So just exactly what role will guilds have?

This game appears very PvE centric. No AOC/EvE style gangfights or large scale pvp. There is no way to take over stuff (think I'll pass after seeing firsthand what happened to eve).

so I hope guilds serve more of a purpose than an overglorified linkshell and some kinda quest-card system.

Uhm, as much of a purpose than any other guild system?

Ah well so it is just a crappy mutual friends list. Seriously. FFXIV. 2010 groundbreaking-reinvent-the-genre game. Seriously. I expected something more.

Nah, just a good game. Sorry to disappoint.

Well thats prolly because this is a truly PvE-Only MMO, there won't be the tradition bunny-hopping BS PvP that damn near every other MMO is rife with, go play one of them if you gotta have PvP.

If you want something thats different from everything else, just the Aggro system alone is better than anything else.  All other MMOs have proximity-only...woo thats exciting.  Not only in FFXI but FFXIV also, you have enemies that detect you by sight, and sound, track you by smell, low HP, casting magic, and even tougher mobs later on that can see through your invisible and silence spells.

This alone adds a ton more to how one goes about exploring the world...not by just staying a good distance away from everything...heh

Oh and yeah there won't be any jumping either....end of the world...  <Run Away!>

Well it would be cool if you could level as a company.

Maybe even be able to create a company symbol, at some level, and be able to paint it on a cape and shield? :D

Also it would be cool if the company could own a company building in a town, were you can gather, and maybe even with a teleport to the building option.

Maybe add statics on special battles, so you can rank your company and compair it with other companies.

Also an option that you can decide which races you allow, and maybe also with classes. So a company could be a crafting company, or maybe one special for one class only.

To gain company levels they could create special company quests, depending on the classes that the company allows.

Maybe before getting a building in a town your company needs to have a good standing with the town, by doing specific quests.

So many thing you could do with a company / guild.

But it should all be optional, people who just want a 'linkshell' like group, should be able to do that.

It has potential indeed, but I assume they will only release the core features at retail and expand it over-time.

It is a guild meant for higher level characters after all, so there's no need to have everything ready at start.

Yeah I think you are right that they will expand it later.

But I hope lower level character are also able to join with the fun of company activities.

Anyway, for now it isn't important, but I do hope to see it somewhere in the future. :)

The above statement has been QFT and for emphasis.
