This game for me?

RhevinRhevin Member UncommonPosts: 611

Torrented the game last night and plan on knocking out a couple days with the trial. Was curious about whether this game offers what I'm looking for.

Biggest thing is crafting. I love money. I love making it. There much of an economy? I view myself as the guy joining a clan/guild/whatever then going off into the woods for a few days, gather materials, come back and supply my comrades with weapons, armor, and from what I've read, artillery.

PvP is something that I don't care for, but understand its part of the game. I've played EVE and Lineage ][ and I've come to understand that there will always be someone that is looking to take me out. I'd rather be the guy that's behind the scene offering support and whatnot. Almost like a supplier for the neccesary equipment to conduct a siege.

PvE is something I prefer. Taking on a boss whether be instanced or not is something I find enjoyable. After a couple years of Lineage ][, I'm accustomed to staking out a dungeon or area and farming the same mobs over, and over, and over.

All in all, I'm kind of a soloist that enjoys participating in a few events; whether they be PvP or PvE I don't care. My understanding is that the "world" is pretty large and at this moment the population is rather small, which actually appeals to me more. So, you think this game is for me? I'm looking forward to clocking out tonight and starting my trial.

There is money to make and an economy to make it with. Supplying your clannies with weapons, armor and artillery.

Well, it may take you awhile to get where you want to be. But once you reach that point, I can't think of any clan that doesn't want a dedicated crafter.

i have a good idea for you

TRY THE TRIAL! and you'll find out :D

but anyway,   Darkfall has a pretty cool economic and crafting system in my opinion,  you just need to get used

to it cos its a bit different, but i think you'll learn it quikly enough, since you were also an Eve player ^^

You need a clan to get the top crafting mats so you will have to be social, but I am sure many will be happy to have you.

Haha, yea I plan on the trial. Just need to get myself amped out for 36 hours of gaming. =P

    I won't get home for another 6 hours.  >_<

No, it probably is not for you. Play the trial for a few days. i am sure you will come to this conclusion yourself, or perhaps you may like the game...

That is kind of what the trial is for though, isn't it?

I am a big darkfall fan however based on what you are looking for you might be more intrested in Fallen Earth to be honest.

Crafting in this game is a not. It takes a ton of money to get up anywhere close to being able to make money off of it. FE has a great crafting engine by comparision and is more solo friendly.

HAVING SAID THAT, I came into DF with crafting in mind and ended up loving the world and combat so much that I changed my entire game sytle.

so take that for whats its worth.

I still say just try the trial no matter what,

Please do not respond to me, even if I ask you a question, its rhetorical.

I agree FE has a better crafting system, but it's just as hard, if not harder, to make decent money in FE. Just like DF, everyone can pretty much craft everything.

I'm hoping AV will deal with crafting in the future to make it more lucrative.

    Current: None
Played: WoW, CoX, SWG, LotRO, EVE, AoC, VG, CO, Ryzom, DF, WAR
Tried: Lineage2, Dofus, EQ2, CoS, FE, UO, Wurm, Wakfu
Future: The Repopulation, ArcheAge, Black Desert, EQN

yes...in fact I have never played an MMO that has been able to get crafting economy down right and it doesnt seem that hard.

Just last night I am going thru my loot bag and looking at a few r40's i got from fairly easy pve. I cant even make r40's, sure i can have 4 times the durabilty if I could but who cares!

Hmm, since you prefer PvE and crafting I am not so sure you should go for this game, the game is very PvP oriented and not so much PvE. Making armors and stuff or you guild might however be popular in this game but you might consider something who is less PvP oriented, like Vanguard instead.

I am off course not telling you it isn't the right game, only you can decide that and there is a free trial. But the PvE is DFs weakest point, crafting is so so. It is for PvP fans mainly, but if there are any PvE players here, please speak up.

I am not sure solo is the most enjoyable in a game like DF either. But do the trial and if it doesn't work out for you, try Vanguard too (great crafting there).

