Yep, Bioware are masters of story making! ME1=KOTOR1, looking for beacons or /coughstarmaps. ME2=Dragon Age, go around collecting buddies (races in dragon ages case), then banding together for some final fight. They rehash the same formula for everything but jade empire and kotor 2. Don't BS yourself.
I suppose character driven story lines are something you're unaware of. Sure the general story has been rehashed in some cases, but that's not the part we remember. We remember the characters we met and their stories we uncovered. Besides you've obviously never played Neverwinter Nights or Baldur's Gate.
Bioware could be a better movie maker than a game developer. They got a great story in every game they create, but lets be honest on this - the weakest link in their latest games has been combat.
The ease with which predictions are made on these forums: Fratman: "I'm saying Spring 2012 at the earliest [for TOR release]. Anyone still clinging to 2011 is deluding themself at this point."
I am more concerned about what we *haven't* seen, than what we have. I can deal with slow combat, the art style doesn't bother me. What I have seen is a real lack of substance. No in depth crafting system, no space combat, no real way for a player to make his mark on the world, hell, no real reason players need to group or even interact with other players?!
I am still going to play, and still look forward to the title. I am one of the old farts who got to see all the SW movies in the theater on their original release, so I am nostalgically addicted to the IP lol. And I am not saying the things I mentioned *wont* be in the game, its just that they keep stressing the combat, and the combat looks pretty much like any other MMO out there. I would like to see/hear about the other aspects of the game.
I was a fan of the old pre NGE SWG, and sadly, I am seeing more depth (if less game driven storytelling) from SWG than I am from this game. An instanced ship we get to decorate (do we even get to decorate it?) is a far cry from the player housing/city system of SWG...
I hope this title blows my mind, but right now it seems like every other MMO on the market to me.

im sure, based on your vast knowledge of Bioware, Kotor 2 not being made by Bioware does not elude you.
OP, the graphics style ain't gunna change. So if you can't get past it now, then you might as well just walk away. As for the combat. We haven't seen enough yet to get an accurate assessment on how it REALLY plays as opposed to how Bioware staged it at E3.
?? I really liked the combat in ME2, was smooth and great fun.
yep me2 combat was awesome. swtor looks very lacking in the combat department though. i don't mind the graphics too much though. just animations and feel of combat looks off-putting.
I find it aggitating that people speak as if Bioware are the defacto best in storytelling in gaming. So not true. They're great with character designs, but there ARE better story designers than Bioware.
Especially seeing as the MMO genre hasn't had anything good since 2004.
Why are you still here then?
Playing: *sigh* back to WoW -------- Waiting for: SW:TOR, APB, WoD --------- Played and loved: Eve and WoW -------- Played and hated: WoW:WotLK, Warhammer, every single F2P
Bioware is just sticking to the KOTOR art style. Good or bad we will find out next year.
Kotor art style? Kotor is 7 years old. That wasn't an art style but a graphical limitation of the time.
peopels should learn the difference between
1) the game engine
and
2) the game design (also called art style/direction)
bioware could have design KOTOR 1 like the todays SWTOR: the design is just not a technical or gameengine related thing.
i have nothing against a comic based design direction (imaging they would use Marvel as reference) but, the current SWTOR design is just ugly. they use the wrong color palette and it seems, they never heard about something the human body proportions. it looks like a game for 12 year old preteens.
well, we also know lucasarts is the publisher. and the current lucasarts design is the same (similar) ugly SWTOR clone wars design. the publisher has always the last word.
we have to blame lucasarts and not bioware for the design!
why not? most peopels agree with him. just take a look into the official forums.
It looks better than WoW's combat, as well as EQ2, and actually all game's out of the same combat style. I don't see why people are complaining. This style will always be here. The combat ability's are nice, need to be polished I'll admit. But way more fun to watch than anything i've seen out of the style.

Mmm don't think so. At least so far. Not nearly as fluid. Better than EQ2 tho.
Using LOL is like saying "my argument sucks but I still want to disagree".

dude, they do not only complain about the combat, it's the overall style of the game.
Although I admit that some of the information that came from E3 was a little disappointing for me personally, I am still definately going to get this game.
I love Star Wars, I love BioWare games... For me its a no brainer. I will play this game.
I'm not a huge fan of the character models, but I think the combat will be fine by the time this game releases, sure it looks a little stiff sometimes at this point in its develoment, but I'm sure it will be a lot more flowing and crisp by release. To be totally honest, I really don't think it looks that bad now.
By the way OP if you truly want to see BAD combat, look no further than Final Fantasy XIV (which is due for release in 3 months). There is a lovely video on this very site showing you FFXIV combat in all its utterly dreadful glory. *shivers*

Yet again, whats wrong with the style of game? It's no different than the majority of MMO's out now. It has probably the strongest IP to support an MMO. Bioware never said this game was going to be something new or genre changing. It's their view on how an MMO should be, with a solid story better combat, and whatever secrets they have planned that we don't know yet.
Many other's and myself see nothing wrong with this. People need to accept that MMORPG's are going to all look and feel the same because dev's can't afford to make a game that can only be supported on the best system, just to make a genre changer.
Have a look at THIS VIDEO, the combat doesn't look that bad to me, looks a lot better than some titles out there.
I watched this video posted by EvilGeek, and I must say, in my humble opinion, the combat animations seem to be superior to WoW. The deflection of blaster bolts and clashing of swords/lightsabers looked really cool.
I gotta admit, I hadn't noticed just HOW tactile the combat was until i saw that video posted earlier. Yes, the combat system itself may not be new, but its the little touches to the contact made during combat that to ME make the difference. Fighting with a light saber against a Jedi is going to be cool with the sabers clashing.

There is so much fail in that video...LOL!
Why?
Because the very thing they are ragging on is being done in SW:ToR. PC's standing face to face with a MOB and exchanging blows. LOL! You telling me you do not see it? Or how about the range running up and stopping, exposing themselves to fire from other ranged and then sitting there firing back and forth at one another. Take off you rose colored glasses and open your eyes and you'd see it..because it really is there.
