What is your objective in doing so? To let the developers know you don't like it? Im sorry but mmorpg.com is not the place for that. I garuntee the developers don't even read these forums. If you want the developers to hear of your plight on the matter, you need to take that to the proper channels. A 1 on 1 email to them explaining your concerns with their product.

What you ARE trying to accomplish is to steer away potential customers just because you don't like the game. Thats just bad form. We understand its not your cup of tea, but for me, who can't even get into the beta because of no keys atm sitting here wondering if i should cancel my pre-order because of all the complaining is just lame. Im almost certain that i will enjoy the game since i have no problem with using a gamepad and im not naive enough to think that lag is going to be an issue for a lengthy period after launch. If anyone remembers WoW's launch, they would remember loot lag bugs where you remained in a crouching position until you logged off. 2 hour Queue's just to get into the game, and all the free play time they gave to everyone just because their hardware couldn't handle the players logging in and were constantly down. They might be able to "anticipate" the outcome of their mmo, but they just won't know until launch day happens and everyone is logging in that actually bought the game.

SE has always kept things quiet on all their xpac's for FFXI. They never give out too much in their beta's or their press releases. They obviously enjoy keeping players guessing "whats next". And people have liked it. So please. Just keep your opinions in 1 thread. Stop making countless threads after threads about the same thing just because you don't like something about the game.

What disgusts me even more is that the moderators here are allowing it. All these threads are nothing but trolling, and you're supposed to be suspending / warning people for their trolling. But it just seems like you're supporting it. And its disgusting.

My apologies, if I did not read it all - but the gist is clear there.  As a counter, one could state that if you like a game, you do not need to come to the forums and start thread after thread about liking the game.  What is your objective in doing so?  To let the developers know that you like it?  I am sorry, but MMORPG.com is not the place for that...etc, etc, etc.

There are generally two reasons that a huge number of redundant threads appear on the forums:

    1. Vanity.  People believe that what they have to say is so far more important than what has already been said (usually without having read what has already been said).  They hope that by starting a new thread, what they have to say will not get lost in another thread.

    2. Laziness or Carelessness (take your choice).  People simply do not bother to look if there are already threads on the topic before posting.

Granted, there is even the simple case that multiple could start a thread at the same time on the same issue - it happens.

There is no need for you to police the forums.  If you have concerns with them, should you not address them to the mods here?  After all, you have stated in quite the public fashion that they are not doing their jobs...something I am sure they would have preferred you addressed with them in private.

Personally, I think that if you cannot differentiate between people having opinions and people trolling...perhaps the internet is not the place for you.  Kind of odd of you to suggest that you have the right to express an opinion where you chose and as you chose, yet you would seek to have others express their opinons also...as you chose.

On a side-note, yes - it has been annoying as Hell that the front page has been littered with an almost endless scroll of love and hate on a game that I do not give a rat's ass about...yet, this is MMORPG.com and that is what happens as a game nears release and after release.

I miss the MMORPG genre. Will a developer ever make one again?

Judging by your new name, it seems the moderators have been doing their job just fine. Looking at this thread, apparently you consider "discussion" to be "trolling". So sorry you've been disappointed. Want a cookie?

Yes it is.  I'm a PC gamer and I expect games made for the PC to have the mouse/keyboard as the default control scheme.  Its why I don't buy sports or racing games for the PC.  They play better using a gamepad so I play them on my consoles.  Though, I barely use the consoles I have (Wii, 360 and PS3).  If they waned to make it the most playable using a gamepad, then they should have just kept a console title.

I love the whole "get a gamepad and stfu" arguement.

If you are making a game for the PC, a system that uses mouse/keyboard as a standard control scheme, then you should at least try to make your game function flawlessly using that systems standard control devices.

When games made for the PC are ported to a console you don't see the "Get a keyboard/mouse and stfu" crap.

FFXIV controls were designed specifically for console gamers with the PC user as an after thought, which is kinda funny as the game is being released to us first and consoles later....

The game should have been console only at release until they could have managed to make a less frustrating and more PC friendly UI/control scheme.

As for the OP, yeah, fine be disappointed with a community who thinks a PC game should play well with a keyboard/mouse. God forbid we be able to play a PC game without having to purchase a secondary input device (which would most likely only ever be used for that one game seeing as most PC games - ported or not - seem to work well with a keyboard/mouse). And sure, we should all just remain silent when we don't agree with something, because who needs any sort of progress?

That's a bit short sighted isn't it? Lumping everyone into that category when some of us have clearly stated, from having played closed and open beta, more important issues with the game. Like perhaps targeting of mobs and party members, AOE functionality, mob placement, threat mechanics, macros, and poor combat mechanics which leads to no diversity. Some of these can and probably will be alliviated but many seem to be critical gameplay decisions that SE has decided to stick to.

What depth are we talking about besides the obviously beautiful world and crafting? Do any of our actions effect the world? Making basic gameplay mechanics and UI overly complicated does not equate to depth. Artificial barriers does not equate to depth. I'd prefer the dev team spent more time designing fantastically complex and difficult encounters and an in depth political system that effects everything around me with tons of content, than focus so much on beauty.

