Yep AOC also. Combos were a good idea and fun at first but when you get higher level you get more and more attacks and need to press more and more keys, for me it wasnt fun at all.
Yeah.. Any game that won't let me adjust keybindings = Instant Quit. Any point-to-click game = Instant quit.
That's about my two biggest pet peeves.
~Miles "Tails" Prower out! Catch me if you can!
You don't like Diablo/Titan Quest... or Baldur's Gate/Dragon Age, or RTS style games?
Or, are you just talking about MMO's? I personally believe a Diablo3/Titan Quest type MMO would do very well. Updated Graphics. Full non-instanced world with a good crafting system. Dungeons, epic loot. Hell, even a more sandbox approach would work. That kind of fast paced action would keep you running back for more I'd think. Assuming it could even be done as a MMO.
AOC = I hated the combo system, it was sluggish and not as responsive as it should be. it's not huge but there is that like half a second delay of when you hit the button and it actually registers.
WAR- Same reason that same sluggish like half a second delay.
Coming from games like lineage 2 and WoW, when you hit a button it registers instantly! Seems like such an obvious thing to polish in your game but still a lot of mmo's are released like that. In all honesty I think games that do this prove that such a meaningful aspect for a game cannot be overlooked.
There was no delay in WAR. Not sure what you're talking about here... Just sayin'
All the time. Just like a car, if I don't like how it drives I won't buy it. I move onto the car/game that feels right.
Hence my frustration with many titles SUPPOSED to be incredible games, like AC1, EQ1, Ultima Online, Assassin's Creed, Horizons, many FPSs, almost every 3rd person shooter.
Every one of these has been touted as "great" games yet when I went to play them, I couldn't stomach trying to fight my keyboard/controller just to get anywhere.
I also think this is the NUMBER ONE reason World of Warcraft is as popular as it is. The controls in that game are the smoothest and most interactive, visceral of any MMO I've ever played making it a sweet ride, at least control wise.
Yes, I think of the game as like God of War when it comes to being able to control your character. It is perfect, its like you're the character when you move about and activate things. That's the first thing I look for and notice when I try out any game, not just MMOs. Polish polish polish. Old school Doom and Doom II was like this as well. Such an important aspect for a game.
Yes. All these new 3D DoTA knock offs that are springing up. LoL, HoN, DoTA all got 1 thing right, no stupid third person controls. Way to room for error in the strategy and timing/aim of the skills. That and... well WASD feels wrong.
Yes. I left twice FF XI b/c of controls and then I bought a controller for pc.. FF XI now have the best controlls ever. And I secretly wish i could play more mmos with my controller.
I've quite Corum Online because it used some odd form of keyboard control for movement and combat. I tried to stick with it to give a game a fair chance but when my hand started getting sore, that was it.

Agreed. For me, well, I think controls are a part of the reason for me not to play LOTRO anymore even though I have a lifetime subscription. It just feels strange that when you jump forward, you can turn 180 degrees mid-air and actually end up at the same spot from where you jumped from; even mid-air, you keep heading towards the direction you are facing, not the direction you jumped towards.
Changing your strafing direction is a little bit slow which I suppose is more realistic than just changing your direction instantly, but it feels annoying. Then there are the combat controls which just feel awkward with so many abilities being the "on next melee hit" -type, not to forget the interface itself is quite unclear to be honest.
I have quit alot of F2P games because of clunky controls, off the top of my head I can only remember Runes of Magic being particularly bad in that regard.
Solely because of controls? No. I haven't run into one that was so intolerable that you couldn't learn to deal with it after awhile.
Are controls a factor? Yes. It can be one of several reasons to leave a game. I've never left a game because of a single reason...if I only needed a single reason to leave a game, I wouldn't play any games at all.
I haven't quit an MMO solely on controls, since there are plenty of other reasons to quit a game, but every MMO I tried and quit, controls were a contributing factor.
Basically if you have bad controls you have a bad game.
All men think they're fascinating. In my case, it's justified

I dont remember the title but i remember there was no option to change the pitch of the camera
Ex. pressing down goes up
Anybody remember a game like this??
I feel like this post is about FFXIV and yunno what, it should be. SE should be sued....seriously. Thievery!
only game i ever quit playing because of controls was assassin's creed 1 on pc...Can't remember why but i got so frusturated w/ it.

Tbh the only game I have ever quit purely because of the controls was FF XI ... cant think of another one .
