The content starts at Rank 20. Thats where class specific quests start, the Adventuring Companion, Guild Marks, Faction Guildleves and Parley. Everything starts to open around Rank 20.
There are no empty zones, locked areas have to be unlocked through the story. Same with the chocobos.
How do you know chocobos are not in the game? In FFXI you needed to be a certain level and do a quest to be able to use a chocobo. Same for airships.
You don't know shit about the game and yet feel the need to make a post with no factual information. All i see are speculation and lies.
What does, "I could of waited" even mean? Did you mean to say that "you could have waited"?
The point of the thread was saying the game was released early and imcomplete and unless Square fixes it up, people will lose interest and FF fans / casuals will leave the fray. Go and real the FFXIVcore.com forums, there are alot of posters in the 25-30 area and are still killing level 25 mobs and getting 20experience a mob, while needing over 100,000 to level. It could be the fatigue system in play, but alot of the higher level player have explored some zones, and they are locked off, or empty. Chocobos are proven to not be implemented yet by Square, I cannot find the info but Square did say it.
Also saying I know nothing about the game, your opinion. My post contains information i've read on the lodestone, on FFXIVcore and FF ZAM as well as here. I'm not going to put links to references to every sentence just for you, get over yourself.
the FFXIV forums, where less than 1% of the games population exists, where the hardcore enthuasiast that has spent 12-16 hours a day for the last 2 weeks leveling, is now well over half the level cap and is complaning that they cant rush the rest of it? brilliant, I guess the game should cater purely to them. they have pleanty else to level or to prepare for, but i guess that golden number by your rank is all that matters right? until its pointlessly maxxed?
Yes, the content isnt there, and judging by the interviews along with the whole casual and fatigue approach, they are limiting it INTENTIONALLY, all it takes is a few MB patch to unlock whatever is designed for lvl30-40. but as it seems they are waiting for more people to approach that area before doing so.
Yes they are controlling the content, in which 99% of us are not even at yet. but then you cant please every whiner in these forums... some will complain that the grind is too hard (even though pre-20 its a complete and utter joke) some will complain that time is too much of an advantage, and now people are complaining coz they cant steamrole through the game by playing 16 hours a day.
Lose Lose, I see all this whining, im approaching rank 20 in 2 classes (1 gathering, 1 gladiator) and for all we know within the next week or 2 itl be unlocked and the majority of us wouldnt have given a damn. but hey, cater to that 1% right? coz that should be the priority over the many things that need fixing....
It seems like as long as they cater to you all is well in the world and you are a blessed person.
If they cater to other people and discrepancies show up ... those people suck?!
Hyprocisy? thats what all the whiners on these boards are doing.... im going with the flow. I could of grinded gladiator to 25, but I know the content isnt there so im preparing in other ways, because I see more to an MMO than rushing a godamn number to sit on an invisable thrown.
Where in my post did I say purely my look? there are many things imperfect about this game. but whining about not being able to get to the level cap in 2 weeks is freaking ridiculous.
But yea... what a double standard, what a pointless response.
What's important to someone else might not be important to you and vice versa.
It doesn't mean that if they are on the opposite side of the equation that they are whiners.
I'm also surprised to see a lot of notices that the content is not in at present as opposed by the large amount of posts prior to release that this was because of beta. Now beta is gone all sorts of excuses seem to surface.
Alongside your reason being that it is deliberately delayed, I saw a couple of other reasons ... for example one saying its been postponed due to the foundation of the game is getting all the attention right now.
Which is it?
I guess only SE knows, well I sure hope they do.
Why don't you just accept it that this can be a problem for people instead of fingersucking all kinds of excuses and get offensive in the process.
The content is there in the post lvl 20 game, it's just very scant and was made so by SE for god knows what reason (I believe they said to encourage grouping...). The only content that SE decided not to focus on for launch was endgame content.
The whole 'building a foundation first' and 'to weed out the WoW kidz' excuses are just that: excuses. SE felt they had just enough content to keep players happy while they worked on getting the game more stable. Right now SE has a bunch of issues they are focusing on that should have been addressed in beta such as group SP gains, load times (sometimes clicking to teleport to another area can take a long time for no reason), etc.
Also if you read the interviews closely, you will see when they are asked about certain things (and they decide to respond) they mostly mention how this and that will be there for the PS3 launch (or ready shortly before).
There are 3 types of people in the world. 1.) Those who make things happen 2.) Those who watch things happen 3.) And those who wonder "What the %#*& just happened?!"

