoying. But it is no big surprise, I seen quite a few games that gotten unstable for a while after a expansion.

  • AzelSpearsAzelSpears Member Posts: 39

Prior to the expansion, I could play on top settings perfectly smoothly.  After the expansion, unplayable, hard freezes during patcher, during gameplay, etc, and I haven't even gone into the new territories yet.  Expansion completely broke the game for me.

Nice that's when i'll be back in game and in my new place, so that's good news for me. I wasn't saying that in a way to say they've failed or some other trolllish nonsense, just that I hope they get that fixed before it gives to much ammunition to those who would.
