    Top was 8.76

I say the game is loosing interest, we need something new to get excited about...

wait when did it reach 8.76? I've never seen it above 8.74.  Anyway expect this game to stay around the 8.60's for a few months since it's not likely for A-Net release anything substanial for a good few months.

The game's not losing interest.  Just the fact that most people who have hyped it are going to and over time there will be people who will come in and de-hype it just because it's at the top.

Stop with the WoW- killing crap. GW2 will be an amazing game, I'm sure, but I'd rather not drag it through that muddy subject. WoW is it's own game, it's an anomaly in the MMO world. It has it's own set of rules / followers, stop trying to judge every new MMO based on whether or not it will destroy WoW.

Disclaimer: A WoW-killer does NOT mean that Blizzard will have to pull the plug on World of Warcraft! And to be honest, you know that's not the case here!

A game that surpasses WoW heavily in subs is what could be called a WoW-killer. Even though the term "killer" is wrongly used ofcourse. ;)

8.7 Hype means a lot of people disappointed.

Can't possibly live up to the hype people are giving it.

    8.73..update the post title pls

I just have to say.. Wow doesn't need to be killed... it will die eventually due to natural causes (metaphorically of course).

I don't think that gw2 should be branded as a wow killer 'cause nobody makes a game to destroy another one... they make it to offer the best possible mmo experience for players. I think that wow will go on for a long time after gw2 goes out.

If anybody posted a simillar comment , sorry , 'cause i didn't have the nerves to read them all :D

Then doesnt it make it impossible for GW2 to be called a WoW-killer. Since GW2 does not use a subscription model its impossible for it to serpass WoW in subscriptions.

It might be able to sell 10 million + copies but it will never achieve that kind of concurrent useage / income.  /if anything WoW will always be ahead of GW2 in that department cause its sold many many times the boxs over what it current subscription could is.

What if 5 million of WoW's player pack up and leave for GW2? Fan of it or not... all I ever hear from WoW players these days are hopes and prayers of some other game coming out and being fun to play so they can quit.

It could happen but very doubtful. Alot of people tend to forget that WoW did not attract just MMO players. Alot of people play WoW because of the lore, because of blizzard, because of the IP that it has created. They are generally just not interested in moving onto another MMO (though there are MMO players that play WoW and always claim they are looking for a better game).

Simple thing is that Blizzard taped into a source that has remained loyal for a fair amount of time now. There have been DOZENS of games that people claimed would take subscriptions away from WoW. Yet there numbers have held strong and really done nothing but grown over the course of time.

Even if GW2 did manage to somehow draw away 5 million customers of WoW (very unlikely since the two games have different different gameplay and art styles too them), If anything I see GW2 finishing off GW1 from all the demos I have seen at different conventions. But like I was saying even if they did tkae 5 million of WoW players that still leaves the WoW side with 7 million+ players (Since you need to factor in that there is going to be a new wave of blood coming into the game and old vets returning for the upcoming expansion).

I just want to cast my vote for 2 terms being never used again: WoW-Killer and WoW-Clone. Both have been used to the point of meaninglessness.   The only thing I know that can kill a game is the Company that provides it to the public by making ill-advised changes.  WoW itself is a hybrid of the games that preceded it, so calling any game that came after it a clone is inaccurate. Just my opinion, but those 2 terms need to go.

    Currently bored with MMO's.

I couldn't agree more. It's like everything is about wow like it is a mother of all mmos -.- WoW is a great game (even though i've never played it, but it must for being so popular), and GW2 is going to be great too. There's no point in discussing which is better.

Well.... yes I believe that most that play WoW will play GW2, I can't think of many gamer types that won't be playing GW2. It is very logical to believe at this point that GW2 may likely even surpass WoW in players....... but there is a key thing you have to keep in mind.

GW2 is going to be buy to play. I would imagine many will play GW2 alongside w/e other MMO they prefer. It's not going to kill off any other MMO because of this. You will have SWTOR players, WoW players, TERRA players, Rift players, DCUO players etc. that all will play those games as well as playing GW2.

GW2 will make it harder for Devs and Publishers to justify to their player base that monthly fee (Meaning games like STO and CO and many others). LotR, DDO and EQ2 have already transitioned or at least have started to transition into a semi form of  free to play model or a semi form of buy to play. But GW2 most likely won't be killing off  any or many MMO's.

If only they would release it, even in open beta. QQ Whaaaaaambulance time.

  • DwigoDwigo Member UncommonPosts: 51

Lol, it's a no subscription game so it will not kill anything. People can just buy the game and still keep paying for their other MMO subscription.

