Gamescom Beta Codes Guarantee Access

Gamescom Beta Codes Guarantee Access

In the last Rift newsletter, it was mentioned that fans who attended Gamescom would be able to grab some sort of code that would grant them a chance to enter beta. Well, a video from Gamescom has confirmed that it is not simply a chance, it is a full invitation. Details have not yet emerged regarding when the beta will begin, or what stage of beta these codes are for, but they are guaranteed to eventually allow access.

There has been some controversy regarding this, as seen in this thread, but I am neither surprised nor disappointed at this turn of events. Firstly, it is nice to reward fans who showed up and supported Trion and Rift. Granted, many fans would have loved to have gone to Gamescom, but due to where they live or their obligations it was simply unfeasible. Secondly, marketing is part of a successful product, and Trion is out to make a successful product. Granting beta access to show off their game and build hype is a key component of this marketing strategy, so of course they are going to do things like this.

Ultimately, some lucky fans at an event getting beta access is nothing I would get ruffled about. Besides, with many ways to get beta access, I think a lot of fans will end up very happy.

The codes that were handed out at GamesCon on the floor were chances at beta. The event you see in the video in Sornin's article is from a community party made up primarily of official forum members. THOSE attendees, not the Gamescon floor traffic, were given guarantee beta codes. If you look at the detailed pictures of the cards handed out to the floor traffic it states a chance at beta.

What Cindy did at the small meeting of Community folks was basically upgrade their cards to a certain state.
