There will be no Wow killer. Just like Wow weren't the EQ killer.
This is just one of the games that has the chance to take the torch as Wow slowly fades to a small game for retro fans like EQ is today. The only thing the charts prove is the fact that the game has gotten the interest of the players and that in itself is good and probably say that this game will at least sell as well as the first game but from that decide that it will force Blizzard to close down Wow is just a fantasy.

Its year 2010, and even year 2011 for couple of months, and i still cant believe that even nowadays someone is dreaming that WoW will die or something like that. I mean, even Meridian 59 and Realm Online are alive today, despite the fact that they have playerbase of around 500 still loyal players.
However, i think that these "WoW Killer" threads became more matter of trolling than they are matter of anything else :P
Main MMO at the moment: Guild Wars 2 Waiting for: Pathfinder Online
We need a filter that blocks any comment that contains a WOW, followed by a killer. An added bonus would be an immediate ban after.
So if a news item was posted about a WoW playing serial killer on his way to Malickie's house, you'd be blissfully unaware.

Nothing will kill WoW. The circumstances that lead to WoW's massive and frightening levels of popularity cannot be duplicated any more. It is possible that another Blizzard game cannibalizes WoW, but that would take an almost intentional stupidity on Blizz's part. (note: I haven't played WoW in many many years).
I do admit, though, that GW2 is looking impressive, and has many of the things I am looking for in an MMO.

Ignorance is the beginning of the downfall....
Arrogance like adding no new hero classes in your expansion is hte 2nd step...
Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)
A decision like Real-ID around the release of GW2, and Blizzard might have an interesting dynamic event.
But I think many of WoW´s forum-reading community reads the WoW forums, when finished they read the Blizzard forum, after this maybe some Addon things, then some SC2 or Diablo forums... so they will never "escape" to another game outside of the Blizzard franchise.
OH NO! why the hell did u start this topic?! gw2 is the game for itself, it doesn't want to kill anything. WoW and Gw2 are two different games, they cannot be compared. Gw2 has a hype of 8.70 based on only 1400 votes! I didn't play wow and I'm gw fan, but I hate this topics calling out for the fight between wow and gw fans...

Not only that but I know many Wow fans that used to or still play GW on the side. Mostly for the PvP but since GW has no monthly fees they have said it is the perfect alt game.
I wouldn't be the least surprised if many players actually played both Wow and GW2 even if GW2 isn't exactly aiming for the same players.
GW2 will never take raid players from Wow, it isn't that kind of game. Possibly casuals but I wouldn't bet on that either. PvPers on the other hand might move and maybe crafters but it is hard to say until we actually know how the crafting will be.
Some players will move on of course but that happens whenever a new games come out. But I think TOR is aiming a lot more on Wows playerbase, GW2 seems to do it's own thing instead and aim to get fans by itself, not to be a better Wow.
I also have a feeling that GW2 will be a lot harder than Wow and if that is true then most casuals will stay at Wow no matter what, and they are the largest part of Wows population.
Predicting doom or total victory is not a great idea. GW2 is one of the first AAA games coming out after Wow (Together with TOR, FFXIV and possibly Rift). That does not mean it will take over Wows playersbase. GW2 will be large enough even if it just gets GWs playerbase anyways and I think the game is too different to get 10 millions or more players.
It seems to me that Wow will go up against TOR instead, even if the settings are different are those 2 games a lot more similar to eachothers and so is Blizz and Bioware. That doesn't mean that TOR is "the Wowkiller" either but that is for another thread.
Ya, I don't really want GW2 to kill WoW. As many have said already, they are different games. Granted, they have some similarities but still different. Plus, IMHO, WoW is a pretty decent game. I played the trial and could completely understand why so many peeps enjoy it. GW and GW2 are just more my cup of tea. Besides, there is room for more than one MMO in this market and I don't care if the one(s) I play don't happen to be #1.
I see the term WoW-killer bit differently. I see it more like the end of the wow-clone era. Not saying that GW2 is that game, SWTOR without a doubt is NOT that game. There have been few different games already, and more are coming. But nothing has shook the ground yet. I see the wow-killer being the game that wakes the game industry and the investors, that there are other ways to make money in MMO-market.
And next someone comes and points out that it's really an EQ-era...oh well...

Agreed. And I think it would be best for the players if there were 2 or 3 large games instead of a single big one.
Competition isn't bad for the consumers. Do you guys really think ATI and NVIDIA would make such good cards if there only was a single company on the market? I don't think so, now they are forced to invest money and work for the next gen cards instead of doing things more slowly.
Another good example is flight during WW!. At the start planes were really unsafe and had been used in a few recon missions just, at the end of the war they were advanced with, fighters, bombers and armored ground attack planes made of metal (like the Junkers Cl I). For the next 20 years very little happened until WW2.
A MMO war might actually not be a bad idea, it will force the devs to make better and more fun games. As long as Wow is sitting safely on it's throne nothing much will happen.
This is however not a reason why we players should fight and flame eachother, let the devs do the war and we just enjoy the great games it leads to.

GW2 will have the same fate as so "MANY" mmo's realeased these days a hype when released,
and after awhile maybe 6 months, only the hardcore fans stays back.

It'll wither slowly IF better games arise and when Blizzard releases his next-gen MMO.
GW2 will steal some bored Wow players, Swtor will steal others, random x MMO will steal others and so on, but the game will remain the most played MMO for a while....slowly withering untill Blizz releases the next wow.

Every unpublished AAA title of the past 4 years was a Wow killer.
Look at the FF14 forums a mere 6 months ago ...
Look at the FF14 pages 3 weeks before launch ...
Wait till all greedy hands can finally play it.
Next in line SW:TOR and I doubt GW2 could break this circle no matter what.
