How similiar to God of War / Dantes Inferno

So im hearing a lot of great things about this game as far as gameplay goes.  The person I spoke to said this game is a lot like God of War in that respect and I was curious what others thought?

Something else that crossed my mind that I didnt get a chance to ask was the variety of maps the game has to offer?  Is there a large variety of maps or instances so far, or do you experience repetition?

I wouldn't directly God Of War, but Vindictus is hack'n Slash. But here's some gameplay video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gnKJpXZxmyU

Notice that at one point, they show that the player is wearing an armor that's all destroyed, that's part of the game. Armor breaks and it shows on your character.

You will experience repetition in the maps from the same Area (so in Perilous Ruins, you will only see Perilous Ruins map) there are about 6-7 different maps (possibly 8?), about 8-9 for Hoarfrost. But it's still pretty repetitive, which can be a turn off. Although in my opinion, the boss battles makes up for the lack of variety in the maps, but that's mainly because I care little about graphics in general, so maps don't bother me as much (but that's just me)

thanks, ya I think I prematurely asked this question as I was able to get a key and play for about 15 minutes.  I can see the comparison he made with god of war pretty quickly.

One thing that caught my eye on the website was this quote:

"Dungeons change each time you enter them, so you'll never get bored."

how accurate is that quote?  I was imagining something similiar to Hellgate London where the maps were similiar but the layouts would change

*edit* I also got to say what a shame it is that this game doesnt have native support for gamepads like the 360 or logitech dual action.  I guess it could probably be setup but this game feels very console-ish in a good way

The quote is somewhat true yet false at the same time. Basically, they cycle through the maps available for the Region. So if you run in Perilous Ruins, a mission will have 2 to 4 different maps (more later on) out of the 6-7. If you run the same missions, those maps may be different, but the game  chooses them amongst the 6-7 different maps available for the region, there's no "randomly generated maps".

I don't think I heard about someone playing with a Controller, and there's no native support, but it's probably possible to use one if you set it up.

cool thanks for all the replies and the explanation of that quote from the website

so far Im having a lot of fun.  The games UI is excellent and the combat is very fun and easy to get into.  Depending on the cash shop items (gotta love cash shops) this is probably going to be my new go-to free-to-play game.  Really glad I heard about it.

oh, one more thing.  Since this game isnt officially released yet have they said if they were wiping the characters when the betas are over?  I can only assume yes since thats typical

No there will be no Server Wipe. There was a Server Wipe during Closed Beta, but there will be none during Early Start (which ends on October 5th) and after Open Beta (starts October 13th) and it has been confirmed by Nexon. Most F2Ps don't have wipes after Open Beta.

As for the Cash Shop, I'll just quote what I posted in a different thread:

Vindictus Cash Shop will mostly contain Avatar Items, Platinum Coins, Goddess Grace ( Item to revive yourself in Dungeon, works like Platinum coin, you buy a certain amount and can use them until you run out), possibly Potions that offers temporary bonuses to Stats, more Storage Slots, Dyes (I'm not quite sure wether this will be Cash Item or not), possibly an item that let's you reskill your points (not sure either about this one).

This is just speculation but possibly Personal Shops, and players might be allowed to sell their Cash Shop items to other players through in-game currency (Avatars, Dyes, potions) like it is the case with DFO and Mabinogi.

    sounds awesome  :)

One more question before I let you go though :P

I see other character silhouettes at character creation and one character marked as "coming soon".  Is there any info on who/what these characters are and when they might be available?

There are 3 upcoming heroes. 2 of which that have not been released in Korean yet (Kai (Archery) and Karok (Big sword guy I think). As for Evie (Mage), I believe it was mentionned by Nexon that she would be released at Open Beta, but I could be wrong and it would be at launch. That said, Cloth Armor for Evie are already in-game so chances are pretty high that it will be at OB.
