Dang I thought it was strange no one had posted it yet. I was a minute late with /postmessage. hehe
Fantastic looking - dark and deathly what I would expect. Interesting no wise cracks from a necro. Maybe the minions screaming in agony as they burst from the inside is enough.
The ease with which predictions are made on these forums: Fratman: "I'm saying Spring 2012 at the earliest [for TOR release]. Anyone still clinging to 2011 is deluding themself at this point."
Necro was my favourite in GW so very pleased to see it return in GW2, my only disappointment is that you don't need corpses to raise your minions in GW2, doesn't make sense to my inner necro.
Loved the videos, Putrid Explosion stands out, it's a great piece of video work, creates a great atmosphere and the Charr looks epic in it's ornate leather bondage version of the necro blindfold. I almost felt sorry for the minions. The use of the dark and atmospheric audio creates a great atmosphere.
Marks are something new, seems like we get our own little traps to play with In the Doom video the Asura looks as if it's fearing the mobs in to a Mark.
Skill effects for the preceeding AoE to Lotus Swarm and the skill itself are heaven.
The fear is probably a very short duration. About the same time it would take you to recover from a knockdown it would take you to recover from a fear. Also as stated before it is a condition so it will be dispellable.
The only thing I don't like is the Fear condition they introduced. I have my worries about that...
Its dispellable...
Doesn't make me feel any better.
You should trust Anet on this one. The balancing in GW1 was the best I've ever seen in a MMO. Fear will probably be the same as knockdown, for example instead of being rooted/stunned you randomly walk around for 3 sec.
I also have my doubts about a fear mechanic. There's still far too little we know about it of course...casting time, cooldown, duration, immunity timers, mana cost, etc., but the lack of info is what will fuel the speculation. We also have to consider if any secondary effects use fear, or any wells, or marks, and how you could chain them together to create a swath of WoW-warlockesque time where you do not control your character. Should be less time than a knockdown since you are actively moving away from the necro.
Other than that concern, it does indeed feel that the Necromancer will have multiple ways to restore health, and so far seems to me to be the class most proficient at healing.
Seems Fear lasts for 2 secs and has a 20 sec cool down. Probably only useful for saving your ass or moving an enemy into an AoE. Not much difference to a knock back.
No idea what other skills use gather but I wouldn't think that many.
They are still tinkering with the mechanics of fear. In fact you could say that for all of the abilities, so remember that before going off the boil on some of the stuff in the game.

@TriggerSad We're still trying to figure that out currently its like max 2-5s PvE and like 2s PvP but we gotta play it a lot to get it right
I'm interested to see how the necro's abilities can combine w/ other classes. Perhaps grasping dead through a firewall ;P. The fear into AoE is obvious, but quite useful. I wonder if there's anything u can do w/ the locust swarm, given that it seems to be a VERY short range. Did anyone notice the unholy feast in that video? (AoE bite skill, steals health from GW1). Pretty awesome.

Yeah pretty cool. I think finding out all of the cross class combinations will be one of the real fun parts of the game. Kind of like experimenting with build combinations in the first game.
Putrid Explosion was probably my favorite skill video. The sounds from it came right out of a horror film.

To me it seems they're setting the necro up to be a very durable character. With the dead shroud ability and lifesteals and all the other things. My guess this would be the ability vs melee. See if they can kill the necro before the swarm eats them. So more of a defensive skill to scare melee opponents away.
I'd say that to kill a necro you either need to do it fast or last. Anything inbetween and he'll steal enough life or get enough life force to stick around anyway and watch you waste your time while his allies kill him.

I believe fear will work like Pacificism or Amity in PvP. In PvE it will make enemies run away but when they take damage it turns off.
On a different note, my character for GW Prophecies was a necro, I believe you say his great great great grand daughter in that last skill video of grasping undead.
Finally a class I can get behind. Those were very impressive vid snips. Loved the mobs reaction to Locust Swarm was like running in to someone with horrid BO.
GW1's necromancer didn't give me that feeling but in GW2 the necromancer is giving me that feeling. I'm kind of a goth-punk-emo so Necro is the one for me. Necro, Sin or Elementalist

Heh, I've posted a thread litterally within about 15 sec at most as another person on GW2G.
Anyways, I decided to pop over here and see if anyboyd had posted, I didn't, so I did.
And yea, the skills look truly frightening, and those little minions, their screams will lull me off to sleep tonight. Embrace death!

Those videos are officially the coolest thing I've ever seen. Bad ass!
Main hand dagger
Off hand dagger...
Now i really need to try a dual wielding mellee Necromancer .... I just have to see if this is possible...

I think it might mostly cast with the daggers, kind of like the ele.

Pretty cool videos as always. The reveal feels a bit anticlimactic though. And that's due to the fact that we have already seen the necro in action.
The necromancer certainly has an interesting skill set.
What's more, look at the examples given:
Well of Blood, for example, applies a regeneration boon to all allies within it.
Mark of Blood damages enemies while placing a regeneration boon on nearby allies.
Maybe a Necro build will offer one of the alternative Support roles that can replace the healer role?

Also wondering how much crowd controll the Necro has packed to turn intoo the ultimate support role....
Grasping dead seems like some kind of root (if not it shall atleast be a snare effect)
Doom is a fear effect..
What more shall there be?

Fear had me hiding behind my chair =p
I don't really see any problem with fear, it's just a disable that moves you. You can't dispel knockdown so it seems pretty balanced on paper.
I like how it specifically fears away from the necro, so you can set up combos with it.
Honestly wasn't expecting necro, so this is interesting. I wonder what the last scholar class will be.

My bet is on a mesmer. Proof? Ghosts of Ascalon and it almost epitomizes the gameplay ideals in GW.
