Why isn't EA Responsible?

DethnobleDethnoble Member Posts: 419

Seriously, people. Publishers rake in a huge profit from development companies, who themselves end up firing a large chunk of their developers after a game is released.  However, when something goes bad, the game is bad, the publishers are magically immune to the responsibilities or fault in this.   Even though the publisher did not actually develop the game, if they want to rake in profits from the game, they should be responsible for any fallout that occurs.

In this case, APB was published by EA, and therefore they bare just as much responsibility and bad image for the disaster it became since they had their hand in the pot.  Why did EA sign a contract to publish APB?  Why did EA continue through that contract and publish the game if it was trash like this?  If APB was a huge success, EA would be releasing many press releases about their great, successful game.  However, since it went bad, EA wants nothing to do with it, and their shills and rapid fanatics are out headhunting the people who are calling EA out on the atrocious game they WILLINGLY published.

So at what point did EA not do it's job? Should they not get paid for doing their job?

All EA did was make the game available to anyone that wanted the game. That was their job and they definitely did that. The quality was solely RTW's problem. I'm sure that RTW sat down with EA and showed them a demo and market reports to prove it would be a profitable game. EA obviously offered a deal and things went from there. EA didn't know when the deal was struck that RTW would mismanage money or put out a 1/2 done game. Even if they did they already had a contract.

The fact that EA is now giving credit/free games to people shows that they think APB was a mark on their reputation and they are trying to make up for it. Did they have to do it? No, but it certainly insures that I'll purchase from EA again.

They had Paul Barnett help hype the game. The guy is good.

Agree. If you're pissed, look at the company that mismanaged the game and blame them. EA's doing a good deed offering people a free game/25% off.

EA was distribution, they took a product and made it available to those who wanted to buy it.

When eggs get recalled for having salmonella should we go after the truck drivers who brought them to the store?

I hate EA as a company because they ruin franchises that they buy out and I think the games that they actually make are down right terrible. But I also don't like to stick blame where it doesn't belong. The blame in this case does not lie with EA.

Yeah, I don't get the OP's problem either. Do you just want to hate on EA because they're one of those big 'the devil' companies?

They where the publishers for this game. They published it.

They didn't develop nor design, nor (I'm guessing) manage the product.

Just agreeing with everything here, EA is not responsible in this at all.

lets put it this way. when a book is bad, do you blame the writer, or the publisher?

    Playing
    Nothing
    waiting for
    The secret world
    Played
WoW, DCU online, star wars: the old republic, city of heroes, city of villains, everquest, plenty more I'm probably forgetting or aren't worth noting.

The publisher.  It's the publisher's responsibility to screen for and weed out the bad books that noone will buy.  If they choose to publish a bad book, it's their fault if it doesn't sell, and it's their loss if copies get pulled.  Whoever spends the money to print, package, ship and sell the product are the ones putting up the risk, not the writer.  Of course, books being a far more tradable commodity than a one-time-use game which, if shut down, no longer functions, it's a bit of a different scenario.

That said, I'm not saying I agree or disagree with EA's handling here, but that's just my opinion.

Agree with others.I am not a huge fan of EA and alot of the stunts they have pulled in past and will in future I am sure but they did there job as publisher this train wreck is solely RTW fault.I am surprised EA is doing what they are doing for some ppl tbh with you.
