This game's class system seems so very deep, how many character slots do folks think they would like to experiment with?
I'm personally thinking a max of 8 (2 per calling)/server.
With 32 classes in at launch perhaps people would want more.
What do you all think?

Edit: Bah sorry I thought you were asking how many classes they were going with at release not character slots. Forgive my long reply below. For charatcer slots one only needs 4 slots per server as that will give you all combinations of classes per server. But hopefully a lot more than than 4 or 8 and something clsoe to WoW's 50 would be nice so you can make characters on different servers.
The reply below was for how many total classes at release.
I don't think they know yet. If you look at the previews you will be see quite a different bit of information. Some say 8 starting classes total, some say 16, some say 20 something some say they hope to have 30+ and some say 32. This is plus heroic souls. A preview a few months ago said that starting classes would be restricted by faction. Now Trion will not answer that question or answer how many starting souls.
My guess and this is a guess only is that when they decided to commit to the three soul/class system and made it the biggest selling point of the game they realized that they needed as many souls per calling as possible for this to work. Which is why they seem to be moving towards or hoping to have 32 starting souls/classes or 8 starting soul choices per archetype at release. Likely all unrestricted by faction as it simply does not make sense now with the emphasis on this system. The problem is this means when counting heroic souls they will likely have 10-15 total souls/classes per calling or 40-60 total souls/classes. I am guessing right now they only have a small fraction of that done and in game. We so far only know the names of 6 rogue souls and 2-3 each of the other callings. Creating 40-60 soul/classes plus abilities and skill trees is a huge amount of work even though its easier to make a soul than a normal class as balance is not as huge an issue as it is for a normal class as people can switch the souls in and out and the heroic souls it appears will be rather narrow and specialized.
While I am sure they have many classes written down and mapped out on paper most of them are likely far from a finished product especially considering how they may interact with other calling souls. I would also doubt that skill trees and abilities are that close to being done.
I am not trying to be negative as the system sounds great, complex and very interesting if its done well. I just think the reason we are getting so much conflicting information is because they don't know yet and that they likely only committed to this system very recently before the IGN preview. But they do seem to be moving towards the bigger number of classes. As with three souls its almost imperative that we have many many choices to choose from. Especially when they say many of the heroic soul choices will be very specialized for certain roles.
