TERA: The Game I've been waiting for

PistallionPistallion Member Posts: 7

So i just recently heard of this game from IGN and decided to see some info on this game. The first thing that went through my head was, no way! this is the game I've been wanting to make for years! My current dream is to become a video game producer and this is one of the types of games ive been thinking of for a long time. Ive looked far and wide for the MMORPG for me, and this game looks to be the answer!

What do we learn from korean MMOs?

    First, MASSIVE grind

    Second, there will be bots

Now, how TERA deals with these problems is yet to be seen. Gameplay vids from youtube shows promise, but i wont hold my breath for this one.

    This.

    Grind + Bots in Tera = ?

If both will be out of control like in Aion then this game have to await the same path Aion went.

    EvE doors

See the best doors on EvE-on!

First they have completely removed the grind to the point that is nothing like a Korean game. Thousands of quests have been added to the game to specifically appeal to Western players.

Botting is likely to be impossible in Tera because of the colision based action combat system. There is no dodge/block stat in Tera so you have to actively block or move out of the way of mob attacks. The mobs aren't inteligent but they go through a routine where if you are not paying attention they will wreck your character.  You can't stand there and spam attacks like a bot would. That would be suicide in Tera. For example a mob will visually rear back before it pounces. If you don't hold down the block key or jump out of the way your character is going to get smashed pretty good. I don't see how bots will be able to deal with this system.

The OP is correct. This is going to be the game we have been waiting five years to play. The domination of WoW has given us 5 years of mediocrity. Tera is going to change that.

Correct, there is very little or close to none grind in Tera. At least from level 1 to 20, which I've personally experienced.

The botting issue is however a question we can't answer ourselves, and neither can En Masse. They will however do everthing they can do solve this issue, and I'll take their word for that.

Also, about the bot issue. All I can say is read Eruadan's interview with an RMT operator at TeraBlah: http://www.terablah.com/forums/general-discussion/1935-rmt-industry-tera-interview.html

I'm in a position where I totally believe the operator in this matter. I have experienced and seen first hand of a few of the top-notch bot programs for several of games and they are bloody unbelieveable. There are times where you could easily take it as an actual player. Of course, there are also times where they totally looks robot-ish.

I'm in no way favoring bots or RMT, however, I still believe that we will see them in Tera aswell.
