Could a 360 even run this game? 512MB of system ram doesn't go far in any MMO (even old ones) , and the Xenos was good five years ago, but is completely outclassed by even the lowest-end modern budget GPUs.
Not that I think it couldn't be done if they really wanted to, but with all the complaints we're seeing already about system requirements I'm not sure SE would even be able to scale it down that far.

I'm sure they could make it work on the 360. Just MS has some really strict rules on what you can do on their system.
It's really a wonder they let FFXI be put on it... those rules probably weren't in place then, is all I can figure...

The ps3 also only has 512MB of ram, 256system/256 video. The cpus are about the same really, the ps3 has a slight advantage of a few more cores that are mostly used for video proccessing that could be the issue.
As far as Xbox live goes, FFXI doesn't require a gold acount, the free silver works, and they use the same servers as pc/ps2.
However the xbox 360 port of FFXI was kinda slapped together out of the pc port and has all kinds of video slowdown issues in busy places.
I don't see any real reason it can't run on the 360 on slightly reduced settings like FF13 did, as they use the same engine from what I understand. It's probably more of a case of them not wanting to support 3 platforms at launch

MS allows MMOs to require harddrive space as an exception, they also allow online play w/o a gold account to all games provided that they host their own dedicated servers and they work with MS in advance, their are a few EA games for example that don't use xbox live to handle multiplayer. MS does require that the xbox port of games have something unique, in the case of FFXI it was proper widescreen, voice chat, and achievements
Final Fantasy XIV producer Hiromichi Tanaka explained to Eurogamer.net during this year's E3 why Final Fantasy XIV will unfortunately not see a launch on the XBOX 360 platform:
"The main reason why we couldn't go with Xbox 360 was the Xbox Live system," he explained at E3. "[Live is] different to the normal internet environment, so when we wanted to introduce this game in the same environment as Windows PC it had to be PS3, so that was our choice.
"Microsoft has a different point of view: they want to have a closed environment for Xbox Live. We're still talking to... We couldn't come to an agreement on Xbox Live."
Square Enix number-one Yoichi Wada told GamesIndustry.biz a similar story; he said what he'd like to see "first and foremost" was a network structure that allowed third parties to "freely design different business schemes".
Final Fantasy XIV won't be the first MMO snagged by the closed nature of a console's online service . Cryptic chucked in the towel on an Xbox 360 version of Champions Online earlier this year. Producer Craig Zinkievich told Eurogamer he was frustrated with the business side of getting an MMO on Xbox Live; the game itself, he said, ran just fine.

M$ wants their share, SE won't let 'em have it.
Meaning you would need to pay the xbox live subs fee to play this game on it, on top of the XIV subs fee.
SE doesn't think that's a good idea.
Maybe for Xbox 720, Idk.
yep they want closed servers instead of being all on the same server so. blame greedy microsoft
