Some might say that if WoW and EVE had offspring, they'd give birth to Garbage Pail Kids.

Kidding aside, I just came accross this game and it's very interesting.

However, here is the #1 reason people are crying about the UI looking just like EVE: It (perhaps falsely) shows a lack of innovation and creativity on the developer's part....it shows a weakness.

A critic might say, "If they had to 'lean' on CCP for the UI, who else are they going to leech from?"

I'm not one of those critics, I'm looking forward to what this game will offer.

I came across this game a while ago, and then forgot about it. I'm a former MechWarrior pilot and I've been looking for something like this since InnerSphere Wars went down. Thanks for reminding me, I have a wingman I need to retrain...

This looks exciting. I used to love playing mechwarrior way back when. About time somebody did an MMO with mechs!

As far as my experience with this game goes, the grind to reach the next chassis is incredible.

That said, the devs are looking into it, thanks to a  number of forum threads and such on the issue.

The game may very well be worth it in the long run, but as it stands, the cost of advancing past the first 'level', as it were, is somewhat prohibitive.  That said, I'm really feeling the points I slot into skills and enhancements; a few points here or there means a substantial increase in killing power, which I appreciate.  Also, no rocking around the Universe just to find a damn skillbook!  They're all right there, they just have a flat purchase price and an EP cost.  1ep/minute, I believe, is the growth rate.

I have no idea how you think perpetuum is anything like wow, its eve with mechs plain and simple.

  • xSagaixSagai Member CommonPosts: 94

Not sure where the WoW comparison comes in as this game is nothing like WoW as this is purely a sandbox game. It plays just like Eve with the exception of the WASD movement of your robot. Don't get me wrong, playing CB I'm having a blast and the comment "breath of fresh air" couldn't be more true but if you think your getting WoW in this you will be extremely disappointed.

I've been championing this game in my guild for months and have been at odds with several guild members over the closeness to EVE in the UI and the lack of creativity it shows from the dev. I agree completely with the first point but on the second I disagree strongly. I see it as a smart move on Avatar Creations part. CCP did something amazing with Eve and why shouldn't someone build off that success? They are a small indy dev team and they have essentially said, "we are going to focus on what counts" and that is the actual game design.

The game is incredibly stable for being in CB, there are constant small updates to address bugs and I've yet to have a patch have issues. Even the "largest patch to date" they announced went smooth. It took all of an hour in the game for me to realize these guys know how to code.  I'll take fun, open, stable gameplay any day over what color or layout a UI has.

if it is, i would give my life for it!

    So What Now?

This really looks like it's going to be a top-quality game.

I have been following this game for some time now, and It's not just "inspired by" EVE Online, it's a blatant, wholesale ripoff of EVE Online. Everything about this game is copped directly from CCP, right down to the icons for the individual modules that comprise your mech's equipment. I am not one to ever suggest litigation, but I hope that CCP's legal department is paying attention, because this is flat-out stealing.

Looks like an interesting game. I have to worry about the server locations though.

That interview was good for the lulz...

...still though, a Google fo CCP Perpetuum Online returns enough threads where the EVE players are discussing it and CCP is closing the thread.

Some of it is fun to hear the EVE fanbois calling it lame from the start.

All in all though, that interview was interesting - a closed beta going on with 10 people on staff in Hungary...hrmm, yeah...see...

I miss the MMORPG genre. Will a developer ever make one again?

I actually got to Alpha test this game about a year back, can't really give my opinion on it though, as that was an extremely early build.

    I'm free on Friday.

Oki i can clearly see the Eve part but where is the Wow ? are there any trolls in the game? Magic ? Even a mech called Lich King? Or perhaps one of the Faction is The Horde !!!

    Ho well I tried ...

  • slashbeastslashbeast Member Posts: 533

Being a long time Mechwarrior/Battletech fan, I can say these mech designs are complete and utter garbage.

    No thanks.

Just because Perpetuum has some similarities to EVE, it does not mean that it is copied. Avatar has some similarities to the Last Samurai, just as the Last samurai had similarities to dances with wolves. Though it does not mean that avatar went and copied and pasted the whole  last samurai movie and put it on a new DVD and named it Avatar, it merely took some good concepts and entwined them in. Stop talking this game down for having similarities to EVE, you guys only notice it because this is the only real sci-fi MMORPG so far after EVE except for black prophecy and JUmpgate evo which are not released yet. When lord of the rings online had very similar UI systems to those from WoW, nobody heard a peep, yet now all hell breaks loose since Perpetuum has some similarities in UI features to EVE.

Its not like CCP puts their source code in the downloads section of their website for free download, these guys didnt just take the code from EVE and paste it in, its an entirely different game with some core concepts from EVE. you must understand that.

Analogy/rant aside, when i said EVE meets WoW i didnt mean the WoW setting or story, i mean the core functions of EVE mixed with the core functions of WoW.

And yes, the game does look very promising that is why i wanted to post it here incase people have not heard of this one, as it is advertised by word of mouth only at the moment.

looks like the best game that hardcores will get nowadays. as it hapens with all this games most of them will try it, wont like it and will drop it sooner than later.

then they will keep bitching that game developers should make games catering for them and yadda yadda yadda....

If some of you have actually played the game or been active on the website, instead of looking at a screenshot of the game UI and smack talking, you would know that actually the game is further away from the EVE UI than it looks and it is moving further away.

    Interesting claim. Links?
