hi! Iv played both and as much as aion is my favorite game right now, Id have to say wow.  Aion is lacking in certain areas, some of the charater models are lacking any ingenuity and look as if they were made from a 5 minute clay session in a  pre-school kids room.  Aion does other things better then wow like world pvp, which is down right a blast with rifting!  They both have there cons and pros but I think wows great pve envirements and dungeons beat aions pvp/world pvp.

Well, sounds like you're bored of wow atm, so really no reason to force yourself to go back to it now when you're bored. You can always go back later, when cataclysm comes out is probably a good time.

Also, it is usually more fun to play an MMO with someone else, so if your friend is getting Aion, why not join him? Also, playing an MMO is not all about getting to the end game, it is about having fun throughout.  Join your friend, expand your horizons, hehe.

No idea if you will like it or not, but better than forcing yourself to play something you find boring and need a break from.

Aion is a eastern style MMO with lots of pastel colors and(for me at least) it took a longer amount of time to accomplish things such as leveling, finding groups, and crafting but I had a good experience all around.

Unless you're strapped for cash it might be worth giving Aion a shot and try out something new. Especially if your friend is just starting up as well, might be fun.

Aion's graphics and combat are superior to WoW imo.  WoW is a lot more casual friendly, though.  I'm not really into dungeons, but I believe WoW has better ones.  It also has battlegrounds, so if you want to PvP instantly, you can do so.  The closest thing Aion has to that is Dredgion, which only pops up once in a while.  If you want PvP in Aion you are going to have to hunt people down.  Sometimes you will find a fight quickly, other times you will spend a lot of time walking/flying around.

While many of the core mechanics are similar between both titles, there's quite a few subtle differences in each game that really sets them apart from each other. If you were interested in eye-candy, well then more than likely Aion would be your safest bet. But as far as general gameplay go, there's some nice added quirks in Aion; directional movement in combat having a slight impact, the flight during PVP, all those little gimmicks that add some flavor ontop of the formula that both titles obviously share.

Aion's world is gorgeous, but feels quite linear through the majority of the areas. As far as comparing the world and size of the world, or adventuring in general, Warcraft has the larger mass, more variety, and more open spaces.

Of course the games only share mechanic similarities, the higher-level/endgame focus is quite different between each titles. There's not as much as a PVE scene in Aion, the content just isn't there. And the PVP system isn't as fluid as they would of had us believe during all the pre-launch hype.

If you want something similar to WOW, but different enough to where it could potentially capture you, give it a shot. I actively play both titles and juggle both the subscriptions. WOW is more fleshed out, it has more content, and the general flow of the game is a bit smoother. I do, however, thoroughly enjoy most aspects of Aion over WOW.

    Depends what you like.

If you like open PvP, and don't mind a long, slow, leveling experience, Aion is better.

If you like battleground PvP, questing, and dungeon PvE, WoW is better.

I only played Aion for the free month that came with purchasing the game. I somewhat enjoyed the game... the combat was alright, I liked the character customization, the pvp rifting and fighting in the astral was all interesting, but in the end I felt like it took too much grind to have much fun. It was actually a memorable experience, I had an awesome leveling buddy and made a lot of friends and even some enemies, had a few adventures amongst the mostly boring leveling experience, but it ended up not being enough. I think if the game had more features like player housing, mounts, or something it *might* be worth the grind, or if they just made it a little less grindy it would be more fun. I dunno. Oh I also didn't like how the world didn't feel connected to me like I had been spoiled to in WoW, I know picky.

I played WoW for let's see.. 5 years off and on, and when I look back I can't really explain why I was so hooked to that game. When I started playing in Vanilla it was also grindy, BUT before everything was made brain dead easy (and I was new) I made good friends in the game and we actually *explored* and had fantastic adventures, and the grinding became completely irrelevant to me. I'm not quite sure why I stuck around after the expansions that killed my favorite game... I mean it still had some good things, and I enjoyed the raiding and some of the community. I would probably be playing it right now, but I can't justify spending $15 a month for a game I can only stand to play very occasionally.

Well I'm just rambling now. Aion and WoW both have notable PvP and PvE in my opinion, but I generally preferred Aion's PvP to WoW's (although only by a small margin since WoW had measures to copy aion and WAR, wintergrasp *cough*) and I prefer WoW's PvE to Aions (but to be fair I didn't reach end game in Aion).

Having played both myself I would say that they are pretty similar to one another, however, if you like grinding to max cap lvl then you will love Aion, if on the otherhand you hate grinding up lvls then you will hate Aion...  Classes are all pretty similar to WoW, graphics are much much better in Aion, pvp wise I would say Aion edges it.

As i say, Aion comes down to how much you love grinding upto max lvl cos it starts at lvl20 and then progressively gets worse, ending up with something like 50% of the lvl to grind through as you have run out of quests to do.  Personally i hated the grind in Aion and that was why i quit after only playing it for 1 month.

WoW's end-game content is definitely richer for both PvP and PvE players while Aion mainly focuses on the PvP aspect.

The down side of getting into WoW is that you will have to pay quite a lot at the start (Vanilla WoW+TBC+WOTLK and there's Cataclysm which will come out this year), while Aion is just one box.

First post. Hi guys. Don't mind my bad English.
