Hi all.
I played through beta for the last month and found the game ran smooth for me, Graphics were really nice and combat pretty smooth. On the gameplay though i found the game a little too sandboxy! there didnt seem to be much to do after the main quest other than grind levis.....no i dont mind a grind at all as long as i can explore at the same time.
What i am wandering before i take the plunge is this....did more content open up with live?
Are there areas i can explore? all the areas i saw in beta were funelled.
Are there many dungeon type areas? i didnt get to see any in beta.
Is this game going to satisfy a player of my style? i loved old EQ and still do, due to the grinding and excellent dungeon design.
Beta did make me think of EQ more than any other game in a long time but i didnt get enough time before it went live.

70 or so class quests were implemented, 1-2 for each class and the main story continues further.
It is quite sandboxy still and will be for a while until more content is implemented, which is in the works right now.
Honestly, my opinion is that waiting until Christmas or March next year would make your experience a lot better. 2 content updates under it's belt, the game would be much more fleshed out than it is now. The GuildLeve system would work as designed too.
It is just my suggestion however. You won't run out of stuff to do even now, but it will be a bit one sided and sandboxy as you said.
I agree about waiting, especially if you liked the game at all. There seems to be mixed views, but there obviously are problems. If you liked some aspects in beta and played now before more content and fixes are put in, you might get discouraged and quit playing a game you could end up enjoying once it matured a bit.
Now, if you absolutely cannot wait for a few months, wait a little bit after the full live release to see where it stands, lol.
I'm a bit ambivalent about the game, so waiting a while to try it. I did like ffxi some (quit for non gameplay issues), but if it released here in the US when it did in japan, probably would have quit in disgust. This release probably would be akin to the ffxi japanese release from what I can gather so far. Many problems, lack of content, constant headaches.
It's better, but considering 8 years have passed since then, and their experience with MMO's in general, it's about the same deal, yeah.
I wouldn't have touched FFXI with a 5 foot pole if I started playing at JP release, either. NA release was a whole different situation.
Thank you Hyanmen.
Good advice. i think i have been burnt by the sandbox experience after darkfall etc and would rather wait till more content is added. I like so much sandbox if it is implemented right. and i do love to explore and travel to places that i shouldnt be.
I think on your advice it is better for me to wait till after christmas. Thanks.
