I'm going to predict WoW. Blizzard has a good size kiddy fanbase.
It's pretty obvious by now that WoW will be the most successful MMO ever, because as the above poster almost points out, it's enjoyed by kids and adults.
Yes, WoW appeals to more than just the geek with no life that plays games 24/7.
I'm not a geek without a life and EQ2 appeals to me.
There, I just proved your statement wrong.
L1 is the biggest MMORPG of all time.....WoW and EQ2 dont even come close to there numbers.
hands down L1 is the winners in a numbers battle.(im not saying that it is a better game...that would depend on the player...BUT numbers do not lie)
actually, the highest selling MMORPG of all time IS Lineage 1...
even games like EQ and FFXI dont come close... Lineage 1 beats out even the most popular American MMO's by litterally MILLIONS...

Games Played - Too many to list~
Games Currently Playing - City of Heroes.
Favorite Game So Far - Lineage 1 ^^
I also answer to "Peeler", "BigPeeler-RMX", "BiggerPeeler", BiggiePeels", "BP" and "Snake". Yes, I rather like "Snake"...
By the way. For future Reference, i do NOT have stairs in my house.

1) Lineage 1 with something over 1 million subscribers worldwide total
2) Lineage 2 with something over 730,000 subscribers worldwide total
3) Final Fantasy XI with something over 610,000 subscribers worldwide total
4) EverQuest 1 with something over 540,000 subscribers worldwide total
5) StarWars:Galaxies (Last reported numbers were just over 300,000 subscribers)

In War - Victory.
In Peace - Vigilance.
In Death - Sacrifice.
A list of the mmorpg's with most subscribers, would be something like:
1. Lineage
2. Lineage 2
3. Final Fantasy XI
4. WoW
5. EQ2
6-100. Daoc, EQ, AO, Coh, SWG, etc...
In time, WoW may surpass Final Fantasy though, its getting bigger by the day and it has not even released in Europe yet.

dont you mean like the quickest launch?
You cant compare a game just launched subscriber wise with a game thats been out for 2 years.
Obviously the game which has just launched will get more subscribers as time goes on.,
I think he was talking of the first week no of subscribers.
Beta Tested: Lineage 2, Ryzom, City of Heroes, RYL, EverQuest 2 World Of Warcraft European

actually, i believe some of your numbers are slightly off there...
Lineage 1 for instance has made well over 1 million... i hear alot of different numbers, but i believe it peaked around 2.5 million, if not 3 mill... not sure of the exact numbers, but im positive it went WELL over 1 million...
Lineage 2 went over the 1 million mark not too long ago i believe...
also i thought FFXI had reached 1 million at some point (or close to it), although i could be wrong...
EQ1 sounds about right...
not sure about SWG... never payed much attention to it...
anyways, i could be wrong... this is just how i remember it from last i checked (which was quite awhile ago)...

i was lineage 2 but i think WoW will take the lead no problem since everyone likes blizzard
i wouldnt be surprised if WoW allready sold more copies than all the leading games put together

Lineage 1 is the best selling mmorpg of all time. In Korea if you sign up for a gaming/internet cafe you get a free lineage account. I think lineage 2 is the same way now.. but not sure.
WoW is by far the best selling mmorpg for actual sales.

I think WoW will be the best selling, but I doubt it will ever get anywhere near the subscribers Lineage has. For one, I wouldn't be surprised if alot of people who thought it would be something new find out its just like every MMORPG and quit, or are turned off by the poor launch. I just dont tihnk it has much staying power unless your a hardcore blizzard/warcraft lover. I can see WoW peaking its subscriber limit about 2-3 months after UK release, then its all downhill from there, but I could be wrong
I'd have to say UO.

WoW might actually turn out to be best selling MMO in US. To my knowledge though they still haven't broken 300,000 accounts. Which technically puts it behind EQ1. If you think about the fact it took EQ1 5 years to get the 500,000+ accounts they had. Then I guess that would put WoW out ahead considering they sold 200,000 + boxes (accounts) in roughly a couple days. I'm not going to say anything about EQ2. As I know that with my WoW sig it will just turn this thread into a EQ2 vs WoW flame. Yet to my knowledge so far SOE has been unwilling to release any numbers on accounts created or boxes sold since the release of EQ2. Best guess would be somewhere probably in the neighborhood of 200,000+ as well. Seeing as EQ2 and WoW were two highly awaited titles. At least as far as the big name developers/publishers go.

Mir2 had 700k+ subscribers (hard to believe i know, but L@@K), so it should feature on that top 5 list somewhere
I have a friend who bought WoW thinking it was a RTS.
