NCsoft having problems?

ComanComan Member UncommonPosts: 2,178

Is NCsoft having some problems right now? I have recieved mails that all my accounts of guild wars have its details changed. I have not done this and offcourse might be someone hacked my account . However at the same time https://secure.ncsoft.com/login is not working as intended and http://ncsoft.com/ is down completly. Is NCsoft having problems? Are they having problems with hackers and are the mails just bogus? Or is it just a coincidence that my account got hacked at the same time NCsoft website start to mess up?

Seems my master account is already locked though and already send a mail to NCsoft, but any else got mails from NCsoft that there passwords changed?

I also had my NCSoft master account details changed on me as well.  I havnt used the account in 3-4 months and havnt recieved or clicked on any phishing emails so it doesnt seem as though it would be something from my doing.

There also seems to be alot of threads on NCSoft accounts getting hacked recently so it seems like something is deffintly wrong there.

    They might.

A gamer friend of mine recently got a message stating that someone tried to change the account. He didn't touch the links but instead went to NC's site, was able to log in and changed his passwords. he then sent NC a message reporting the experience.

Logged into the game, talked with one of our other game friends, logged out and then later that evening tried to log in again and got a message that he was banned.

So I'm not sure what is going on.

Actually I only got mails that my guild wars accounts (have 3) have been changed not my master account (With seems to be blocked now) that is what I find odd.

Phishers have started spamming people with fake emails about game account problems. They put links in the email which then direct the user to their websites.

The mail is legit (might be phising) but it is your standard password change mail only with an mail adress (with is an mail adress and not some secret link) and for the rest no links. Then again the phishers and sometimes rather dumb :P

For a few months now NCSoft has been trying to get a handle on bad accounts on Guild Wars.  They have deleted over 3,000 acounts or so.  You guys might have been caught up in that.  All my NCSoft stuff is fine.

NCSoft has had problems ever since they allowed "botting" through their botting services for Lineage and that opened the door to what we call gold spammers / sellers.

So from my point of view ,NCSoft can close down all togheter , I won't shed a tear for them.

Those that play and support NCSoft needs to do their homework and stop supporting the company.

With that said , Enjoy your sunday.

2 weeks ago I had a problem on my account where the stuff on my character had all changed. Possibly hacked I guess, but this wasn't clear to me.

I immediately told NCSoft something was wrong and they told me they would suspend my account until I could prove it was mine. This seemed okay, and I have sent them what they asked for. Since then they have not replied to a single one of my emails and my access has not been returned.

I find this all ludicrous since I've been playing their game for a year.

If you read this you clearly don't know me. You'll prabably think there is no smoke without fire. I can assure you I've never cheated on the account or bought gold or used bots; I'm also pretty sure I've not been phished. In fact I spend too much time moaning about cheaters and hackers cos they drive me mad.

I realise this is probably an over-used cliche here, but I'll not be buying NCSoft again.

I've had no email from NCsoft, and no problems with my GuildWars account.

You do know that happens in other games as well and not just NCSoft games right?  I mean if everyone stopped supporting games that had botting in them and the companies that distribute these games what would everyone play?  What homework do you suggest everyone do before they play a NCSoft game?

    Doesn't surprise me.

My friend's Aion account got hacked as well, and he's definitely not a RMT'er, nor botter/cheater, etc.

Seems the RMT have possibly stepped up their efforts and are getting more aggressive... all the while lazy individuals keep supporting them by giving them business.

That said, NC has been extremely weak on the RMT front for years. They let RMT pretty much dominate the market in L2, last I played Aion - despite NCs insistance it was taken care of - I still saw bots everywhere, received frequent RMT spam and saw them sitting right outside the bank area in one of the cities (forget the name of the city... on the Elyos side) with their signs up advertising, in broad-daylight, not even trying to be inconspicuous... all day long.

Regardless, I'll have to check my NC account to make sure all is cool there.

