If you are looking to 'get into' a game then your best bet is Darkfall and/or EVE at least until GW2 and WoD come out. If you are looking for an accessible way to pass the time with easy groups and plenty of action until something more to your liking comes along then play the unlimited free trial of WAR.

Seriously WAR many be pants overall, especially the endgame, but the free trial is usually packed with people so getting groups and getting into pvp/scenarios will be easy. That and it's free,

    Hm...

I HIGHLY doubt that you'd like it, but I found this game (oddly enough it's not even on the list here....) called World of Battles. It's an MMORTS, fantasy, and was pretty freakin fun when I was last on it.

Only trouble is that is has a lot of Brazilians and the like, so you might have a slight language barrier. But if you're into RTS i'd suggest you check it out.

Edit: Screenshot from the game. Apologies if it doesn't link or something.

I play WoB sometimes, when I'm in the mood. And I'm currently quite getting into DF. We'll see, what comes of that.

I hate WoW because it made my plush hamster kill himself, created twin clones of Hitler, punched Superboy Prime in reality, stared my dog down, spoiled my grandmother, assimilated me into the Borg, then made me into a real boy, just to make me a woman again.

I played darkfall myself and I do love the concept and design, but theres not alot thats great about it 'yet'. That expansion has been 2 weeks from done for 2 months if you get the picture. Theres a grind to the game thats beyond belief and far worse when a more developed character comes to take all your stuff. Unless you have your skills up. You're SOL and face a huge time sink for every time you die. The game needs to make development alot better and more meaningful. It is skill based but you only see a skill difference every 25 skill points. So its not really a skill based system. The skill 'levels up' every 25 skill. I think if the game keeps going for another year or two it will probably become a great game.

In all honesty, the most immersion I got into the game was WoW, not for anything involving the MMO except lore. I played Warcraft 1 2 and 3 before I started on the game and I was immersed in the world when I even started. Each quest gave and opportunity to explore the story in the game and thats what drew me in.

Despite my feelings about it, DFO does seem like one of the better MMOs for what you're asking, EVE might be good too but it is really daunting to get into unfortunately. I'm gonna give it another try soon and you might want to as well.

Ugh, EvE... I've tried around ten times before, even with some people to guide me. I just... Don't like space all that much, I guess. I may give it another go, since I like the concept, but it feels like I never could catch up to anyone and so.... Impersonal, perhaps? I don't know.

I don't mind timesinks. In fact, I like them - I tend to alt-tab to the web browser a lot. I love the slower pace and the ability to explore is mind-boggling. If I find people to stick with, this just might become my game of choice.