"Foundation" and "Intentionally restricting content" seem to go hand in hand, afterall, the higher you go the more need to party, but the party skill up system is broken... so whats the point in allowing the more diverse content when it would be problematic to even conquer?
There are obvious control mechanisms in place to stop progress, the highest rank at the time of the exploiting rank ups was 29, which was reported to be some sort of wall.... where even an exploit couldnt get past.
Then you have the more obvious things, like take me as a miner, I would need to get 5000 guild marks at rank 28 to be able to mine outside of the "current zones" , but... the only way to get marks currently is leves, which may or may not contain a quest to gain 500 marks... in the fastest possible time it would take me 28 days roughley to just get 1 ability from the guild.... because theyre not properly unlocked.
Its even worse for battle classes. ITs just not meant to be done yet quite clearly.
Then wouldn't it have been the smarter thing to delay release until all these foundation problems where solved?
You could have waited til 2011? Well, no offense, but why didn't you? Was the SE Yakuza blackmailing everyone, forcing everyone to play at launch. What with the open beta and all the coverage this game has gotten, the current state can't have been a surprise to anyone who was paying attention. Despite what the trolls will claim, FFXIVs release state is not at all out of line for a typical big title mmo launch. Perfomancewise, it has been smoother than most.
"Too early" is always going to be a matter of opinion. For myself and many others, we would much rather be playing now, warts and all, than wait 6 months for a potentially more polished game. If you are someone who feels otherwise, fine, but as has been stated many times, the only way this will ever change is if you and others that feel like you start voting with your wallet. Rushing right out and shelling out for the box, then complaining on the forums when the game doesnt meet your expectations, is going to accomplish exactly zilch!
Personally, I really don't get it. Wouldn't you have been much better off letting all the "fanboys" pay to finish the beta test for you? Eventually, the game will be improved to your satisfaction, or it will fail, and you can gloat about how SE never got any of your money.
People will come in here and say that you should work on something else if you can't go any further. I guess it's time you started doing 1 of these three things:
1. Level another adventure class
2. Craft
3. Gather
It really doesn't matter what YOU want to do. What matters is what THE GAME wants you to do.
Let me guess, your next sentence was: FF14 is a niche game if you dont like it, it wasnt meant for you ? When will people understand that the customer is king and not the dev? Even if you did like the niche part of the game it is still a broken niche game. Unacceptable, they wont have a penny from me.
Sulthar before you reply to anymore posts please go to Wikipedia and look up irony. What are the teaching kids in school these days lol.

One of the smartest most logical posts on this board.
Severwise the game has been one of the smoothest, the might WoW's first month was nothing but a lag out... and while server stability is a big issue SE has already done that and is already underway on improving the core, hell we are getting better orginized market wards this week, possible other things along with it.
I would rather be playing this WORKING game now, considering we are lucky to get it this early, since the originally idea was to release both versions together. less congestion, less problems.
That being said, like any other MMO board, the whiners that label people "fanboys" for liking the current state of the game or at least seeing it as playable/enjoyable should seriously stop being in denial, realize this games direction isnt for you, go back to whatever MMO you came from... OH WAIT, your not doubt bored of WoW clones like the rest of us...
People whining about the grind just dont enjoy anything but an endgame, or cba to do it multiple times, and again, are in denial and should go back to whatever endgame mmo they came from.

No content = warts?
hmm, ok.
Define content? Ive been playing for a good 60-80-100 (who knows) hours now and I havnt stopped doing things... fed ex quests is content i guess?

If SE locks content due to a bug in party-mode, it's too early.

Come on >.<.
Are you really naive enough to think like that?
How is that naive? You paid good money for the game and can expect, or rather demand a bare minimum of playability for it. Now, for some reason, a bug persists through a number of beta phases, forcing SE to lock group content.
I wonder how you can still stand there and defend it? It's downright outrageous.
Again, nothing I have experienced myself, but simply taking information from the people posting it.
How does that make any sense? You just payed 50 bucks (I think) for the game. Yet they decide that, even though you have reached the point of going through said content, you aren't allowed to do so just yet? Again, how does that make any sense?
Note that I'm not talking out of experience, but simply going by what you are stating here.
No, you're right, it's simply poor game design, through and through. He, and others using that same weak argument, are just making excuses for them (SE).

Entitled to your opinion, I just see it as another way of doing the same old controlling stuff, by any of this logic why would I bother struggeling for hours on end day n day out on WoW Raids when theyre just oging to nerf it all by 30% eventually?

Eh? I allready replied to you in a previous post about this. Did you allready forget?
Reminder: Some people play in a different way then you and get confronted by this issue of content shortage.
The argument that we paid $50 for unfinished game is stupid. You name one MMO that had all content released at release? I bet you can't because that's why we pay monthly for them. We don't expect the game to be final at release as well that makes not feel like a living breathing world that is always changing. And, you know what I think FFXIV is the first mmo in a long time that has actually made me feel like I was in virtual world!
If you don't like move on! Why are you in this forum for a game you don't like? Do you really have nothing better in life to do other than just cause flame wars on forums?

