I was wondering, if DF worth it's money these days. Let me be frank - I like the idea of the game, and so far liked the free trial. I am well aware of the heavy PvP and ganking. I've heard there's lots to find for an explorer like me and the whole sandbox thing (even if it's limited) "clicks" for me.

Are there any RP guilds? How hard is it to find other players? Things like that.

I hate WoW because it made my plush hamster kill himself, created twin clones of Hitler, punched Superboy Prime in reality, stared my dog down, spoiled my grandmother, assimilated me into the Borg, then made me into a real boy, just to make me a woman again.

There is an expansion coming out next week prolly that will improve the game a lot and many will most likely resub, so it's gonna get busy soon, I see a lot of deaths in my future heh, me being noob and all.

This one and the next huge expansion is mostly PVE and exploration improvments too, many new dungeons inluding ones in NPC newbie towns, treasure hunting with maps, textures, charater models and animations revamps and much more.

The game is moving in the right diretion, I like it so I'm willing to ignore the long grind ahead of me heh.

I care about your gaming 'problems' and teenage anxieties, just not today.

They have not said the expansion will be out next week.  Last word they said on the expansion was last week and they said that they still have some issues to work out and its still in testing and that they are still adding in new features to it.

I'm going to say its going to be a few more weeks to a month before its ready.

With that said Darkfall is a interesting game if you can get through the bugs its having at this time. NPC mobs stop spawning at times, the hacking issues that are going on (and do not even say there is no hacking going on as we know there is).

There was new word on expansion just yesterday and a hacking issue is  a year+ ago i noticed one myself. Make use of /gm_report and it will be dealed with. You sure you meant 'hacking' as in real  'hack'(manipualating software) and not as in macro, exploit mob etc ?

Yup, yesterday Tasos dropped another activity report indicating that they should know by monday when the expansion will release adding "it looks like we’re good for next week".

Also, hacking? I have rarely seen anything of the sort for a long time.

Is there still large aomounts of Macro stuff (afk swimming/running/blood walls or new mac's) going on? I too am interested in returning just do not want to spend time walking over afk swimmers, ducking blood walls or watching low level spawn camps being done by higher experinced people.

Not to late to join in at all. This game has just started to get going! AV is taking the EVE online or the Iceland approach as its come to be known in the MMO development world, MO took it to a new extreme to start out using players as part of the funding to build it up though. DF has come on nicely since launch, be it a little slower than we thought, but it's getting there. Come join, don't worry about end game, just play your character until you're ready to join a clan of people you get on with, it's all about the players in DF , get involved with the players, DF is just a canvas for players to use their paints so to speak.

Bloodwalls are practically non existant, you will meet occassionally afk swimmers etc. but you get kicked or even banned for it.

I am glad it has got better as I did try it and then cancelled as there was to many issues which needed to be dealt with, plus I've been doing RL stuff making $$'s or ££'s depending where you are from.

I'm roleplaying In RL atm with this new interenet MLM venture which is making me a nice return world-wide so am afraid this game will have to wait another three months before I can get invloved, by then my returns will allow me to sit and play any game at anytime.

Then at least this will be even better...

No hacking? Give me a break, no one should trust your judgement in anything Darkfall related. You and a select few here are the biggest fanbois I have ever seen in a video game. It's almost like you guys have a cult running here.

He never said there was "No hacking," just stated he personally has not seen it. I know at launch there were tons of people hacking when I played, which is one reason I quite. I came back a few month's later though and it was much better, since AV started banning hackers. Honestly out of the 4 month's I have played I only saw one guy hack, I was traveling to a city and a guy that was way behind me somehow started going EXTREMELLY fast and caught up to me before I got to the city, we battled a minute and he teleported to the other side of a river and then back again killing me. I reported it however, and within about 2 days the guy was gone and a GM returned the items I lost.

Any MMO you play has hackers unfortunately, but they are few and far between. As far as RP, I honestly never ran into anyone doing this while I played. It's just not got the right tools in-game yet to do so, but on the Darkfall official forums there is a RP topic and have been seeing more  people getting into RP(I believe there is one RP clan now).

