Thre launcher is stupidly slow, never finds any remote connections, and onyl gets 6 local connections at most, with a speed of 2kb/s I'll be done by the time the retail version roles out. . .

Any torrent that works faster than this bs?

How the hell do you pronounce Gotye?

After being through all the crap with downloading the client via utorrent etc., i now encounter another problem with the patcher/installer: As long as the patcher/updater is running, i can't start any other visual media like clips on youtube or even movies from my harddisk.

Music works, but as soon as i start any videos, my system locks up and i have to hardreset it. I lost a whole partition this way last night and had to restore it with testdisk. W 7 64 here, patcher is run in w2000 compability mode.

The client will not install on windows XP 64bit.

Not enough free disk space. Installation requires %dGB of free space on the drive containing the My Documents folder. The installation wizard will now end.

I found an informative post here, copied from the forums:
    http://www.ff14news.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=400

I have provided the explanation in other threads. I suppose it would be wise to post the information here though, since this thread is more likely to be read by others.

    Here was the post:

"The reason that the installer won't run on XP x64 is because the x64 edition is not Windows XP, it's actually Windows Server 2003. The service pack requirement is not the main issue with the installer check, since it's the kernel and OS version that are entirely different. Regular XP x86 (32-bit) runs the NT5.1 kernel, while 2003/XP x64 runs the NT5.2 kernel. The installer is hard-coded to look for OS version 5.1.2600.5512 (that's the version of XP SP3) while XP x64 users would have 5.2.3790.3959 with SP2 installed. Also, given the hard-coded values that the installer looks for, I would imagine that people running Media Center versions of XP, as well as anyone running Windows 2K3, would have the same installation problems.

Incidentally, the fact that XP x64 is actually just 2K3 (minus server features) with the XP theme slapped onto it, is also the reason for most of the "compatibility" issues that arise when using XP x64. Most people assume that the issues are because of 64-bit capabilities, while it is almost always due to programs not being tested on Windows 2K3.

In any event, it's pretty simple to allow some extra version numbers into the installer check, so there's no reason why they can't add "support" to the Windows 2K3 variants (including XP x64)."

    Solutions:

Since Microsoft never seems to update the "compatibility mode" OS list, users of 2K3 variants have no options to run XP 32-bit emulation with specific service packs, so installers that are hard-coded for certain service packs can't be bypassed with this method. Fortunately, the MS Application verifier can be used to manually add a compatibility layer.

Another way to get around this is to install the game on a computer with a different OS, even 1 that doesn't have the hardware requirements (like an old laptop), then copy the installation folder over to your XP x64 or 2K3 system, get your patches, and start playing.

It doesn't make sense that they'd lock down the installer, since these OS versions have the same 3D capabilities as XP and the alpha worked fine on them. I just hope the release version doesn't suffer from the same, pointless limitations.

I used app verifier to hook GetVersionEx but this didn't help the problem like the post suggested. The error remains and the installer won't pass the disk space check, even when running ffxivsetup.exe under different compatibility modes. I can't be certain appverif is actually even hooking the process, since it won't produce any logs. Also, the bare formatting string in the error message suggests there might be something else going wrong besides the OS check.

I have yet to hear of anyone getting the client to install under xp64.

It looks like the download is going to take about 30 hours using the official launcher, I'm at 55% after 6 hours on the first patch. I tried torrenting and inputting the patches manually but that didn't work on my system for some reason. I'm cool waiting a couple days with this mess of a patcher for a beta but I'll be damned if I'm gonna put up with it at launch. Hopefully it will just install from the dvd and any patches that have to made will be finished in a reasonable timeframe.

I went out for a cigar, came back to give it another shot, and it worked. Download is going to take a bajillion hours, but whatever. If it sucks my bandwith too much I'll just play Mass Effect 2 or Hellgate London.

    Downloader/Updater

Very slow - experiencing what alot of others are with download speeds around 2kb/s. However, opening the torrent files located in the documents setting folder in Utorrent/flashget and similar programs downloads alot faster.

    Client

Really slow to start, long loading screens, occasionally sticking to a black screen with just music in the background, cutscene's - slow to load. UI really slow to use, changing graphics settings helped but didn't eliminate the lag. Graphics overall look nice, not encountered any wierd things happening there. Fullscreen and Alt+Tab results in directX cannot be found errors, killing the client. Infact I only managed to go fullscreen once, all tries after that and it constantly gave me directx cannot be found errors.

    Gameplay

With the UI lag it is hard to target and cast skills, often resulting in death at the start. Find it highly confusing to start off with no tutorials (not having played FF series for a number of years now). Certain glitches involved with targetting mobs, resulting in invalid target errors. General FPS lag (on a pretty decent system) does add to the annoyance of playing in 'glue'.

This seems more like an alpha. >_>

A few days ago I saw a thread on how to optimize utorrent for downloading the patches, but I haven't been able to find it since. Does anyone know what to do to increase the download speed?

I was looking for torents but couldn't come up with anything. So I went to bed and this morning I look at the default installer progress and by the time its done downloading the OB will be over.

So I farted around in the files and saw all the uTorrent files. I booted them all up and in one minute they were all done besides the 4.7gB folder; that's now downloading at 980 k/s. So I'm going to go out fishing for an hour, come back, and it should be done. =D

    User>My Documents>My Games> Final Fantasy XIV Beta Version > downloads >ffxiv-beta

Find that folder, rummage through the folders for torrent files. one will be for a several gig file, grab that first and the rest in sequence and so on. The beta will be over by the time you finish downloading the client with their horrible updater. It can take upwards of 15min to download a 4mb patch through that POS.

  • supermike27supermike27 Member Posts: 24

wow a new patch this morning and its taking me 10 secs to get to 94% then it disconnects all downloads but by god ill share my upload to a bunch of people and im uploading 1mb/s what a joke. Just finish the stupid things only 6% left.

  • MysilMysil Member Posts: 11

Thanks for the help bro. I found the folder your talking about, i have two folders inside the ffxiv-beta.... bca2a8ae, and d96437e6. I have looked in both of them however their are only a few utorrent files and none are even close to a gig. Any ideas?

  • MysilMysil Member Posts: 11

I downloaded all the utorrents I found in those two folders. The second one had 8 of them so I figure thats the 8 patches I need. Now where do I extract them to??

  • SilokSilok Member UncommonPosts: 732

Im sure im not the only one, im stuck at 94.8% on today patch, so now i downloading it with torrent.

Edit: Here we go took me 2 minutes to get the patch this way..

  • jehkahn12jehkahn12 Member UncommonPosts: 14
