AV Introduces Free 14 Day Trial

zaffazaffa Member Posts: 81

Today we’re launching Darkfall’s first free trial offer. You can try Darkfall for 14 days for free without obligation.

After our experience with the 1 euro/dollar trial and after several further improvements we feel that we’re ready to offer a free trial which won’t disrupt the current user experience and will help with making the game available to a larger playerbase and getting new players into the game.

There is ample capacity to handle the trial, but we will throttle availability as needed. We’ve also placed a per country quota on Asian accounts as these are the European and North American servers and the players from these regions should have priority. The free trial offer is limited to one trial per computer.

Following are the instructions to access the free trial:

To maximize your playing time, we recommend, due to the large download, that you download the Darkfall Client BEFORE setting up your trial account.

For the European servers:

Client link: http://www.eu1.darkfallonline.com/dl/DarkfallFull/

For the North American servers:

Client link: http://www.us1.darkfallonline.com/dl/DarkfallFull/

After the client is downloaded and installed you can set up your free trial account at the appropriate Account Management website.

For a trial on the European servers:

https://accounts.eu.darkfallonline.c...ster-intro.php

For a trial on the North American servers:

https://accounts.us.darkfallonline.c...ster-intro.php

You simply have to select your country, choose the 14-day Free Trial product, fill out the rest of your account information by following the simple steps and your Trial Account will be ready to play.

I fully expect 8/10 people that try the game to not buy a subscription at the end of the 14 days.

Mainly due to (FFA loot,no hand holding, sandbox, grind)

But the people that stick with the game will find a very fun experience that gets better everyday. It is no secret that the game is pretty low on population and this fact really makes the game world seem empty.. because its so big with not enough players to full up the awesome player cities/hamlets, and npc cities. Not having the game on Steam, instores for sale are obviously 2 huge reasons for the low population. Also not having any kind of   trial for 9months or so after release pissed off some players who would maybe of liked to try out the game before shelling out 60dollars for it.

This game is very similar to Ultima Online (1997-1999) And Asheron's call (darktide server)  With a mix of shadowbane thrown into it (siege warefare is freaking awesome, plus ship combat, mount fighting, water fighting,)

i'm looking forward to reading reviews from the new 14day trial players (good and bad)

This game is only similar to UO because they are both sandboxes.  The systems in place in these games are actually quite different.  If DF worked on emulating what UO had, it could only benefit the game.  Minus trammel of'course.

As long as they don't close this trial down, it might help a little.

This is great news! Now people can try the game and decide forthemselves whether DF is their cup of tea or not. Even better, they are limiting Asian IPs... I would just block them alltogether to prevent massive bot influx... because it will happen.

I am the type of player where I like to do everything and anything from time to time.

I quite like DF and have been playing it for a few months now, it is good but has many flaws. The forums are improving, at one time it was literally impossible to discuss anything negative because threads were eaten alive by fan-trolls. Its still a bit hairy but most of the trolls have gone which is nice.

Sometimes the devs come out with solutions to problems which make you facepalm, occasionally they go against a good sound solution to a problem almost it seems like 'wow does it that way so we dont' the chat still desperatly needs working on, and on the whole the interface causes a lot of lag and takes a while to get used to..

BUT my god, seriously one of the most fun games going. EU/US who cares give it a blast, but do try and bring friends, it is so so much more fun playing with a bunch of RL mates and it gives you a bunch more options earlier on. Honestly there are times of jaw dropping action, the sieges really can be intense (and much improved already) and they do promise work on the PVE side, which while there rate of work is slow, I do believe will come soon enough.

All in all, if you've been putting it off, give it a real honest try, haters are guna hate, but those who get into it will find a pretty great game that does deserve support.

Just don't, whatever you do, feed the trolls on the forums. If a thread get eaten just leave it, try to work out what you wrote that triggered it and hope it either gets lock/deleted or cleaned up and try again!

I would suggest to those who have been playing for about a year to try a new character now and see hwo different it is compared to when started..

The hurdle of Vet players pouncing on noobs that didn’t exist a year ago is why most players now lose interest quickly I think more so than the grind which also can weigh heavily upon  their decision as well.

