Here we have yet another boring over hyped mmo. I'm in the EOBT and while the graphics were impressive, the rest of the game kinda didn't measure up, The gameplay got old and stale really quickly at least for me (slashing 3-4 times then hitting smash, or throwing a guy only is fun for so long), The lack of music during battle stages felt lazy to me as well.
Graphics 8/10: Really impressive for a pay to win title.
Music 2/10: Music is lacking in most parts of the game so can't really score high here.
Gameplay 3/10: While the game was initially fun. After a few hours it just got dull and repetive, lots of copy paste for environments, and the lack of music in the stages didn't help here either.
This is a early open beta test mini-review, will probally do another one once OBT actually starts and see if anything gets improved, but with these titles, I never expect much. Fanboy's Flame-on because I know your gonna :P
"An MMORPG could be completely diffirent from WoW. Just look at games like Dofus, Wizard101 or EVE. But as it is, most of the Western MMOs are trying to succeed by out-WoWing WoW. It's like an army of 10 sports games made about same sports, and barely none about other sports. WoW clone is an accurate description of those games, it manages to convey much information with only two words."

Soooo 1,2,2,1,3 combat is much better?
Keep in mind many things are subject to change, Beta mainly isn't just a "Play to get better before others play" thing as most people think so you can't always exept things to launch with nearly-finished features o-o.
The combat mechanics are much more of a soothing relaxation then other mmos, where you just press a sequence of buttons. This one actually utilizes combos. The only thing that shall make it better in my opinion would be to include more special moves within said combos.
I've only played a Fiona for a little while, but I really plan on playing Eva (Mage) and sticking with it cause of my magic addiction.
OP you have no idea, check this video and think again http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XE6qS6OxjV8&NR=1
The way this game is I don't see it being pay 2 win but what ever man it's in beta, enjoy your same tab-target old MMO/MMORPG games while we enjoy the truly next gen, see yaa.
my only issues are the combat and connection problems. the combat is just to repetetive. don't see any overhyped game though....
Actually, this is more of a basic MOG or MOAG (Action Game) until further notice. It cannot be called a MMORPG and thinking of it as one can just stir more confusion as to what an actual MMORPG should be, since its practically like a dungeon game. (Think Runescape Dungeoneering or sitting in WoW's Dalaran from level 15 to 80 just random-queuing for dungeons.)
The fun of the game went over your head honestly. It's not a game meant to be taken extremely serious, it's just fun. You talk about the combat being repetitive though. My question is, how is it different from any other MMO? How is different from spamming your key attacks in other games. The only difference here is you don't have to do 1 1 2 2 3 3 1, you just do 1 1 1 1 1 1 for the same affect.
In all honesty, there's really no reason to defend the game, it's just plain fun. Throwing on some of your own music and going in and just playing the game is exactly what's so fun about it. You walk up to the boat, find a group and just go in and kill shit and take down a boss. I have honestly not had more fun killing a boss in a long while. Using the grappling hooks to take out the bosses leg and drag them around while your team beats them down is mad fun.
The game may not be as "epic" as many other games, but it's funner. It's an online group based button masher. I'm only surprised it took someone so long to come up with it. How long will the fun last is the question, but so far into the betas of these past few months, it's the most fun I've had.
Also, do note that like many others have stated this isn't an MMO. The best I can compare it to is a Diablo styled game. Form a party, go out and kill the bosses for loot, repeat. Some story, but mainly just pure fun.
About combat. A warrior use what is best for him/her to win, swing and make sure you hit to kill. My god you can even throw bombs: spears, hook chains, barrels, rocks, bricks etc... No target system: free aim, free control, action packed, epic, heart pounding boss fights, crafting, skilling, ranks, achievement, Quest lines, side missions, story missions etc. So wtf do you people want to play?
Connection problem is due to people that is in the east joining us in the west, hope that get fix on release.
That is not really what he said. He said combat was boring and does that have anything to do with another boring system?
Well, you sort of need to have seen something better to judge something to be lesser. Seeing as how all other button mashers are exactly like this, he could only be referring to an MMO, in which case 1, 2, 2, 1, 3 is correct, because most game's core combat mechanics are the repetition of 1-4 key attacks. Thus his assumption was a correct one.
yes...and it still gets boring. you have (lc - left click, rc = right click) lc lc lc lc, rc, lc rc, lc lc rc, lc lc lc rc, lc lc lc lc rc. not much in the way of variety. and the projectiles all work the same. i would like to see more combos. but it is still fun in short play sessions.