Ive never seen a single game with a successfull political system, and difficult encounters.. are you forgetting these are thesame guys who made the unbeatable 18 hour raid boss, they got encounters covered, trust me on that one.

the game has a fully player controllers economy, everything you need is crafted by other players supplied by other players,, the market is dictated by players and so forth. The stories in the game are laid out as an adventure with your character in the forefront.

The cities are large and immersive, the zones are as well, and when you explore it feels like you are actually experieicng a world, you feel like you are role playing a character in a new world, rathering then just leveling a toon, grinding  on mobs.

The UI is designed for a gamepad, as such it is overly simplified.. i what about the UI is compliicated for you? Seriously.

I am going to put the shoe on the other foot as they say and ask people to think about a game that is released on the PC first but when released to the platform to play it with any hope of ease of use they make you buy some other piece of hardware, like a keyboard, mouse or even some other controller.  Now how popular would that game be?  I remember this game http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steel_Battalion  I wanted to get this one sooooo bad but was unable to because of the price at the time so am out of luck.  According to wiki it sold just over 15k units in Japan, wow that like not very many but when you think about it I think they are lucky to sell that many.  So in closing I will say that I will buy an addition piece of hardware if I think it will help my game play but not if it seem like the game is making me buy said hardware.  Thin line I know but a distinction none the less.

Gaming not a lifestyle? guess it depends but:

Lifestyle is a term to describe the way a person lives, which was originally coined by Austrian psychologist Alfred Adler in 1929. The current broader sense of the word dates from 1961.[1] A set of behaviors, and the senses of self and belonging which these behaviors represent, are collectively used to define a given lifestyle. The term is defined more broadly when used in politics, marketing, and publishing.

People are not opening thread after thread. The problem is that most people are opening one thread of their own to say that they didn't like it and this is why. Well, it just happens that there is a common theme emerging here. So yes, there is thread after thread on the same topic but its not like we all got together at Chili's last Tuesday to plot how we would slam the game. People simply like throwing their 2 cents into the pot about a given topic. We don't have some master plan to bring down SE. We are simply giving our reviews of this game for our 15 sec of fame on the interwebs and in some cases simply venting because of letdown and frustration. No ebil plots.

One thing that really impressed me about the reading was that every npc says something different. You don't get 6 generic guards walking around town saying the same thing with only the 7th saying something different because he is the quest giver. I like that. Lots of personality. Every npc feels like a real person in the town.

What I don't like about the reading is that you often just want to get on with it already. Reading is great when you want it but don't force people to talk to every npc in the room trying to figure out what to do next. That is the part that is making the reading and story drag. Let people move though at the pace they want. Then let us come back and talk to more people when we feel like exploring that part of the game.

    All die, so die well.

yes the do .. all the time. but it usually goes more along the lines of " this game should not be made for consoles it supposed to use  the "superior" keyboard mouse interface this game sucks on consoles and its great on pc etc etc..dragon age origans prime example

Well yea i guess they could thats what open and closed beta is suppoed to be for.. they cant tell if a control scheme is fustrating to users unless its actually tried out on users first... or at least not without making a blantly direct copy of someone elses scheme. but now that they know of the problems.. if it is indeed a widespread problem in real world terms ( not just forums) they should work on fixing it

SE brings us a totally different game, with some different concepts, different gameplay and harder learning curve (wich was what so many players whined about, the easiness of games). And everyone just criticizes and trash the game.

What were people expecting? Another clone?

When Aion was release everyone trashed the game for being a clone, now, everyone trashed the game for being very different.

Just remenber, this is a new experience. Get a f***ing gamepad, read the damn quests and enjoy something totally new. It's all there if you read. Stop asking it to be just like every other game, and above all, STOP ASKING IT TO BE THE WAY YOU WANT IT TO BE.

It's SE choice to decide the public to wich they cater. Take it or leave it, but at least be man/woman enough not to criticize if it's not your cup of tea. It's good, just not for you

    Amen brotha.....

I've been trying to find others that share this viewpoint. Not all mmos need to be cut from the same cloth. I like to experience different ways to do things that western devs never think of. I'm not saying it's superior or anything, just it's nice to see an even broarder way to interpret old formulas. And that includes trying out new input devices when playing. Games are just that........GAMES! I don't care if you're PC or console (I dabble in both). Sooner or later you will have to be willing to hook something up to your pc for gaming other than a mouse and keyboard. As games get more sophisticated, communication hardlines get bigger and technology advances you will see less and less need for ancient relics to connect the players to the playing field.

Although I know how narrowminded these forums can get, people have to understand that gamepads/joysticks have always been a part of PC gaming. Introducing MMOs into the equation was only a matter of time. Funny though, these same people would be willing to drop 300 bucks for a new g-card, but cringe at spending 10 bucks on a gamepad......All because they have such a phobia of console gaming that they'd deny the evolution of PC gaming all together in itself if it meant keeping the experience "pure".

Thing is PC gaming is only a small blip on the radar when you look at the history of video games all together. People don't even associate gaming with PCs. MMOs was the last fort holding out from the oncoming slaughter of console gaming. So the smallest mention that you'll need a console born device for something as sacred as MMO gaming sends PC gamer's blood pressure sky rocketing. And all I do is sit back and snicker as I enjoy watching them nerdrage.

