ok i got the game running on lowest specs and its not smooth at all. My question is what would be the most cheap thing to upgrade on my system? Im broke but i can run every other game just fine.
Windows XP 32bit
Core2 duo 2.80GHz
4gig ram
Geforce 9500GT 1gig model
got an ok motherboard

Your computer should run the game fine. There's currently a major bug with nvidia and ati cards (well, what other cards are there? lol) that makes the game run like complete garbage. People with older ATI cards are having their GPU literally reaching 84C and melting.
Wait until they fix the problem and see how it works then.
I hope your right. If all else fails i can allways wait for the ps3 verson to come out.
I found the game runs better when i use my ps3 controller in place of the mouse and keyboard.
LOL?
Well, the only thing you could upgrade without too much hassle is the video card. Nothing too expensive, probably a GTX 200 series, anything more will waste your money because your CPU will bottleneck it.
He who keeps his cool best wins.
I think the bottom recommended card was something ilke a Geforce 9600 GT, or a better option the 9800 GT? For nvidia cards anyways.
your processor should be good i think at low settings, as the minimum recommended is a Core Duo 2.0Ghz
I guess you could try upgrading yoru video card, but make sure your power supply can supply enough power to them.
No idea if your OS might impact the performance or not =s
If u decide to upgrade the Video card and dont mind if u have an Nvidia or ATI card than it would be best to wait till October the Prices for ATI cards will drop than (since the 6xxx series is supposed to launch short time after) if u can afford it go for a 5870 but if its too expansive a 5770 should offer more than enough power as well (got about 5k points with a 5770 on low running the Benchmark test)
Oh. Just saw that.
Upgrade to 64-bit. Why are you using 4gigs of ram with 32-bit? This'll help a ton.
Yeah. Some beta testers had to use the oven technique to revive their cards.
(I know. It sounds like I'm being a troll, but I'm not. SE did change something with phase 3 that's destroying GPUs, and using your oven to revive a dead GPU does work... Just becareful when doing it and use proper instructions.)
Its your card bro for sure. Whats your PSU like? If it can run a 9500gt it can run many 9800GT but going up to a GTS/X 200 series would be a better upgrade and if you have some real money to spend you can go up to the 400 series. Its up to you but you wont need a big upgrade to play it on "OK" settings.
I heard from beta testers (completely second had knowledge) that some ATI cards are suffering with this game I am not sure at all if this is true if any1 would like to confirm.

I have a high end machine and thought it was running bad, setting to low settings did not help, i then dumped the keyboard and mouse and used a game pad and it was smooth as, so in the end i put it down to the fact that mouse control was implemented very badly.
Playing: FFXIV
Future: wishing for SWG 2, World of Warcraft Classic
Played: Most current and extinct MMO's - 18 Years in....
Interesting Fact - I own 27 Tarantula's
Oh god, that means Mouse Control has no hardware Support...welcome to the 80's!
I hope they get their shite straight before September. As far as I am concerned FF13 was a over-produced POS. It this one is a train-wreck as well, I fear for the future of the Final Fantasy Franchise.

It's your graphics card thats crap.
The GeForce 9500GT just can't handle FFXIV very well.
It's a low performance budget card.
All those memories will be lost in time, like tears in the rain.
9500 GT has 8.8 billion texure fill rate
9600 has 20.8 billion texture fill rate
9800 has 33.6 billion texture fill rate
Thats a huge differance, I wouldnt even bother with the 9600 and most definatly not the 9500
The 8800 GT also has 33.6 billion texture fill rate
I would buy the 8800 GT before I even bought the 9500 or 9600. Dont let the model numbers fool you, look up the specs of the card before buying at www.nvidia.com
Here, I did some homework for you.
Texture fill rate/sec, I would get the highest fill rate you can with as much ram on the card as you can for your budget.

This is the best site Ive seen comparing cards and it's all based on benchmarking, not marketing or other BS that people believe.
The bare minimum that you would want is a score of around 900(8800GT, 9600GT), you're 9500GT scores in the 300s it looks like.
Hey hey! My link is spreading! Yay.
Also, you REALLY need to upgrade from 32bit to 64bit Windows 7
He who keeps his cool best wins.
^This.
Upgrade to 64-bit (Windows 7) before you do any other upgrades.
The beta only seems to use two cores, no matter how many you have, of your cpu. So you're fine with the cpu you have. If the uncapping of your RAM doesn't help with the windows upgrade, then replace your GPU.
maybe u should upgrade your graphics card
and go for windows 7 (64Bit version)
Wow I'm amazed that some of the 6 series even beat this card, prolly time for me to get a new card haha.
@OP before you spend any money I would suggest waiting till they have the sheer amount of technical problems out of the way so you can see how your PC performs on the actual game.
game was unplayable since alpha.. and thats almost half year ago now.. if you think it will get much better in another month till release your in for some shock.. sli still doesnt work..
Hey does anyone know if FFXIV will have both 32-bit and 64-bit clients?

FFXIV will run multicore whether it's 32 or 64 bit CPU and OS or not.
WoW64 really doesn't hurt performance much at all, and generally changing the game code to accomodate 64-bit is more for functionality than performance (e.g. store larger numbers, along with addressing more RAM to a single program should one ever actually need that much...)
While supporting 64bit natively is not a bad thing in the slightest, having to rewrite some code to support it is likely not worth the cost/time investment on SE's part given the low benefit. This is why 64-bit adoption took so long. Until recently, only servers ever really needed more RAM than a 32 bit system supports.
