Blizzard is bringing back the crowd control, CC, requirement for dungeons.
.
Since everything is a clone of blizzard's, this will push the industry towards more CC.
.
My feelings are mixed. I remember the fun times we had with CC in the early days but I also remember how hard it was to find a CC class at times.
.
All those 'YOU BROKE SHEEP!' arguments with mages who took it personally, heh

I enjoy playing a mage class that has CC abilities, I'm looking forward to it. CC adds more depth and a dynamic element to combat.
Time to break out the "You break the sheep, you tank it" macros

The key is to make more than one CC class so that if a person might not like one they might like the other. I always loved playing some sort of CC class, especially in games where they are needed a lot, you get parties quicker.
Agreed. Considering that warlocks, priests, mages, druids, hunters, rogues all have CC abilities, then it looks like group encounters are about to get interesting again.

The game is much more interesting when you are fighting multiple mobs, and there's more margin for error. If the CC player misses a mez, if the DPS breaks a mez, if the healer accidently gets to close to aggro and pulls a mob the CC can't mez, if the mez wears off before you finish the other mobs you're fighting, etc., etc.
All those sorts of things can happen and it really breaks up the combat experience, which makes it fun IMO.
I would rather have CC control spread over other classes, otherwise its just a pain in the ass for raiding content
find a healer that dont go afk, find a tank that sustain agro, find a mage/hunte that dont agro the entire instance/wipe, NOW find a good cc to keep all this bastards alive. damn making the already boring into a hole new lvl of guildie murder =(
now: GW2 (11 80s).
Dark Souls 2.
future: Mount&Blade 2 BannerLord.
"Bro, do your even fractal?"
Recommends: Guild Wars 2, Dark Souls, Mount&Blade: Warband, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning.
Tough call because of two factors: 1) having a good CC person in the party. I sux ass at it, so it feels selfish to say that playing in a good party in a tough zone with lots of potential adds with a good CC person is a lot of fun, but I can't be that guy. Anyhow I did vote "Yes".
2) I considered voting "No" because CC in pvp battles sucks ass (esp. if, as I mentioned, I suck at it ).
I can also roleplay the tower in a chess game and shout "is that a peasant at the horizon I see? I will smash it I will! Oh damn I broke one of my merlons!". -- maji
CC ROCKS!.. it makes fights interesting. Very happy Blizzard is keeping it in wherever possible.
I would love Ice Freezing Crowd control. On the other hand though, if crowd control is not optional in parties then I would rather not bother playing the game. Makes me feel useless than I already do.
Shout: Dungeon Party Looking for Crowd Control

System: Accepted to party
Player party leader: "Oh by the way Ice Mage, your only allowed to use your freezing attacks or your booted."
You: "What do I look like to you, a disposable puppet?"
This is the exact same thing clerics feel. That's the one thing I hated about clerics. It's fun healing, but being told to heal is another. (Though either way I would have healed, but that's besides the point. If you can DD and heal, you should be able to do so. Some people are actually GOOD at alternating between the two and get kicked. Then the party gets a new cleric that just heals. [Which means they lost more time to get more exp time and added a less helpful cleric.])
My view: Heal when you have to, preplan healing, and have the option to attack. It's not like you don't have MP potions or anything. Also the faster the mob dies, the less durability people lose, the less healing you have to do, and the less time it takes to kill a mob.
Edit: Fnorgby also has a good point on some of the negatives of it also. Usually the company focuses on the PARTY CC aspect and not the PVP CC concept.
Also PvE might turn to the worst and REQUIRE you FULLY to have CC. Now that would suck. No offense but usually you find less CC in some games than anything else.
(I haven't voted cause the postives balance the negatives out and vise versa. )
I have mixed feelings. Because not all classes that dps will have good CC
Philosophy of MMO Game Design
It seems kitting it also coming back.. yay!
Heres a video of some one running one of the cataclsym dungeons and he talks about it, if you dont want to watch... his crew is in a new 5man lvl 78-81 normal dungeon in ICC 25 gear, even in that gear they need to kite some mobs in a boss encouter and also if not for their gear and if it was HC mode they would be looking to CC some mobs as they come in groups of 3 to 5.
So CC back.. YAY! kitting back.. YAY! now we just need to bring back DPS pulling aggro again, so tanks have to do more than spam aggro attacks and move out of the fire.
Don't want to bust any bubbles.. but the return of CC is only a small one.. Blizzard only said that CC will have some minor return, similar to doing the Pit of Saron.. Remember the fight going up the hill? That is what Blizzard is talking about.. There will be one or two situations per dungeon in which CC will be a viable action and welcomed.. Trust me.. the LFD finder tool will still only let you queue up in 1 of 3 roles.. and CC won't be one of them.. 90% of the Trash pulls will still be AOEfest..
In higher levels, CC seems more accepted for some MMORPG's. (CC though still gets treated like trash, which is Ironic since they are keeping the party alive and letting the cleric rest a bit.) I have had only ONE instance in which I was praised for being a good CC. (And trust me, I am an EXCELLENT CC.) Most of the time though, I was treated like a disposable puppet. (I remember one time when I was kicked from a party and replaced. Ironically, I was a druid build, so they died from lack of healing and lack of CC.)
If its a pvp game then i hate CC with a passion. but if its just PVE then what ever CC your little hearts out.
EQ had cc first...technically. But I already had cc and thought it was a good verstile dynamic.
For some games, Isn't that a good thing?

LFDP 51 CC (DD) (Tank)...
(DD was picked over CC. Always good to have a secondary tank in some games.)
I guess the point I'm making is, if CC is being introduced, IT MAINLY depends on the game and how it was designed and such. Your not going to want a CC if you can get away with just DD. Your not going to want DD if you can't survive without CC.