If you can have a better experience playing a free game, why pay subscription for a less fun game?

These whole hype mechanics are unthustworthy, while GW2 is still around 8.73 all other games in development dropped below 8.00 when the big GW2 hype started all top games where around 8.30.  Its vallue is nil...

But, GW2 is still the best and most refreshing game in development.

Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)

Never thought I'd dislike an MMO's community before the game even launched, but GW2 fans have made that happen.

First I hate WoW and wish it wasn't on top. The only thing I hate more is people with no sense of reality that make 100 troll posts about how their game is going to kill WoW. That alone will make me not buy the game so that I do not have to be associated with such people.

Dont hate the fans, hate the ones that start these threads...

I am a GW2 fan and most GW2 fans and I dont care if it will kill wow or not(nor do we believe it will kill it), but some trolls that likes to start these kind of threads.

But please dont come generalizating am entire community because of a few...

Yep, we have had enough of these threads, we need to see more discussion threads on GW2 content that has been released and cool speculation on what is coming next.

There is a new blog up about their cinematics toolbox. Somebody created a thread about it already here so let's go on over!

If you look at these types of threads they are almost always created by people who hardly visit GW2 forums. The other GW will kill wow thread was made by a wow player, not a GW fan. If their plan was turn the community against this game then perhaps that goal is being achieved with you saying this, as an example.

Since I am finding nothing in FF14 to keep me playing, now I guess the only thing I can hope for is GW2 or TOR.  Whichever one comes out first.   Not sure if it's a wow killer, but it isn't gonna help wow out any, that is for sure.

Who gives a crap about Hype or score for that matter. I just have to pay the right persons right amount of money and the  becomes hyped and incredible overall score. Meaning it dont mean shit.

After the last fails on mmos I honestly dont care one bit about the scores or the hype, I will play it and form my own opinion.

It's interesting to note that the OP hasn't posted even once on these GW2 forums except for this thread.

Maybe this thread should be locked down, it doesn't really add anything of value in this forumsection, most GW2 fans don't really care and it only manages to draw in trolls and rants.

The ACTUAL size of MMORPG worlds: a comparison list between MMO's

The ease with which predictions are made on these forums:

Gw2 has a hype of 8.70 based on only 1400 votes! I didn't play wow and I'm gw fan, but I hate this topics calling out for the fight between wow and gw fans...

Not only that but I know many Wow fans that used to or still play GW on the side. Mostly for the PvP but since GW has no monthly fees they have said it is the perfect alt game.

I wouldn't be the least surprised if many players actually played both Wow and GW2 even if GW2 isn't exactly aiming for the same players.

GW2 will never take raid players from Wow, it isn't that kind of game. Possibly casuals but I wouldn't bet on that either. PvPers on the other hand might move and maybe crafters but it is hard to say until we actually know how the crafting will be.

Some players will move on of course but that happens whenever a new games come out. But I think TOR is aiming a lot more on Wows playerbase, GW2 seems to do it's own thing instead and aim to get fans by itself, not to be a better Wow.

I also have a feeling that GW2 will be a lot harder than Wow and if that is true then most casuals will stay at Wow no matter what, and they are the largest part of Wows population.

Predicting doom or total victory is not a great idea. GW2 is one of the first AAA games coming out after Wow (Together with TOR, FFXIV and possibly Rift). That does not mean it will take over Wows playersbase. GW2 will be large enough even if it just gets GWs playerbase anyways and I think the game is too different to get 10 millions or more players.

It seems to me that Wow will go up against TOR instead, even if the settings are different are those 2 games a lot more similar to eachothers and so is Blizz and Bioware. That doesn't mean that TOR is "the Wowkiller" either but that is for another thread.

WHAT!??  Ehm.... I was kind of looking for a new game but....what the heck???

    Are you telling me that:

the minority are the ones who demands me to show up infront of the bank for inspection of my gear. (oh, gearscore was something I had to download obviously)....

the minority are the ones who contiuously asks for rating!?? (hey, what happened to: I'm playing a fantasygame to get away from reallife and you're asking me about rating....? what? )

the minority are the ones who never ever shows up in the world but only stays in the hub-spot looking for group just to get another epic and spits on you if you are asking: "normal mode?" (a beautiful gameworld is nothing but a pain to walk throu to get to the top in rankings I guess?)

the minority are the ones who don't care about story, lore or friendship-ingame but only about getting to the top as soon as possible?

If the so called "casuals" are playing WoW.........I might stay with WoW! And I will be happy if this minority leaves!