Actually, talking to every single NPC is a staple of every FF game. They have always had hidden side quests and stories that you will pick up only if you speak to just about every NPC imaginable. In FF games, with the exception of probably FFXII, there were no "Fluff" NPC. They all had a purpose within the game. If you could speak to them, they would give you information. Most of the time it was story related, and in other times, they were for side quests and activities. The main NPCs were not always obvious, and you had to use the knowledge that you had gained to find them and do what you had to in order to make the story progress.

So far I have very much been enjoying my experience within the game. I posted this before, but I will add it here as well: I went into the game knowing that I was not going to use the mouse, and I have not suffered the disappointment that people seem to speak about. I do not feel laggy, and I enjoyed the game. I grouped up, so I always had mobs to kill, and in my off time I decided to harvest and craft.

This game is not for everyone, and I agree with this. However, the MMO community in general instead of seeing it from that perspective have decided that if its not mainstream, its crap. I have been following MMORPG for several years, and lately, I have lost almost all respect to what they concider "good" and "bad". I now try games and make up my own mind about it. Most high rated PvP games (yes, including the way overly hyped guild wars), crap in my eyes. They draw you in for a little bit, and then you never want to play them again. That is the reason for GW2 to go single pay. They know people are not gonna pay a recurring fee once they get frustrated in PvP. People will come back though if they don't have to pay extra with the hopes of "this time I might enjoy getting ganked."  Alot of other lesser known fantasy genre MMOs, surprisingly good and undeserving of their rating.

So, my rating for this game: depends on what you are looking for in a game. If you liked FFXI, you are probably going to like this game. If you did not like FFXI, do not even try this game. If you a WoW type game, and cannot adjust to new controls or interface, stay away from this game like the plague. For the rest of you which this game might be completely new, try it out, and learn the controls, this might be the game of your dreams.

It's not a monetary problem, it's the fact that (at least I) don't like to play with a controller. Especially if it's a PC game. Especially for an MMO! I don't like controllers so I play PC games. SE should have never planned to release this game on PC if all they were going to do is make it a shoddy console port. That's just insulting.

I was suspended for one day yesterday and I didn't even remotely defend this game.

It sounds like this site has a bunch of biased mods (no surprise there)

The only thing I said was that this happens on these forums every time a new game is about to release. The games forums will fill up with trolls/bashers/etc. I didn't even single out anyone or 'personal attack' anyone. I got called a fanboy for it and I replied with "where did I defend this game? did you not read my post?" so where is the personal attack?

I still haven't gotten a response, the mod probably saw me complain in a "reply back to this message" and deleted my inquiry  So yeah, there is a biased mod here, The head of this site should really look into the type of actions the people he hired are doing.

It isn't surprising, this site didn't even cover this game any compared to the other MMOs that are coming out soon.

DeserttFoxx, or anybody else who can answer this question.. I agree with most of the positives about this game, but there's one thing that's killing me right now.  Are Square Enix holding back the quests so that people don't ruin their own experiences as some random people say every now and then?  Once you finish those awesome starter quest chains.. there's nothing.  Then you do the guildleves and I guess log out for two days because otherwise you're going to be grinding low level creatures in the worst possible way.  That's if the guildleves even do really reset.. otherwise...  I'd be sold if there were main storyline quests that could lead you through most of the game.  Or even no limits on guildleves until your experience starts to run out.  Unfortunately I've had nothing to do in the beta for the last 2 days.. except to try to attempt to fix my armor which apparently doesn't work.  Can fix my weapons, but not my breaking armor.  Can't even seek repairs.  Blah.

Objectivity is delivered with a lack of personality made for the mainstream but never used for the mainstream.

And what about your feelings? Were they touched enough that you feel the need to post about how you think others feel? All I seen was a bunch of people posting about typical beta woes and a few knuckleheads thinking that the buck stops here for mmo approval. Most of us have been saying different strokes for different folks. If you're going to play the game, play the game. Don't chalk it up as a turd because you refuse to use a gamepad or because they're optimizing the game for a different style of playing other than a western one....

I'm really enjoying the game myself, despite having some crashing issues at peak times which is to be expected. I'm part of the old school MMO crowd though where group grinding was how you leveled. You didn't spend all of your time leveling though, you explored, crafted, read up on the lore and took part in whatever storyline was occuring at the time. I just hope they didn't sink a ton of resources into it expecting it to be the next WoW. I think it'll have a pretty good player base, and a fun, respectful, community. I personally will not miss the WoW crowd.

Trolls love to bait fans and talk about their feelings.  It is pretty funny because you can think about how awesome said trolls life must be.  +1

Hmm.....you know what? I won't buy a gamepad just to be able to play this game and I won't buy an expensive rig either just because they screwed up with the optimization and only people with a constant 60 fps don't have mouse lag. And yes, someone's feelings indeed got hurt if all they can do is call out people that don't like the game idiots and kiddos (like the other thread) instead of providing valid arguements to defend their game. Just sayin.
