I didn't, but then i hadn't been following the game after uninstalling it after one night in the beta.

Gotta be some sort of record for shortest lived MMO(lol).

     End of an Era

APB has been a fantastic journey, but unfortunately that journey has come to a premature end. Today we are sad to announce that despite everyone's best efforts to keep the service running; APB is coming to a close. It's been a pleasure working on APB and with all its players. Together we were building an absolutely amazing game, and for that, we thank you. You guys are awesome!

From all of the Realtime World staff we thank you for your continued support.

The servers are still up, so join the party and say goodbye!

The cops were way too cool looking anyway. I mean, where are the mustaches?

  • tawesstawess Member EpicPosts: 4,227
Ah... well to bad. The idea was good and it had some nice parts. I really liked some of the intense car chases and shoot-outs.

    It will be missed.

    Funny.

  • marinridermarinrider Member UncommonPosts: 1,556

So they announce a new patch, then a few days later all of a sudden run out of money?

I think something is fishy up there at realtime worlds.

  • tawesstawess Member EpicPosts: 4,227
i think they were hoping on generating enough buzz with the new patch to secure more money from investors.

This have been a good conversation

This is terribly sad. APB was an awesome game that was before its time in my opinion.

I saw this coming, though. I wish I didn't buy the game now and saved some money, but ah well. Realtime Worlds can't seem to do anything right anymore =(

Shortest Lived MMORPG goes to APB. May it forever be known as the MMORPG that tried, but couldn't.

This really sucks for me due to the fact that I would love to play it. If anyone has an account with some gametime left on it please send me the login info so I can have a shot before servers shut down.

Fear not fanbois, we are not trolls, let's take off your tin foil hat and learn what VAPORWARE is:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vaporware

"Vaporware is a term used to describe a software or hardware product that is announced by a developer well in advance of release, but which then fails to emerge after having well exceeded the period of development time that was initially claimed or would normally be expected for the development cycle of a similar product."

I don't know, FF is may be even faster with all its problems. APB even had more support and dedicated players...we shall see.

Wouldn't be surprised if APB ends up on the Station Pass...this sort of situation is right up Smed's alley.

PLEASE don't turn this into a "It's not a MMORPG / It is a MMORPG topic". This is a place of mourning, not a place of arguing.

I recall the many complaints about the unbalanced system and how the stock responses to those complaints was "L2P nub".  Maybe targetting a game to such a small niche and ignoring the overwhelming opinion of everyone else isn't such a great idea.  I guess they'll all have to L2P something else now.

R.I.P. the character creation system; the only part of the game that was truly inspired development.  Even now I miss it...

so let's hope some great MMOs learn from this lesson. not everything with flashy graphics and a chatbox is a P2P MMORPG.

If their character creator wasn't high quality, then nothing is. That was the best one I've seen in pretty much any game.

I hope future MMOs will get that detailed with their character creators.

    Current: None
Played: WoW, CoX, SWG, LotRO, EVE, AoC, VG, CO, Ryzom, DF, WAR
Tried: Lineage2, Dofus, EQ2, CoS, FE, UO, Wurm, Wakfu
Future: The Repopulation, ArcheAge, Black Desert, EQN