I am with you on this but it is not 111111 more like SSD SSSD SSDSS DSSDD or just SSSSSS or WSS, WSSSS, WD etc.
Come on dude you are asking for to much now... just take as is now because these type of games will rise in the near future.
Well, let's break one of the class' attacks/abilities down.
left click - simple attack, chainable into further left clicks, begins to hit everything around you.
Right click - quick stab, can knock enemy down.
Right click while running - quick thrust, always knocks enemy down.
left click, right click - two quick slashes that hit faster than other attacks.
left click, left click, right click - heavy attack that knocks all enemies in front of the attack back or down.
left click, left click, left click, right click - Wide cone attack hitting everything in a wide arc for splash damage.
left click, left click, left click, left click, right click - Full on AoE whirlwind attack hitting everything around you.
R - kicks opponents while up or while down.
E - grabs opponent.
E, right click - grabs and finishes the opponent, if you bring them next to a wall, you can finish most enemies instantly by smashing them into it (badass animation might I add). If you back them to a ledge, you kick or throw them off.
E, left click - goes into combo attacks on the enemy.
Space + direction - dodges in that direction.
F - uses current object that you have in secondary slot, aimable at specific body parts or items.
Spear - can cause specific debuffs on the enemy if aimed at specific spots, legs, head, back, arms. Can also cause the enemy to fall down and be crippled allowing for a period of free attacks.
Grapple - Allows you to hook onto an enemy's leg and cripple them, draggin them around helplessly. Also usable on the hands/arms to subdue specific attacks.
Bombs - Detonate after few seconds, if thrown correctly do a knockback and heavy AoE.
Flash Bangs - Disorientates large groups.
This is all I've found as of level 17/200. I'd find it difficult to believe that more skills/attacks don't open up as you increase in level.
Are we expecting DOWN-half circle-to-Right "Attack" and Right-Right-LEft "Attack" command type of combat?
Or maybe Punch-Punch-Kick? Low-Low-Med-Low-High Punch?
It can get as complicated as you want. But the bottom-line is, everything will be repetitive b/c it is how you will fight. Why make it even more complex than it needs to?
All you need is your basic attack, smash, run, dash/block/roll, and grab. Anything else is just frosting on the cake.
Things will get fancier/flashier at higher levels if thats what you are expecting.
Or you can wait for Evy and play with using skill shortcuts to use her magic skills.
Right, we all have options nuff said.
I think it's getting some heat from the OP specifically because it's for some reason known as an MMORPG and it's not up to the standards. If this was released as an action hack and slash, it would be welcomed as one of the best in the genre. You just have to understand that it is a HACK AND SLASH game with a multiplayer, not an MMORPG. There's crafting, there's farming, there's quests, there's button mashing. It's a one time fee for hours and hours of enjoyment, that's what it boils down to.
this game was over hyped? really?
i hadnt' even herd of this game before all the QQ threads started showing up in these forums.
But why the OP gave this new gen a low score like that, like it is trash wtf? a 4 out of 10 mean it is shit, no good, a fail.
This http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gnKJpXZxmyU&feature=related to the OP is a 4/10.
So is going around saying games are overhyped the new fad?
Most don't even know about this game. Lol...overhyped
1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.
2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.
3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.
Meh, all I see in this thread are more Beta Warriors who will never spend a penny on this or any other game. You try it, you hype it and by the time it goes live you're already on to the next beta like a swarm of locusts. I'll wager not one of you defending this F2P wonder no one's heard of will be playing it a year from now.
This game isn't overhyped, imo. Maybe you just think it is cause you yourself was really hyped about it, and I only found out about this game yesterday when I was at youtube watching MMOHut.com's vids on MMOs. And then I got my beta key from GS.com.
The supreme art of war is to subdue the enemy without fighting." - Sun Tzu, Art of War
I would have never thought this game was overhyped. Nor do I, nor should most people, consider this a true MMO. This is less of an MMO then guild wars.
And I found the lowbie game quit fun. Ive heard and seen that the game gets much harder quickly.

HAHA over hyped are you kidding me?
The only game that is over hyped right now is guild wars 2, man is there gonna be some drama when that game releases. I'm not saying its gonna be amazing or crap just saying that there is A LOT of hype for guild wars 2.
I didn't even hear about Vindictus really until about 2 weeks ago. I've played the beta and will say it is a lot like global agenda except hack n slash instead of unreal tournament.
Anyways like a lot of people have already said it is not an mmo (in my head anyways). But the gameplay is pretty fun, I couldn't see anyone playing this game for a long time.
