LFGame with little to no Voice use

penthepenthe Member Posts: 25

I know this is kind of a weird request, but I'm looking for a game where voice is rarely used. The reason for this I am shy! I played lotro and there is in game voice that is very hard to ignore/not use in party. Aion almost every legion requires vent. WoW only end game requires vent. < I kinda liked that about wow.

Is there a game coming out, ffxiv or gw2? anything with little to no voice use?

It's not the game that requires it, it's the people.

As much as I don't like it either, it can help a lot with making quick decisions while not taking your hands off of your controls. FFXI is a good example, at least for me, it was slow enough that you can type a lot before something happens.

I met a guy in WoW that  had a problem with his voice, he was 21 years old yet his voice sounded like a 10 year old boy, when we first heard his voice we all were like "WTF ?", a kid ?, but then he explained that he had hormone problems and something like that, I really didn't pay much attention,  but yeah at first some guys make fun of him, but I was an officer and I told everyone to not make fun of him because it was not right and it eventually would bring some drama to the guild and I didn't want that, so eventually no one made fun of him, problem now is that he won't shut up and the problem is not his voice is his attitude even tho his voice sounds like a 10 year old boy he also acts like one, he is very persistent, like "oh please, please, please, please, can i have that, please pelase please, etc..." just like a kid.

I've also heard that this guy was very trolled by his voice in his previous guild yet this was not the case in our guild, so you see, it depends on the guild, plus most guilds in WoW require you to have vent yes, but you can only hear what others say, you don't really have to talk, you just say you don't have a mic and thats it and if you are deaf then I really don't know what you could do :S

Though i don't know any game off the the top of my head, that'd suit your gaming needs that doesnt usually require some sort of vent. I know that some guilds (such as mine) Never required you to actually talk on vent. Vent was required, as it was an end game guild, but a mic was not. Its hard to cordinate things during a boss fight, if you cant just talk, typing takes to much time and you'll die or mess up lol. So i'd advise just to look around for a guild such as that, in any game you find interesting.

As for the shyness, my wife was the same way at first, she would NEVER talk, and now, she always talks. ;p so its just something u get use to after awhile, she hated it at first too.

    I have the same problem...

I'm kind of a loner and don't like to talk much, I mean i have no problem being on vent and answer if people say something to me, but I don't enjoy chatting about all and nothing.

But I am kinda shy, and I usually stick to background unless something really pisses me off, then I can't help myself lol, sometimes people get a shock cause usually I don't say shit. :P

Anyway, I try to be as social as i can, and when people ask me to get on vent I do, though i really don't feel like it, but after a couple of days of talking, it all becomes more relaxed and you get to "know" people better.

So try to jump into it mate...

The brave are not the ones without fear, the brave are the ones who overcome it.

And for what it's worth, I got social phobia / anxiety, in RL too, so your not alone mate.

Well the thing is, I am a woman and have a very seductive voice and it gets many people the wrong idea.. Just to get an idea, when I worked customer service I had some customers propose over the phone (psychos)  and I am married so when they start asking about personal stuff I keep having to get into those awkward situations. I just wanna play a game without talking, I dont mind listening in on directions and what not, but when the guild mates start asking personal questions then I usully just leave vent and quit guild... :/ Plus Im french so people are like where are you from !??!?! and dont always understand what they say when they have thick accents and vice versa.

It gets a little annoying after awhile >.<

That's something entirely different, but if you are a woman with a seductive voice, and the geeks tend to ask questions you don't want to answer, just set em straight.

Tell 'em that whatever they are asking is non of their buisness.. And that you are married.

If they keep doing stuff you don't like just leave, I don't see how this has anything to do with your initial post though.

For your last concerns, you should look for a french guild then, if you have troubles understanding people, if people have a heavy accent and i don't understand them I usually just tell them that whatever they just said made no sense to me at all, lol, or as other have suggested, look for a guild where a mic is not required, and just say you don't own a mic.

In any case, it shouldn't hold you back in playing whatever game you enjoy.

I agree with others, Just gotta find the right group really. Almost any game is going to have groups that feel that vent/TS is required for something. I've hardly ever used my mic but I often listen on vent.

I understand your position though. For me, people make fun of my voice or can't hear me cause it is sooo low - I'm always told I could do voice acting for the devil or a demon or something       :p

VOIP does make things a lot easier for groups to work together so it is used by most guilds. However there are still a lot of people out there that for whatever reason decide to never use it. Some because they are shy, some because they want to keep immersed into the game (there's nothing like a brute warrior that sounds like a little kid or a cute elf that sounds like a man in his forties with a hangover to break the immersion), etc, etc. There are guilds that do all the endgame content just as the hardcore guilds do, just a bit slower because they prefer to take their time and use their keyboards to communicate rather than their voices.

If you want to find a game in which you can do all the content without using VOIP the trick is not to find the game, but to find the players since every game has guilds like that. You could ask around on the server forums or if you are brave/masochistic you could ask in any of the global channels within whatever game you play. Sure 9 out of 10 replies you get will be from people not understanding how anyone would not use vent, but you only need 1 to push you in the right direction to get the guild you are looking for.

    Goodluck.

I can only agree with my estemed colleagues on here, its not the game its the people.

I'm an officer in a high end raiding guild on wow and a raiding guild on LOTRO and also play EVE (no kids is great!) and none of them require actually to talk but just to listen on vent/TS (Unless your a raid leader, but then in vanilla wow our raid leader didn't but thats because he was like 16 and we didn't know, but he was a great raid leader!)

BTW if you don't want unwanted attention in a guild find a female friendly one, my guild on wow has a female guild leader and we're about 1/3 female which is a bit low in my opinion and would love to be the only bloke :P

Sometimes it is easier to use voice but other times I think it makes harder to concentrate on the game if everybody is talking too much! It depends on game and people.
