MAJOR UPDATE: Game Price Dropped and Game Coming to Retailers and Online Shops

zaffazaffa Member Posts: 81

http://forums.darkfallonline.com/showthread.php?p=4323904#post4323904

From the billing department:

Darkfall's pricing has been reduced to 29,95 Euro / US Dollars on the European and North American servers respectively.

This price reduction is part of the preparations for Darkfall's inclusion in online shops and retail outlets.

The 29,95 pricing includes VAT which our company has decided to absorb in the case of EU players.

AV has finally seen the light.

Substanitally increasing the games exposure with more attractive price tag should definitely help.

A giant burst into population would be lovely, and even opening up more servers, like 1 on the East of US, 1 in austraila(lol?), 1 for the asianers.

But it be nice, like with an addition of like a few dollars, we could have 2 characters, but not on same server, that way we can find pvp all around, and we can pvp against other people,

Like I want a eastcoast server, because some Euros could play and people from other parts of the US could play, and I would like to play on East and West for the action +.

These are pipe dreams, but make no mistake about it, someone with 30 ping vs someone with 90-110 ping, is a big different in a FPS combat game.

Good news for DFO fans and should bring some new blood (er literally) to the fold.

Also will bring some folks who will be quite surprised at what they find in terms of game mechanics, expect to see some tears.

great news, Aventurine has dampened some of its investment :)

Well there have been boxed copies on store shelves in Greece for a while now, this is just the next step, and with an expansion due out sometime this month, or next, followed by the Winter expansion, the new motion cap studio, the new devs they've hired, the larger building, anyone who tries to say Darkfall isn't doing well is a proved former vapor troll methinks.

Fuck yea! I was waiting for a good deal to upgrade my trial :-).

    Made my day!

DF has been out over a year and it costs $36.60 US dollars now?  And this after a price reduction?  Everyone in this thread is calling it good news and a great deal but I can't think of any MMORPG that has been out for over a year that costs more than $30.00 bucks.   I also wonder if their price reduction, which coincides with the Mortal Online release, is a coincidence.

I'm not dissing the game, but I think Indie developers should stop charging AAA developer prices--and in the case of DF and MO, well in excess of AAA developer release pricing.

  • PremPrem Member Posts: 20

lol didn't expect this, but I guess it makes lot of sense. It is near the end of the initial free 14-day trials + Important patch coming this week + expansion in Q4.. Looks like it's going to be a very interesting year for this game.

Why? They worked just as hard, if not harder to make the game, and the games they produce are usually better quality. I would gladly pay 50 bucks for Darkfall, but I wouldn't even pay 15 for yet another AAA WoW clone.

Yellow text above.   Are you serious?

    Aventurine = DarkFall

    Star Vault = Mortal Online

RedBedlam = Roma Victor (at least they charged $29.95 for a lifetime sub)

    All Indie developers.

The things they have in common are an overall lack of quality, slow to update, features implemented that don't work properly.  Not only upon release (sure every MMORPG has release issues), but months, and even over a year after release, if the game survives that long.   Maybe in your dreams, and in my dreams too, there will come along an Indie developer who does release a truly quality game.  It hasn't happened yet.  I'm still waiting.

Nice price reduction for the client. Personally I do (and you should too) the 6 month sub special image

Great, more dusty boxes on store shelves that have to be pushed aside to find the good games.

because even if someone hasn't heard of the game yet, they must already be playing it?

This game is a dead failure on it's last legs. The world is totally empty...

The reason they gave out the free trial and are now lowering prices and spamming it out everywhere is because they have no players anymore.

I'd be surprised if they have anymore than  4 thousand paying subs left. This game is miserable.

I mean seriously.. who the hell is going to play this when they can go play something like Guild Wars 2 eventually?

  • necredonnecredon Member Posts: 118

You shouldn't post about stuff you know nothing about.

Comparing GW to Darkfall is just fail.

  • necredonnecredon Member Posts: 118

Yes because every MMO attracts the same people right?

    Df looks great to btw.

And now i'm done feeding the troll.

  • Mr.LumpsMr.Lumps Member Posts: 136

maybe this will silence the ignorant argument that the game needs to change in order to attract customers

but i doubht it.  Whiners will always be trying to turn DF into WoW.

    currently playing: Darkfall, EVE, SC2

let's all go play Darkfall when we can play that for free. I mean Darkfall has full loot!   wooooooo

I'll gurantee you Darkfall hasn't even made the developer a penny in profit yet.. and never will anymore.

It's a failure in every aspect of the word...  from it's outdated graphics to it's non existent polish.... to it's non existent content... to it's non extistent player base......  to it's 4 developers left working on it......

give it up... time to move on to green pastures.

First of all, GW2 is nowhere near release, and you can't judge gameplay from some visual display video's and text. GW2 seems like a decent game (I'll most likely get it myself) and the developer, Arenanet, are not newcomers to the industry. That said, GW2 isn't really any competition to P2P MMO's, because GW2 has no monthly fee. Most people do not play more than 1 MMO because paying 2 subs is a little too much, but this makes GW2 a perfect side-game (or the other way around) that most likely will not 'steal' many subs from most P2P MMO's.

As for Darkfall being a failure, I disagree. While it certainly didn't live up to the wild imaginations people started to build in the years before its release, it IS a solid game and it does very good in the field it was supposed to deliver: PvP

The graphics are far from bad at launch, and they have been improving them as time went by, most noticably would be spell graphics which apart from the most basic spells like Mana Missile, have been greatly improved over time.

You also can't compare Aventurine to all other game developers, who only develop games. Aventurine is a business that doesn't offer Darkfall as their only product. How do you think they funded an 8 year development cycle? Certainly, not all from investors (if anything - but that is something only Aventurine knows). I wouldn't really see Darkfall going down under anytime soon.

But, only a fool would think Darkfall is perfect, and it is far from it. That's why I currently am on a 'break' from the game myself. But the upcomming patch is looking good, and the upcomming expansion and 'DF2010' will hopefully make it the game it was supposed to be.

I agree. Except for one thing, CCP is the only indie developer IMO that managed to pull out a quality product. It wasn't that quality quality product when they released Eve, but it got a lot more quality with the years. Even though I do not play the game (played it for 3-4 months in total), I can definitely say it is a quality game. I don't know any other indie-produced game that fits the same definition.

I am the type of player where I like to do everything and anything from time to time.
