It sounds like a good idea. I am willing to try and it see how it works. I love how people continuously cry about getting something different, and when they get something different, they cry about that too.
XIV is just so rad and special. I think long-term it's uniqueness will be what makes it stand out.
Sweet news, sounds like I will have a lot less folks that are gonna be complaining non stop playing this game. Maybe they are doing this just for the FF fans to weed the complainers!

So you admit FF players lack the ability to think for themselves?
It's so obvious now.
Hey eburn... what mmo do you play? Just curious cause you sure spend a lot of time talkin sh** about FF14 and its fans... I just want to know cause im sure its flawless and you prob developed it since your so smart.
The games I'm currently playing? Well you're a fan, it's obvious. I'd never make such a dipfuck claim in saying that they're flawless, but for what I pay for I get to access them and play how I choose to without making excuses for the company.
lol, you think your playing how you want, all your doing is playing how those developers decided your allowed to play, which just happens to be differnet from how these developers allow you to play.
Apparently stating the truth in my sig is "trolling" Sig typo fixed thanks to an observant stragen001.
I wonder how many would prefer it if the game had no fatigue system but the xp gain was 20-25% of what it is without fatigue now. That's pretty much the alternative if they want the same rate of progression through areas as the current one. The only people who would be able to progress faster with such a system are those that grind more than 10-12 hours per day on average.
Its not healthy to play 4-5 hours per day. So why should MMO games promote such gamestyle? Its about time I would say.
It's not healthy to smoke either. I dunno where you live, but here in america we value freedom. I'm free to smoke and play video games 12 hours a day if I want.
That is just wrong. You are paying to play the game and devs are pretty much saying you can't play for more than this amount of time per month. Couple of months ago I wish waiting for this game and now it is just turning out to be shit. Darn.
Currently playing: N/A Retired from: GW, WAR, Aion, LOTRO, Rift, SW:TOR, Vinductus
What's ever stopped them in the past? Other people leveling faster?
Yes. If the endgame difficulty is designed with powergamers in mind, then it becomes inaccessable to those who prefer a more casual pace. If you pace advancement to let everyone achieve max level, then powergames essentially flash over the leveling game without living in it and you end up having to add tiers upon tiers of endgame content at the level cap. The entire casual-vs-hardcore debate is essentially angst that the other end of the playing intensity bell curve is wasting developer resources. So to me, the focus is on adjusting the pitch and speed of the treadmill for each customer rather than blaming everyone for the consensus treadmill not going at your desired speed/intensity.
Seein the world from my window (like everyone i guess) and being a casual player in family, this idea is good imo. It'll prevent having too much gap between people, and it'll force no lives to actually do something else than mashing their keyboard, like, for example, go out, see other human beings (not poking em on Facebook), have a drink or two, watch a movie and study those damn exams that will seem much easier that way
I think that MMORPG overdose is a matter of public health and should be therefore controled.
Now FFXI was a game where lvl diff didn't matter much, as the game was released like 1 year later in the west compared to Japan and it was still quite easy n nice to group with Japanese dudes, FFXIV should be a lil bit in the same way.
You're a Hardcore Survivor!
You not only survived the zombie apocalypse, but did it with style! Your mastery of zombie knowledge, survival tactics, and weaponry is nearly unmatched. Congratulations, for you are hardcore!
one thing i really need to get off my chest (this may just be me misinterpreting what they are saying)
people keep saying things like "OMG i can only play for 8 hours this system sucks" ok the system isn't time based like that. SE have estimated that the time it takes to get to the cap for 100% xp to take about 8 hours of solid killing, there is also the roughly 7 hours after where you get less and less xp which aparently recharges over time.
now that that is out of the way i feel the system is kind of like the sub job system from FFXI, you spend so much time leveling your main but when you need a new sub or your current sub becomes underleveled then you need to stop leveling your main and level the sub.
in this game you can mix the skills between classes which is basicly why i look at it in that way, someone who levels all the melee classes will be more versatile and have more skills to bring to a team
It's a little too complex, and I am not sure if this will penalize me or help me. I am thinking it is probably the latter. The thing is, I don't need or want extra help, and I have no desire to force my playstyle on others. I don't really understand that menality at all, this it doesn't affect me or screw the hardcore gamer attitude. It's just unfortunate, truly unfortunate to see that from the FF crowd.

I'm not sure where I said the game being a success would hurt me, though I'm fairly certain that they're losing far more players than they're gaining by putting this mechanic in. I had pre-ordered it with high hopes; however, this particular game mechanic has made me decide not to. In any case, voting with my wallet is the only option I have that has any meaning.
It is hillarious some people are claiming that Square Enix isn't going to let them play 8 hours straight.

