Not really. Recommended in no way mean required. Recommended is a standard if  you want to be able to run the game and have it look good. It in no way mean you HAVE to have that stuff. Thats what the minimum requirements are. and even with them on low it will still look good. As if graphics means alot anyway when it comes to a FF game as long as it feels like your in a FF universe people will be happy.

  • xcaliburxcalibur Member Posts: 571

Yeah, if those were the 'minimum' requirements good luck getting it running on the ps3 :)

I don't have those system requirements, I have a Quad Core 2.6,4GB ram,8800GT superclocked edition,Windows 7 64bit and I'm getting 3000-3090. Like the other poster said those are the specs if you want it to look great. I think as long as anyone is over a 2500 score you'll be fine on normal settings.

Question about that.  I never played FFXI and I've just recently been getting heavy into the hype for FFXIV (What can I say? I've been a long time MMO'er and this looks like it could be the game I've been waiting for to bring back a true MMO feel).

Anyways, my question is, are they going to be forcing us to play at that resolution windowed mode as the max size?  I'm sure this is a dumb question, and I'll get an answer saying you can play full-screen at all of the latest resolutions, but I figured I'd ask anyways lol.

  • ArmaniDemonArmaniDemon Member Posts: 133

Most people who stay on top of their upgrading will meet or surpass those specs in two years tops. I imagine SE is hoping to get a little more time in with their game than that.

The game runs on a dual 2ghz with graphics cards 4 generations old. Doesn't sound all that outrageous to me.

  • Gabby-airGabby-air Member UncommonPosts: 3,440

Yeh they're definitely gonna take a hit on sub numbers due to those requirements but what bothers me more is the fact that the graphics aren't actually THAT great. When I play AOC on max settings I can't stop looking at the screen because its gorgeous and I'm only able to run this game on medium settings and even then they're isnt much going on.

Heh, I love the look of XIV, not only does it actually looks like real cloth and armor but it will age very well too, just like FFXI...it still looks great after 8 years and its not that horrible painted on look.   And heck even the starter gear IMO far surpasses the end-game gear I've seen in AoC...it just looks so bland and boring.  I bet this realistic clothing look eats a ton of resources though and is prolly a large part of why these rec. specs are so high, not that I have any problems with them...

In other news, I've decided for now that instead of getting the GTX 470 or 480 as originally planned, I'm going for the GTX 475 once it releases which should be up next, and judging by how much that GTX 460 kicks so much ass at such a low price, I would guess the 475 will be around $300-350 which is perferctly in my price range.  I did the same back when I waited on and purchased the GTX 275...

If u don't need to upgrade the Graphic card that urgently u might wanna wait till October ATI supposedly release there 6000 series in October which might lead to a lot of prize changes in the Graphic card sector.

Uh no...I hate ATI with every fiber of my being...nVidia FTW!

I didn't say get an ATI just pointed out that the prizes of the cards may change.

I am an Nvidia fan myself but over the last couple years ATI constantly was the better deal now with the 460 it looks like Nvidia might be back but if ATI delivers on the promises for the 6000s series it could be a short victory for Nvidia and prize changes might be in order....

  • KhrymsonKhrymson Member UncommonPosts: 3,090

I take it when you say prizes, you mean price?  Prices will always keep dropping and if you keep waiting; something better will start to drop and the cycle repeats and you never get a new GPU...heh  The 475 will be good enough for 2-3 yrs...

Like i said in my first post if u don't need to get it urgently waiting till October would be the smart move if u don't care or just cant wait till than u of course should get ahead and get what u need.

I will wait till than (since i am in no real need for upgrades anyway) and see whats happening than,,,,and if ATI delivers ill prolly even get an ATI.

BTW yes i meant price when i spelled prizes i am not English so i cant tell but certainly hope this misspelling didn't take u too much time to figure out what i meant if it did i do apologize for it.....

I wouldn't be too worried about this.

    Just wait and see.

The Beta testers probably may speak before the game release, and they will give their thoughts on this, we will probably know what is the minium needed to play decent enough to have fun.

I am not worried at all.

My pc is around 2 years old I think, geforce 8800GT, dua core CPU E8400 3.00 GHz, 2 GB RAM.

I probably can't play high settings, but I am sure standard settings are good enough.

I slowly can upgrade the old stuff.

So I just wait and see.

Should add "Gamepad is required" since keyboard + mouse is aweful and not playable

The game is built for gamepad consoles and converted to PC

I have a GTS 250. I guess I'm screwed, yes? I'll wait till march when it comes out on PS3. I'll live, it's just the urge to play this game is so immense it's unbearable.

  • RaxeonRaxeon Member UncommonPosts: 2,288

gts 250 might be able to play it

So this is the recomended system for playing at 1280x720

I'll play 1680x1050 so i guess i need a bit stronger processor and I'll put in a 2nd 460 in SLI combined with 6GB's of memmory.

Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)

for soem odd reason i think the processor is wrong the benchmark doesnt even come close to maxing an quad i dont think

  • CalladanCalladan Member Posts: 6

I guess this raises the question just how useful is the benchmark. I was getting a speed of 2290 on high resolution (1920 x 1080) and I have a intel core quad Q6700 with a Nvidia GeForce GTX 260.

Personnally think that is way too high and I wonder if this might be the test rig they were using. I think in this case it may be more importatnt to go by the minimum specifications as a guide.

  • MariouzMariouz Member Posts: 186

Guys the game is optimized to run on a single core, not 3, 4 or 6, so even if you have a 6 core CPU if the single core that the game is using can't be pushed then you are still going to get a bad benchmark. The number of Cores is insignificant to tell you the truth unless you plan on running other things on them or dual boxing and being able to actually run the other game on a second or third core.

I would not worry about the super computer they are running and wait until the game comes out, run it and then see what you need to improve on.