I couldn't deal with the horrible UI, the broken alignment system that floods the game with murderers, and the lack of a skill point cap.  Those things kill population and thus, kill economy.  No skill caps encourage all players to make ultra-hybrid classes.  While it is sandboxy, there needs to be some restriction to allow players to use their creativity.  I feel like I am forced into doing what everyone else is doing in order to be competitive.  Not only that, a skill point cap would lessen the grind for newer players (Which is a major issue for new players not wanting to play DF).  Sandboxes are supposed to be about the players.  From the few months that I played (about six months ago), the systems in place were too broken for me to continue playing.

Ultima Online is 13 years old and still has more subscriptions than DF.  If they copied the global alignment system and created a skill point cap.. as well as finished the UI, this game would see a large influx of new subscriptions.  AV won't do that though.  Not because they can't, but because the majority of their customers are veterans to the game, or there are too many veteran players that could be lost.  They will piss and moan about some of their hard work being wiped out.  They will quit.  So AV is afraid to do the right thing, even if the right thing will fix just about everything that's wrong with the game currently.  Pretty sad isn't it?

Also, introducing special classes into a sandbox game is horribly non-samdboxy.  Anyone with a brain can see that they are trying to cover their massive design failure with a bandaid in hopes they can retain enough people to turn a small profit in order to pay back their loans and what-not.  All the while, only the ignorant don't realize that these classes are the complete opposite of what a sandbox is supposed to be.  All it takes is a bold move AV.  You can double your subscriptions nearly over night with these changes.  No, you'll keep the status quo.  You'll continue to barely get by with 15k subscriptions (give or take).

So, in other words...This game (If largely unchanged since I played last) is not worth the money if you are turned off by the issues I mentioned above.  By all means, try the game out.  I'm not stupid enough to sit here and tell anyone what they should and shouldn't play.  Or what they should and should not like.  Give it a go and you may like it.  I won't play unless those issues are addressed however.  Neither will thousands of other players.

Actually alignment system of Ultima Online worked so bad, that the developers decided to rather kill unrestricted PvP with Trammel and item insurance rather than try to fix it for 10th time. No reds - no problem :)

DF alignment system is broken, and they will never fix it completely. However they will probably do something about "alignment farming":

Yesterday I've met first DF vet PvP-ing with his alt, to seek a challenge ...

Every MMO makes "old" content easier / faster, as new content appears. Vets don't really complain about it, and even enjoy less "grind" while they experience the same content once again, leveling their alts.

WoW is the best example. Have you ever heard vets outrage that leveling 1-80 can be done in one week, while they've spent months going through it ?

UO (and now MO) allows players to create alts - and it's also very non-RPG solution. It's band-aid for skill cap problems: Someone killed your crafting / gathering alt, who does not have means to defend himself ? - Just log in into red PK, with 7 x GM fine tuned for PvP, and revenge him.

DF has quests (now about 200 per each race) - and it's also horribly non-sandboxy solution - but it's needed because DF does not have 30 years of lore behind it, like UO.

All we know about prestige classes comes from 2002 interviews, and few vague comments in recent interviews. It's much too early to tell, how much impact they will really have.

I've started playing DF again and I really enjoy it. The only problem I've come across is the fact that vets are so far ahead in stats that it's really hard to get anywhere in a populated area. Also lag switches. I've seen that a couple times too. Where they flip a switch on and off so it looks like they are standing still but in reality they are behind a rock in front of you resting or buffing up.

The vet claim is unwarrented. I have taked two gaming breaking in the past two years while playing darkfall both lasted around 6 months. I was able to get back into game and play with no problem. Am I super warrior? no, but I can hold just fine.

Vets quit after awhile, new ones are then are formed and overall it balances itself out.

Besides, people used to complain when the game first came out about people who had an advantage becuase of macroing etc..this was 2 months into the game mind you!

Please do not respond to me, even if I ask you a question, its rhetorical.