Hahaha, how little you know about Square Enix. Big difference between this system and putting anytype of actual limitation on hardcore players.
I about doubled over at the "In America we value freedom part" and then comparing it to smoking (which is discouraged, which is taxed, which is prohibited in many public places in America) wow way to overshoot and miss by a mile. The funniest thing is your comparison is pretty accurate without you even intending it to be since while Square doesn't want to promote this activity it is still allowing you to play 24 hours a day if you want.
You are complaining about a system for gaining skill points they have put into their game, and confusing it with your freedoms because you don't understand how either system works (freedoms, or surplus).
I have to say, this thread has given me more laughs today. I have not read one post that has any reasonable argument against this fatigue issue, most are just ludicrous to the extreme.
What is the big deal? The developers make the game, if you don't like their rules, go play another one. Coming here whining because the devs have rules you don't like just makes you look really silly. Your freedom is to choose to play or not play the game, the devs set the rules, they don't have to abide by your preferences. This is no different than any game.
Evidently if this fatigue issue bothers you, it obviously is not the game for you to play. So stop the moaning and move on. Personally I think this feature will attract players rather than discourage them.
Great system, very pleased with SE. Your physical level will be capped after 15 hours for the week, yes. However, your skill level with specifics classes will not be. Once your physical level hits the 50 cap, you should have several classes leveled and all the skills you need to be successful in endgame.
15 hours X 18 Classes (or however many there are) = Almost impossible in one week, and that's not including how surplus recovers if you spend time away from a specific class...good stuff SE.
Need to wait for a friend to catch up? Why not try getting some resources, or leveling your Blacksmith, or Carpenter, or Goldsmith or Weaver, there is so much to do in this game, these "limitations" aren't going to mean much to someone like me who enjoys everything a game has to offer from story to crafting, to gathering, to combat, to economy etc.... not to mention, while you wait, you aren't getting left behind by everyone else!
Everyone, THIS is the game, these limitations are apart of this game, they are a "feature", "system", "limitation" or however you want to put it, but it's here, so it's time to decide, do I stay and complain, do I leave to another game, do I wait for another game or should I just shut up, try the game and see how things go. Make your decisions cause these comments are getting old, including ones like mine.
I have to say, this thread has given me more laughs today. I have not read one post that has any reasonable argument against this fatigue issue, most are just ludicrous to the extreme.

I'm not really for or against the thing until I see it myself, but your attitude on the subject is exactly what I was referring to earlier in this thread. Using your logic, I can say the exact same thing about the fatigue issue; not a single, reasonable argument for it to be in place in the form in which you assume it is.
Really though, the funnier part is that you're here arguing that people "stop the moaning and move on", but why? I can only conclude that you support the system as it is, and are looking forward to playing FFXIV yourself. That being the case, you're lobbying as best you can for people to shut up and leave things alone in hopes that they won't change. Well, that's tough because SE will, as folks like yourself say, do what they want to do, so what difference does it make? This is a forum for discussion after all, and I'd imagine it'd be pretty boring if all anyone ever replied with were "Yup, I agree! Looks great!" to every thread.
The funniest part of all, however, is all the laughs you've gotten out of this thread today. While I agree - there are some incredibly ignorant responses here that are quite laughable - your stance doesn't really scream "HAHA!" but instead "omg shut up and leave mah game alone!". As for the feature drawing more than it would detract; take a look around at a few places other than just MMORPG.com to see the response. While it's only a small portion, if you go to FFXICore, you'll see that of the 902 member votes counted (when I looked), a whopping 109 people (12.08%) are actually in favor of it staying at all, vs. 764 people (84.7%) who disagree with it either entirely, or its implentation at the present time. The leftover is simply "other". That's just one site - the first after I google'd it - amongst many others with similar results on the subject, and there is quite the large percentage who likely won't play if it's too restricting.
On top of all that, telling people to essentially "just shut up" isn't exactly a good or tactful approach. How about explaining the benefits of such a system, rather than alienating more people yourself?

I'd like to see SE implement this garbage system into FFXI they would surely lose a crap load of gamers from both sides if this went into effect for XI. Ive said it before on another XIV forum site and I'll say it again here. This is like pouring a glass of water then pouring out half of it , then pouring half the amount back in or a little less. Its a wasteful system for checks and balances for my memory (in my pc to have to deal with) when they could just simply lower the xp gains from quests mobs etc.

All lowering xp gains from quests and mobs will do is make it harder to level and turn the game into even more of a grind fest. The system is supposedly there to make it easier for casual players to keep up with hardcore players while making it harder to hit the cap within a week or so.
Bunch of morons complaining about this. The only way you can decently consider yourself competitive at this game is by training at least 3 different combat skills, a collection skill and a crafting skill. Those are 5 different classes with 8 hours for training EACH before fatigue hits in. 40 hours a week, right there, before fatigue even becomes an issue. And this is without including questing, purchasing items, or actually talking to people outside of battle.
If people are too stupid to figure out that grinding one class endlessly IS NOT THE PROPER WAY TO PLAY THIS GAME then they really need to go back to WoW.

I though the physical level capped at 15 hours per week. Meaning that you only get 60 hours of productive gameplay per month??
