Why children should NOT be on the internet

devilisciousdeviliscious Member UncommonPosts: 4,359

This morning in the car I was listening to the eagle talking about this crazy 11 year old making videos and posting them on the internet, as they played her audio back over and over making fun of her, I can;t help but wonder what on earth is an 11 year old kid doing on the internet in the first place? Seriously-  the internet is not a babysitter and from this little girls mouth it seems it is the only thing raising her. What about REAL social interactions? The internet is not a safe place to send your children, apparently her name and address was posted online and now she has people making death threats. I cannot understand how her parents or ANY parents for that matter could just allow their kids to do these things. From the sound of this kid she needs some serious parental intervention. It is really sad that parents think this can be good for their children in any way-  MADNESS!

The sad thing is in many games I have played, I have met little girls just like this,  posting revealing pictures of themselves,  doing things they will one day regret. It is sad parents allow this crap to happen in the first place.  This crap they do now could affect whether or not they are accepted into a college, whether or not they get a job one day- they should realize that the internet is forever, you can;t take it back once it gets out there.

When I was about 12 or so I was using the internet to download porn, and this is back when all you could get was pics.

    I ended up fine.

ROFL! You know the really sad thing- those are her parents. That poor kid never had a chance. Why is it so hard for parents to take away the PC? LOL image

All things in moderation, I think that generally using a term like Should Not is bad form when making an argument.   The same form of argument can be made against video games, teenage sex and even things like learning to drive a car.   Age is only a very rough measure of mental maturity anyway.  Besides who would enforce something like this?  In the end it comes down to the parent’s responsibility to prepare their children for the real world and the internet.

Bad parenting, downfall of our society and why kids are failing these days.  More and more women wanted to work, so now nobody's watching the kids, nobody's spending time with them.  So now kids go online to get attention, and they get plenty of it.  Nobody teaches kids manners anymore, nobody teaches them respect.  So now we bump into young punks everywhere.

It really comes down to bad parenting.  Not to mention some people really shouldn't have kids in the first place.

Holy shit her parents are terrible. Unplug the damn PC! Take away the web cam and mic at the very least. No one's attention span on the internet is longer than a week. Turn away the pizzas and call-girls until then. Yeesh.

Before the Internet bad parents were using the TV as a babysitter and now it's computers, game consoles and the Internet. The technology has changed but the principals are exactly the same. I'm not saying it's right I'm just saying that this problem has been around a lot longer than computers and the Internet. It amazes me when people wonder why kids and infact a lot of adults are so screwed up these days. This has been going on since Television became wide spread in the 1960's or so.
