It needs to be Free to Play with all the crap Se gives its subscriber. This game is past its prime and has been destroyed by RMTs and Abyssea.
Well... I doubt it will be going f2p any time soon considering it's the only profitable MMO SE has :P. Recent news about XIV seems to point that out fairly well.
FFXI is still chugging along with little change in sub numbers and FFXIV is in the process of trying to win back subs lol.
True FF14 didnt fair too well at launch and has alot of problems. These problems are fixable. It will be a matter of when 11 becomes F2p. 11 is one my favorite MMO, but the game has seen better days. 14 is the future and should be focused on.

Maybe, but I just don't see it to be honest. I tried warning people that FFXIV wasn't going to be what they expected and that most would simply return to FFXI or move on to other games. And it has come to pass, most that made the switch have mostly written off XIV and made the return to XI or moved on.
The biggest issue is the window to repair XIV is getting smaller by the day. 2011 is right around the corner as is the next wave of MMO's. Tera and Rift are both going to do their damage to XIV.
Those wanting an FF MMO are better off with FFXI imho. With XIV struggling with itself it's in no state to weather the storm coming in 2011. FFXI on the other hand has been around for a long while and offers a unique gaming experience that you can't find in other MMO's and does so with the Final Fantasy IP and has done it well. I for one see it being around a lot longer than XIV lol.
I could always be wrong, problem is the only thing XIV has over XI is the graphics... and thats proving to not be enough :P.
Yeah FF11 offers a uniuqe style gameplay and a very deep storyline and easy battle system. Ive enjoyed 11 for years but i found something uniuque and fun to play in Lotro and DDO. Terra is what 14 should have been and cannot wait to get my hands on that mmo. I think 14 will end up having alot 11 features in the end.
In the P2P world FFXI is doing very well. Something along the lines of "Don't kill the golden goose" comes to mind.
I am not sure if it is 4 on the list (I think EQ2 actually have some few more players, but whatever), it is at the very least on the top 10 list so making it F2P is not something SE is forced to do.
Since LOTRO had about the same number of players and went F2P it can of course happen, but I think FF XIV is a more likely candidate than XI.
So there is always the possibilities but the same goes for any P2P game today.
FF XIV have a year to become better, or it will either be F2P or canceled.

Terra? You mean TERA?
Assuming an unreleased game will have the features you missed in a newly released one is a bit optimistic, wait until you have tried the game and we can talk, unless you are in the closed beta of course.
But I agree, they will have to change a lot of things, particularly the UI and borrowing from FF XI is the easiest and fastest way to fix the game up.

Not quite, FFXI had around 500k subs back in 2008 lol. LotRO capped at around 200-300k. FFXI has the unique advantage of being basically the only multi platform MMO available. PS3, PS2, 360 and PC all play together which gives it a little advantage over other MMO's. While LotRO dropped a good bit below the 200k mark awhile back, FFXI still has EvE like sub numbers.
Again though, FFXI has an advantage and that is likely why. The multi platform setup alone makes it one of the most unique and accessible MMO's to date. FFXIV won't even be going to the 360, just PS3 and PC.
If you played the game then you would know and agree with what i say. gone are the partys. Every goes and leeches and grinds in abyssea. Ive played this game for over 5 years Ive noticed a big dropp off in partys, Hell if your on Unicorn just go to the most poplular camp sites in the game and now ones there . Theyre all in Abessya or haning out in White gate. 11 should be a f2p game if all your going to do is grind.
Why would this game ever go F2P? it is on of the most subscribed P2P mmo.
And this is true as well.
1) WoW
2) Aion
3) EvE
4) FFXI

I would like to know where you got that information from
At least with a sub game they know that people won't tolerate bullshit and leave. With anet we have no recourse but to buy our own lube so our assholes don't get too stretched out from getting bent over a table at Anets will. - Hrimnir

I played with Abyssea. It encourages PUGS more than anything SE added, except the occasional Besieged or Campaign party. FFXI is a top heavy game. Most of the playerbase is in Abyssea or Whitegate since that is the content they have atm until the Hero add on comes out.
If they aren't level 70+, they are in Dunes/Qufim/Jungles, which has players of all levels thanks to level sync. There are no shortage of people to level with. It still has 9 more levels to go as well. XI isn't going F2P anytime soon.
Playing - EVE, Wurm
Retired - Final Fantasy XI, Anarchy Online, Mabinogi
FF11 is as likely to go F2P as WoW is. It still has a thriving community and now has an even greater one as all the people who stopped playing in anticipation of FF14 are let down and just went back to what they were originally playing.

Most incorrect statement I've ever heard ever.
Ever.
Well, the Abyssea statement is subjective. I happen to agree that it's a pretty weak "expansion" given what SE's given us in the past in terms of expansion content. I also don't think raising the level cap was necessary.
However, I agree with you on the RMT. The RMT haven't been a major issue in FFXI for a long time now, since the Task Force was put into action. But, well... people need something to hang their complaints on I suppose, even if it's outdated and no longer relevant.

I am willing to bet money that FFXI will remain P2P for at least 2-3 more years. At least until FFXIV completely establishes itself as the dominating mmo from SE.
Rlight now FFXI is doing quite well, as one of the most successful P2P mmos out today there is no real reason why SE would
want to make the game F2P at this point other than their unfathomable desire to shoot themselves in the foot.
Give it 3 years or so and maybe you will start to see signs of that popping up, but I wouldn't hold my breath that this game will

Honestly, I can't see SE making any of their games F2P .... ever.
Just seems like the company would wind up keeping it a sub game forever without any kind of change on that front.
Comments
Never.
wouldn't play any FF mmo even if it was f2p