I joined the game 4 months ago, play an average of 20 or so hours each week grinding, no afk anything for me, and still find myself way behind the eight ball in this game..

I am optimistic about improvements that may come later this year not only with graphics but maybe some game play fixes as well to help balance the game out some.

As for  me, I love the game I love the concept of the game,, but hate that everyone has to be a hybrid caster because of the magic imbalance versus melee or archery, and PvP is so difficult for newer players to get to a point to even have any hope of being competitive.

I am coming up on renewal and am trying to decide should I or should I just wait until this big 2010 update comes and see what that brings with it.

Again though as someone said previously I believe this to be a great opportunity for players who have not tried this game to see what its about first hand, and as I said maybe some of the vets to give it a try with a new char as well. I think maybe your voices in the ears of the developers may encourage them that some of the changes being asked for should be considered for the longevity of the game after you re-experience the game as a noob.

    Just my thoughts.

Finally a trial for gamers to try out! For those considering tying it, keep in mind that 14 days is no where near enough time to experience the best DFO has to offer. I've been playing 6+ months and have probly only explored 30-40% of the map. On most nights I find myself sitting in our city picking between 6-7 different things I could be doing. DFO is like no other MMO out there imo and if AV keeps updating it, it will only get better.

(I'm soooo going to get flamed for this but here goes)

I have to say that I don't think this trial is a good idea.

At least not yet. To me it's as if Aventurine is insecure about it's own product, especially when the June Patch should hit very soon. Depending on when the June Patch hits, this Free Trial might hurt them more than it would help them. Look at it this way, currently not many players are happy with the way DarkFall is, far too many have left. Free Trial is released, players can try the same game that has disappointed so many other players. Chances are that by the time the June Patch hits, most player's Free Trial has either A: Ended, B: About to end. In both case, it leaves very little room for players to try and see if the June Patch has actually fixed anything without actually buying the game.

From a logical point of view, it would be in DarkFall's best interest to release this Free Trial AFTER the June Patch. But this is not the case, which leaves me to believe that Aventurine is not entirely confident of their product and/or starting to run low on money, as such, hoping that players will do exactly what I said in my previous paragraph: Buy the game to see if the June Patch actually made the game better because they ran out of Free Trial time to test it.

I guess only time will tell.

You may be right about the June patch. Perhaps they should have held off on the trial but by the looks of it the patch will not really be ground-breaking.

DarkFall 2010 on the other hand......... :)

Agreed cause the people including myself who still play Darkfall fucking love it.

You wouldn't be playing if you hated it right?

Fact remains that DarkFall new player retention rate is small and Vets are indeed leaving the game. A quick glance at ForumFall is enough to tell. Many Veterans are getting bored, it's a fact. Perhaps you are not bored yet and you are enjoying DarkFall and I hope you will keep on having fun, but this doesn't change the fact that many players have left and continue to leave.

Though sure with the trial there will be an increase in the population but for how long. It depends on the June Patch.

I agree they should have waited until after the update.

I think they need to have way more updates then they do.  The first MMO I played (Asheron's Call) had monthly content updates (plus fixes and balancing) for $9.99/mo.

How am I getting less for more?

Why can't other MMO's do monthly udpates?

It really kept everyone playing the game because every month there was something NEW to do.

Recently i read a thread in forumfall, which described what you say pretty well.

Ignore the guy who tells SV is 1000 professional then AV. They simply both suck if you compare them to other companys.

Well the trial worked on me. I started playing with the trial offer and have enjoyed it more than any of the other games I have tried over the last few years, everything else just seemed like a WoW clone - and I didnt even like wow that much because everything is done for you - soon they will have a 'do quest' button to save you having to following the minimap guides etc.

This game is the first game in a while to grab my attention, just like old UO did and Dark Age of Camelot did after that. No auto loot, no quest guides, you have to do stuff yourself - makes a change.

If you are thinking of trying it certainly do, just keep an open mind, this is not like the swathe of other mmorpgs out there at the moment, theres no rush to level up skills, just do what you feel like and have fun. Yes you may get ganked and lose stuff, but it doesnt matter - equipment is not the be all and end all, if you lose some its easy to get replacements. This may change later on but by then you will be able to fight well enough not to be easily ganked. Its just as it was in UO.

    Enjoy :)
