I know each city has it's own opening story quest line. Does this mean that there are three story lines that will continue throughout the game? Or do they all merge into one once the story continues when you reach level 10(?).
If I plan to only play one character, do I need to do all three?

Nobody knows yet, only 4 days to wait don't worry lol.
But my personal opinion is that they will be unique throughout for each starting city, as its quite a specific story and can't see them merging.
Core i5 13600KF, BeQuiet Pure Loop FX 360, 32gb DDR5-6000 XPG, WD SN850 NVMe ,PNY 3090 XLR8, Asus Prime Z790-A, Lian-Li O11 PCMR case (limited ed 1045/2000), 32" LG Ultragear 4k Monitor, Logitech G560 LightSync Sound, Razer Deathadder V2 and Razer Blackwidow V3 Keyboard
I think they will all eventually merge toward the Garlemald Empire storyline. But each city will have a unique storyline so you probably won't see the merge much further into the game.
You can only make 1 character unless you pay $3 monthly per character slot. My guess is they will merge at some point otherwise you need to pay an additional $6 a month to make 2 new characters for storyline only. But again only a guess at this point.
I would guess, judging by that damn tattoo on the neck of at least one character in each starting city, that the stories will merge at a higher level. I'd guess 30? The level 10 quest is city based. I'm sure someone has got to 20, what is that one?
Also, I've never received anything but gil from the story, so I wouldn't expect it will be crucial to character development.
Drop the next-gen marketing and people will argue if the game itself has merit.
I'm pretty confident that they all merge into one story. Even the opening cutscenes are fairly similiar.
It'd be pretty cool if you could travel to each city on your single character and do/unlock that story line. I'm less worried about it progressing my character or rewards and am more interested in getting the most out of the story line.
Probably all 3 storylines merge together in that town sort of jeuno that is in ffxiv were everyone meets and continue onwards the same storyline.
The trailer shows all races helping each other against the enemy so there must be some hints from there not to say in all opening cutscenes there's the "Touch, Think, Feel etc etc"
Well I think it's going to be like it was in XI where the storylines are mostly seperate but meet up at certain major parts of the storyline. I am very excited to see what happens in this story though, with the trailer and going through all the different storylines of the cities I think we have just seen the tip of iceburg. I think the story is going to blow our minds like only final fantasy can in a video game.