Just the same type phishing attempts that anyone who's ever played WOW, never played WOW or merely has an email address have been receiving for (but not limited to) Blizzard/Battle.net accounts for at least a year now. Sometimes 2-4x a day. As many times as it has been reported ..seems odd that it's still a topic of mystery.

  • ShadowStyleBShadowStyleB Member UncommonPosts: 315

Well there are people who will push as long as these companies try to keep them out of their games.  I just find it funny that people don't believe this happens anywhere else.  It happens in WoW alot and they haven't done much to stop it.  I have had 2 friends get their accounts hacked on Blizzard so that they can be used for RMT.

Yes a phising attempt that included emails without links and a blocked main account. What happen to me is not a phising attempt and would have not made a thread if what happened to me did not happen at the same time as there main website is down. Just found that a coincidence and was wondering if it really was a coincidence or that the NCsoft server was hacked or simply bugged (just sending out password changed emails)

The email I received was not a phishing email it was a valid email from NCsoft stating my password was recently change.  The email address was not ghosted and the link in the email pointed to the correct spot.  That being said I never click on links in emails even when they are from people I know.

So when I went to the NCSoft via typing it my browser window I could not log into my account so obviously the password had been changed.

What I find extremely arrogant of you, but not surprising given mmorpgs forum base is that you can assume without any evidence other then you making a guess that these emails were phishing attempts.

I get the same WoW  and other phishing emails as you and everyone else on the internet 3-4 times a week and honestly they are easy to spot.  The Broken English language the links that point to other sites are usually a dead give away...

The scammers get better every day with the bogus emails. It has nothing to do with the company itself. I see tons of em from Blizzard, NCsoft, Turbine, etc. and the only ones that are legitimate relate to communication I initiated with customer service. Everything else has been a cleverly disguised scam to get me to click on the link in the email. NEVER click on any link in an email or believe anything you receive via email. Just go to your account management for that company on your own to see if anything was changed.

That's funny, because I just changed my password with NCSoft and received a confirmation email with no link within. Are you sure you have your facts straight?

i was hacked two times  in Gw, and im sure that the problem is NCSoft.

They banned me 4 days ago for RMT.........................................i  logged in GW for first time since February, all chars were  without stuff or gold, i sent a ticket to NCsoft and they banned me.............amazing...........................seems that with NCSoft ,Crime Pay.

And they never return the stuff, so , instead of help players they are helping hackers.....................................................

I also want to add that most MMO companies will lock your account after a certain amount of attempts have been made in guessing your password. So going to your account and being locked out with your old password doesn't mean someone got in and changed it. That's just another ploy they use in combination with that email to make it look that way.

I have a similar problem. I tried logging into my master account and it said it was permanently blocked. I havent subscribed to anything for 2 years. I never got an email.  Dunno what the deal is. Im trying to get it back.

Hahaha last time i tried to log into NCSOFT to purchase something ,  my internet security didn´t allow me , saying its was a virus worm infected site.

Guess they are having major problems .

    Explains the warning .

Doubt that explains your warnings.  Your security setup must be set to max.

NCSoft is a problem, period. In the last two months I've put in about five tickets and see the same GMs responding to them, so it seems like not only do they have security issues (cf. the article here) but a GM staff that is so small it is almost not fair to point out that they are doing a poor job -almost. To be perfectly honest, I have a ticket that took two months to respond to and is still open without any hint of a resolution. Yes, it seems that NCSoft is eager to only handle account and tech support issues and then between the hours of 12-5pm CST. We can also look at the false advertisement for AION, a launch that shouldn't have happened with a company with multiple MMORPGs and 10 years of MMORPG experience under its belt, and the need to consolidate servers after one year of a localised launch (e.g. not the initial launch but a new one in a different 'area'). Then there's Tabula Rasa, oh is there Tabula Rasa.

Does NCSoft have problems? Yes, yes it does, and we should all be praying that they don't fuck up Guild Wars 2. ArenaNet and the rest of us don't deserve that.

(1)TL:DR must be your way of saying that thinking hurts. Then again, this may explain why it looks like you responded to the post without using your brain.
    (2) It's not about community, is it? You just have nothing better to do.