(And again you get offensive!)
But your under some kind of mindset that a product strictly has to appeal to everyone? and an MMO right out the door? I go back to my "Naive" comment, your asking for a game fresh out on a very modern and expensive engine to feature everything games from years ago have right off the bat? its just unrealistic.
It does not look like that all the hate and badmouthing has players kept from playing FF XIV.
At Saturday the numbers at Palamecia were around 2988 at highest and 2500 for the most time i checked it.
This does not mean the numbers wont change but that belongs to future updates and fixes as well as how much FF XIV manages to keep its players satisfied.
For me doing the Guildleves with friends in a duo or trio setup is gameplay for 3 to 4 or even 5 hours every time, i had my first fraction leve yesterday from which i got 32k money and a chestpiece, the mainquest keeps me interested, also the crafting...i dont feel the urge to rush and have a relaxed and interesting and fun time.
From my experience there is not only a buttonsmashing mmo crowd so i forsee that this game will be the most successfull AAA-P2P-MMORPG since WoW launched making all the haters boiling even more^^

When it comes down to people and how they spend their money, "to each his own" applies. However, I comment here based on what people say and then applying my logic to it.
To me, it is illogical to accept the fact that a developer locks out content because of a bug that should have been squashed pre-release. It is even more illogical to defend such a decision on their part, even though at this point it is a solid decision. It still is, however, something that should have been fixed prior to release.
In essence, you paid for the box (And probably even set up a subscription to boot) of a game that doesn't allow you to progress as was designed to, the fault of that lying with the developer.
Lastly, I don't have to play the game to comment on facts stated by the people posting here. It's not like I was the one saying how FF14 has no content or whatever.
In defense of whomever you are replying to: Name me one MMO that locked out content in a release version due to "unforseen" bugs?
That said, I think this topic is far from being a flame war between lovers and haters. Atleast, considering what I'm used to seeing on these boards :P.
There is playability, and no, you cant demand anything, granted, to some extent it is better to appease your fanbase, but whos to say your way is best either?
IF your not even experiancing it why are you in this forum or even commenting? I dont get it.
Theres no denying this was rushed out the door, even the beta had very little time, but its quite clear that the problems in beta are being worked on, unlike most mmos though the beta was so small it was unrealistic to fix up all the issues.
As far as progression goes, whos to say this isnt or is intended, the ingame mechanics, like I explained with the requirments of guild marks to progress as a miner, also hint that they are controlling the rate of whic hthe majority progress, or not trying to destroy the economony by letting no lifers level up ridiculously quickly to inflate the market with anything they get thier hands on within the first few weeks of the games launch.
Its a different approach, but quite a few of us have come to the agreement that ... "Hey, its different, doesnt effect the majority, let them focus on the things that REALLY need attention".
The party "bug" is very real, but what if its a "Party size cap" for progression currently in place?
And tbh, if you base your game tastes and your decisions to buy a game on forums where more haters spend more time than the ones that actually like the games, then your just shooting yourself in the foot, many of the negativities are blown way out of porportion based on peoples ridiculous, downright stupid expectations.
Based on my experience in beta and decided not to buy the game. I'm in 'wait and see' mode now and listening to what my friends that are playing think. I know about 10 folks playing and the deal-breaker for all of them is the UI/Interface which they say is very, very poorly done.

Thanks for the normal response . A sight for sore eyes. I can understand the position you just explained. There does seem to be some logic to it. And yes, it is different, unconventional. Which is why I couldn't understand it at the time.
I still don't agree with it, as a whole. I still think it shouldn't have happened to begin with. And frankly, if their intention is to limit the powergamers to stabilize the economy, they should just say so? Or have they already? I don't know.
As for me not playing FF14; I kinda made up my mind in beta. Just didn't feel right to me. I still have it on my radar, though. In the meantime, I'm happy discussing things like this (While at the same time not trying to come across as a flamer xD).

One thing I have learned about SE is that they have the worst Public Relations department that I have seen in any game company(well Sony might edge out ahead). Getting an answer from them about anything is next to impossible.

I play a lot of MMOs and I've NEVER played from at launch that was "finished" or has full content for later levels 2 WEEKS after launch.
If your plan was to only sub 1 month, wait for a miracle or quit, then im sorry sir but you wasted like $90 and time. I suggest in the future you keep an open mind about gaming. Especially on new release MMOs otherwise you have a long future of forum flaming and MMO bashing to look forward to.

1.) Those who make things happen
2.) Those who watch things happen
3.) And those who wonder "What the %#*& just happened?!"
Sulthar before you reply to anymore posts please go to Wikipedia and look up irony. What are the teaching kids in school these days lol.
No content = warts?
hmm, ok.
There is playability, and no, you cant demand anything, granted, to some extent it is better to appease your fanbase, but whos to say your way is best either?
IF your not even experiancing it why are you in this forum or even commenting? I dont get it.
Eh? I allready replied to you in a previous post about this. Did you allready forget?
Reminder: Some people play in a different way then you and get confronted by this issue of content shortage.
(And again you get offensive!)

thats why im waiting until 2011..