I appreciate the responses. If the community in game is anything like here, I'm sure I'm going to enjoy it.

As for PvP, I don't mind it. I played Lineage ][ and was able to join some castle sieges which was very cool. But, two people focus fire on you and you live for about three seconds. Just like in EVE, I didn't mind getting podded. Its part of the game. But instead of being the guy on the front lines charging after the enemy, screaming with rage, wielding swords, pickaxes, and spears, running at full speed jumping into battle isn't really my playstyle. If anything, I'm the guy cleaning up the mess, providing the materials to win a siege, or at best grabbing a bow and picking off enemies from a distance.

Don't laugh please, but been playing World of Wacraft for five years now. And as much as I love the game and will probably have an active account for years to come, I just need a little change. Something a little more...edgy. Something with more risk and more reward.

Can't wait to get home, start a trial account, and start up. =D

I've played both (on FE now), and I agree Fallen Earth would probably be a better fit for you.  Crafting and gathering in FE is waaaaay more solo friendly.  I loathe crafting usually, but I actually like it in FE because its so well done.  Darkfall, for me at least, is far too dependent on cooperation of a guild to craft anthing good.  Mats are sometimes scarce and people WILL farm you for the mats you've been gathering.

take FE crafting and questing, add it to Darkfall combat system and it would make the most amazing game in all of amazing games.

for me one has what the other lacks and vice versa

You need to be able to handle delays of patches and lack of communication for a considarable amount of time but that won't bother you at first months.

If more risk is what you want, dont listen to those who want to you play FE instead. FE dont have risk. In DF, you risk everything you carry, so you need to bank often. If you like to orginize your bank, inventory and preparation before every pve trip or pvp, DF is even more for you.

In DF, being at the stage of the one who will craft items for his team mate can take  a long time, but if you dedicate your full time for it, i dont think it will take that long. Also, players in DF that dedicate their time being a crafter and do less monster hunter, can still raise STR, VIT and INT high enough to survive on pvp.

A lot of guild are recruiting. Id suggest you to join a large one like Convenant of the Phoenix. They wont mind giving you advice and practicing with you.

Well I played for 14 hours yesterday and into this morning. Took a while to get the keybindings down. Community was really helpful. I'd ask a question then get a PM from 5+ people offering help. I died twice which sucks. Bank, bank, bank! Crafting is awesome but the actual task of gathering mats makes me happy I have two monitors. I watched Back to the Future trilogy, Alien quadrilogy, the Saw series, and season one of Pawn Stars while getting lumber and iron. I'm really intrigued into making larger items. Still kind of confused as to why I can build a door but I'm sure that will come later. Right now I'm making 1000s of arrows at a time and picking off the goblins at Chimping Teeth no problem.

I also found out that swinging a poleaxe and jumping to avoid goblins isn't the best thing for your stamina.

As far as leaving the starter town, do I need to run from place to place or is there a way to port to other towns? In Lineage ][ you could pay adena (gold) to teleport or had to run. Teleporting would cost so much adena that in the time it took you to farm for the gold to port, it would have just been quicker to walk.

Anywho, going to play out the next 12 or 13 days. I liked it.

Id also suggest you to specialize yourself on archery 1st. Lesser magic is the most important spell to learn. Get it to 60 fast so you can learn all the 3 spell transfer(HP, Stamna, Mana)  If you dont want to die often, you need to craft mounts often before you go out exploring or kill monster. Once you see a red players or a different allied race, summon your mount so you can run away.(With that process, i didnt died once in trial. unless i was naked, gathering items.)

Personally, id also suggest you to specialize yourself on dual daggers. Since you say you want to be a crafter who will take care of his clanmates, pve is where you will spend more time to craft more stuff. Daggers in DF are made for PVM. During group pvp, you will do good enough with a bow and some offensive magic and support magic.

If it happens to not be your style, Vanguard is very crafting heavy. When I played a few of my friends did nothing but craft. Kinda helped me be the second person to own a boat lol, as I was a flapjack eatin, flannel wearin lesser giant.
