This my dream, a PERMADEATH Server for WOD -> http://www.massively.com/2010/09/30/permadeath-considered-for-world-of-darkness-mmo/

My hope is there. Worlf of Darkness Permadeath: Yeah!

    Double post, sorry

Uggg, I really hope not. The ganking that would go on is unbelievable. I want to have fun, not have some j3rkwad standing there waiting for new spawns just so he can gank us. I've been waiting for a WOD MMO since the 90's.

So easy, dont join Permadeath Server, join another one.

Honestly I'd be severly disappointed if this game wasn't clan politics and pvp heavy. The game system supports it, and the company developing mastered it.

Logically I can see roles for people who don't care for pvp in the world and the progress of the game, but like any good game of VtM it has to come down to players trying to outwit or out muscle one another.

If the game turns into a "i can brood more deeply in the dark unholier than thou" pve game; it'd get dull really really quickly.

Now if that brooder was well out of Sabbat territory all by herself and she got what's coming to her from a feral nosferatu; just imagine how exciting it'd be to actually play a MMO again where alliances were much more than an extra chat channel option.

Looking forward to it, good post.

Actually, I happen to agree that its perfect for PvP. Given that I loath PvP, thats saying something.

However, there are mechanisms in the game to keep people in check. BUT that relies on the game being implemented properly which also means the Prince should NEVER be a pc, that the Masquerade and all other Traditions must be staunchly upheld including the extreme punishments (such as loss of limb) that are generally given by the Prince when laws are broken, and npc's need to be made aware of whats going on around them, such as... they should notice when someone breaks one of the Traditions and be part of a blood hunt if the Prince should declare one even against pc's.

Otherwise, jerks will take over the game and destroy it faster than your head can spin.

I also think that it shouldn't be possible to have a single spawn spot in the game. The spawn location for new players should be variable and multiple in the dozens to protect new characters from ganking.

The Clan structure of old Masquerade, and more importantly, the distinction between Camarilla and Sabbat is guaranteed to create outstanding opportunities for conflict. But vampiric conflict is almost never physical for the Camarilla, at least not for those who plan to survive. Unless it's the end move in a long drawn out shadow-war of resources and attrition. Howe you set that up in an MMO would be fascinating, but player politics would be the number one method of acquiring power.

I disagree that players can't be Princes, it's a logical position for them to hold. Justicar's can represent the will of the Camarilla should the Masquerade be broken. The position of Prince would be one all aspire to, or at least every Ventrue/Tremere/Brujah/Toreador would.

But what of the Sabbat? Are Lasombra and Tzimisce going to be available? What about Caitiff or the Independents? My favourite all time character when I played the RPG was a Ravnos, oh how I would love to resurrect him here.

And how to you implement game systems for things like the Nosferatu information network or Malkavian insanity? Is it just player run? Ah the posibilities.

And don't even start me on the chance to play a Shadowlord or a Son of Ether... ah WW, great times.

Keep in mind, while for the setting they are using Old WoD for game mechanics they have strongly implied they are going to take from New WoD as well. With a hybrid game system under the hood it certainly opens a lot of possibilities IMO.

I also agree I'd be surprised if no way for player Jusicars or Princes were in some way put into the game. As that does lead to a LOT of player social interaction and possibilies.

I just hope that CCP keeps it in line with EVE online, becuase Despite the STEEP learning curve EVE is an amazingly in-depth game with almost limitless potential for the players to explore.

When in doubt, get more explosives.

So I've heard. I've tried the trial. Didn't like it at all. Not that its a bad game, just not my cup of tea. I prefer actual avatars to space ships, and I prefer being on land to being in space. Thats not to say that I don't like space, after all, Star Wars is always cool and I'm looking forward to SWTOR, but...

I just hope they don't screw it all up. This is the one game I'd say they really need to get right. And yes, that includes fluff like appearance slots, and housing.

IMHO, i feel like a Megaman online is not a great idea, for its was intended for single players only and not for online gamers.

but i hope they prove me wrong about it. Well lets just wait and see

What does Megaman have to do with the WoD? The WoD is about vampires, werewolves, ghosts, and fairies.

Ooo, I love the carbon technology video. I've never seen characters look so real.  I really hope they run it on at least direct x 10 instead of this direct x 9 crap that everyone is releasing right now. I'm willing to upgrade as much as it takes. They NEED to get this right.

Thats a very cool site, btw.

Yeah, but its pretty typical. I'm expecting at least a couple more years of development before alpha. At least, I hope they do this right and take the time to get it correct.
