USA coach, Bob Bradley, has harsh words for players who fake injuries in an attempt to get a free kick, and I agree with him.  It's probably the thing I dislike most about the game.  I would never ever fake an injury when I played because it makes you appear less intimidating in my mind.  I preferred to attack the ball after a duel with another player to let him know that his strike at my legs had no effect on me.

Players who writhe on the ground pretending to be in pain strike me as nothing more than sissys.  Now, if you're genuinely hurt, that's a different story.  But you can usually tell by the type of collision, whether or not the injury is serious.

This is probably the biggest thing that causes soccer to be such a huge failure in the United States. We like to see people get hurt and knocked down. We truly admire and aspire to be like the people who get back up. We want to see them continue on despite being knocked down. Flopping = Fail.

In fact they should have two really huge dudes on each teams bench and when someone is caught flopping the big guy gets to punch them right in their face, HARD!

In America I have bad teeth. If I lived in England my teeth would be perfect.

soccer won't catch on here because it's straight up boring. has there been a world cup game so far that has gone further  than a 2-2 score? i just turn on the last 5mins of a game because a college world series game is on next. since ASU has been defeated, i'm going for TCU. i hope they take it all the way.

athletes in other sports flop. there are two who come to mind as being the biggest floppers in sports. vlade divac and josh koscheck. vlade flopped like no other and managed to fool referees in almost all his attempts. in the MMA world, we have josh koscheck. that guy is such a little bitch. he fakes being poked in the eye so he can catch his breath. he's also faked contact after an illegal kneeing attempt by paul daley. paul daley's conduct after the match was over was definitely wrong and his punishment was a just one. koscheck should be docked more than 1 point each time he does that kind of shit.

You clearly have no idea what you are talking about...." soccer boring "

You ask an absurd question like " any games more than 2-2 "...come  on  you could have at least googled that instead of trolling a thread discussing the most popular sport in the world

    Portugal vs Korea 7-0

    Germany vs Australia 4-0

    To name a few ....

My advice is at least keep quiet and let people think you are an idiot than open your mouth and let people know you are one

fact of the matter is, it will NEVER catch on here in the united states. they tried pushing it real hard in the 70's and failed miserably. it's just as boring as nascar. sadly, though, nascar has a better following than soccer/futbol. there are more drunk rednecks than soccer fans in the united states. it's sad and a bit funny.

You're a moron for having an opinion that differs from that of a soccer fan.

Carry on being a moron...I'll be a moron with you.

Your argument is like a two legged dog with an eating disorder...weak and unbalanced.

Actually thats not why I said he is an idiot ...everyone is entitled to an opinion

He is an idiot because he made a statement about " any game go further than 2-2 " and this is part of his reason for   saying " soccer is boring "

Using your own opinion and pretending it is a fact is not a convincing argument.

Please do not derail this good thread like people did in the last one.  It is here to discuss the world cup not whether futbol is boring or a good sport, let's please try to keep it on topic.  If you can't I'll just call down some whoop arse from on high - got it!

Looks like Spain and Chile move on.   I was hoping the Swiss might somehow make it through after the game they had against spain.   Maybe next time.   ^_^

There is one way to combat that problem.. do what other sports do.. IF play has to be stopped because someone is pulling the "OMG I was murdered" on the ground rolling around holding their leg...... OK..  for your safety and well being.. YOU must come off the field to make sure it's nothing serious.. 4 minutes?

NOW lets see how many players fake injuries when they have to come off the field and sit on the bench.. (for their own safety) because they got tripped   :)

France quitting, USA arriving late, England left to fight Germany, sounds familiar..

I joke. Hope Ghana win today, would be good to see an African team in the Quarter Finals.

Yeah and it'll be cool with us Americans too, since none of us care either way.

Well it was fun while it lasted. The U.S. is out. On one hand I am sad to see our team go down. On the other hand at least I don't have to watch soccer again for four years. This sport will never ever be popular in America there is just way to much flopping and inane acting of being hurt. Truly ridiculous to watch grown men act this way.

Peace and Good Luck to the rest of the teams in it. I will be cheering for Germany from here on out.

Not really, it was a damn good game. We dominated the second half, just like we've dominated the second half in every game that we've played so far.

The final shot was nice, but partly our Def's fault. Even still, that was a damn good goal.

I'm not sure if you actually watched the game or not, but they got a few lucky blocks. One of the penalty kicks was perfect, but one of the Ghana guys accidently stepped the wrong way and blocked it. lol. If he hadn't accidently stepped there, the goalie was no where near it and the inside of his calf was the only thing between the ball and the goal. lol meh no use in crying over spilled milk though. But we def didn't get bitch slapped.

Fan for Fan, there are more soccer fans in the US than there are in England.

We also have 6 times the population though. lol

which team is the strongest?and most likely to win

  • ZindaihasZindaihas Member UncommonPosts: 3,662

Wow, England - Germany, what a first half!  These are my two favorite teams outside of the US.  I usually favor Germany slightly, but England are cheated out of a goal that would have tied the game.  In fairness, I couldn't really tell if it was goal when it happened at normal speed.  But on replay, it was clearly in.  If I were ref, I would have awarded the goal though, because I think it's the safer call to make.

Should be an exciting second half.  Best game of the tourney so far.

  • EvasiaEvasia Member Posts: 2,827

Lol england don't belong on worldchampionships they realy can't play soccer:P

And germany dont even play that good its just that england plays terible hehe.

    Games played:AC1-Darktide'99-2000-AC2-Darktide/dawnsong2003-2005,Lineage2-2005-2006 and now Darkfall-2009.....

Yeah the third reich is annihilating them.

  • ZindaihasZindaihas Member UncommonPosts: 3,662

Well the second half wasn't quite as exciting as the first as Germany took control.  The good news about it is that the goal England were cheated out of ended up not making a difference.  It would have been sad if it had cost England the game.

So now that US and Britian are out of it, it's Germany all the way for me.

Next game up, Mexico v Argentina.  Could be a good game, although Argentina is the clear favorite.
