Tis the truth. As long as it's MMO related it's within the user's right to post/talk about it.
Veritas Vos Liberabit- The truth will set you free.
But because the person discussing this could not ARGUE the identical nature of CLONES.....they changed the subject.
clones develop the same way as identical twins. clones do not have the same fingerprints and if raised in different environments will be different.
You really need to try harder if you ever expect to win an argument.
You really need to learn how to read Webster's.
You're obviously arguing just for the sake of arguing, because to say that people playing WoW would LEAVE WoW for a game exactly LIKE WoW....is ignorant.
You are just overemphasizing the word "clone" to attempt to make others look incoherent.
WoW clone does not mean an exact copy of the game anymore. It is used to refer to a game that used many of WoW's features and playstyles. Times change, and now the generally accepted term "WoW Clone" means something other than an exact copy. For whatever reason, you refuse to see this.
Which is strange in and of itself, since GW2 is so dramatically different from WoW that it's amazing people can call it a clone with a straight face, unless of course they're trolling. Just a few major differences:
* No more "trinity". No dedicated tanks, dps or healers. All players fulfill all roles of damage, control and support.
* No more exponentially increasing leveling curve. In other words, same amount of time to level from, say, 39-40 as 79-80.
* No more quests. Instead there are dynamic events which are constantly kicking off whether or not players are around. You join in and particilate and receive equal rewards. No need to party up, no mob tagging, no fighting over loot. Dynamic event results are persistent; the world stays changed by the event until future events change things.
* No more fighting over resources. If you see a copper node, mine away. If someone else comes along and mines it first, it's only gets used for them, not you.
* Active combat style which involved tactics in addition to strategy. No more simply "Don't stand in the fire" style of combat, you need to pay attention to terrain, positioning, flanking, etc. Every fight will be different, no single strategy to be copied by everyone else.
There's more, but that's just a start. If you think this is a WoW-clone, you really need to do a little research. Different games completely. There's a good chance GW2 will pull many WoW players over to try it with the no-subscription-fee model. It'll be up to the individuals as to where they stay. Possibly some will quit WoW, others won't. Only time will tell.
Honestly how can one resist a game with such lush graphics and vibrant gameplay?
I'll tell you what the real threat to WoW will be... Guild wars 2, a game that is currently on the works and it is not currently known when it will come out, and here is why:
GW was designed by ex-blizzard employees, they even helped in the development of the first stages of WoW... they designed battle net, they helped in the creation of diablo, starcraft and the warcraft series. We can only speculate how good GW2 will be based on the level of quality that the current GW game series provide, here are some things to consider about the current Guild Wars:
The game looks spectacular, and can run decently on low end computers just like WoW.
Its engine is way better programmed, never crashes, takes little space in your hard drive, and it loads very fast.
PVE is amazing, the quests and the zones are beautiful, it has great music, and it is a pleasure to explore the world. The game can be very tactical, and it in terms of difficulty, it would make your average WoW hardcore raider cry on his knees.
PVP is balanced... yes... the game is very balanced, and very well thought out when it comes to PVP combat. There are no overpowered abilities or class combos etc. Skill is the only thing that matters... One thing that WoW needs to learn from GW is not to balance PVE around PVP! In GW certain skills are specially altered when a person enters pvp combat.
Gear is not a big factor in GW... What matters is your skill set and the way your distribute your attributes. There is no such thing as endgame gear in GW that will make you able to roll your face on the keyboard while laughing at players or pve monsters.... In GW if you don't pay attention to what your are doing you are a goner... The game forces you to use your brain.
You can solo everything in the game (Theoretically) with the add of computer controlled henchmen and heroes (special NCPS that you can manually control and gear) you don't need people to quest around or do instances.
GW has no monthly fees!.
GW has over 6 million subscribers... I know I know... WoW has 11 million... But at least it is safe to say that GW has a healthy population level.
----
In spite all of its advantages, GW lacks a very crucial thing that WoW has... raids and the massive amount of content. You can only have up to 8 players in your party for either pvp or pve, also, another factor that some people do not find appealing, is that the game is instanced, meaning that when you get out of towns and go out into the world you get your own copy of the world, so you won't run into other players in the middle of your quests of explorations.
Guild wars 2 has promised to address all these negative factors while bringing new stuff to the table... If they do it right, GW 2 will really become serious competition for WoW.
I can resist the game as I did GW 1, tbh dumbing down MMOs to the point where they arent MMORPGs anymore just because people want to rush to the end just a little quicker or read a story book doesn't quite appeal to me, and it won't kill WOW , Blizzard will kill WOW and that is all there is to it.
Companions? Rather have real players to play aside with me, Soloing ? Sorry rather run quests or missons with friends, Gear isnt important? It wouldn't be if they didnt make you run the treadmill and just let you craft the stuff like in real player economies, PVP you mean the meaningless PVP that prevails in over 95% of MMOs based off of arenas fighting for honor or trinkets, when in MMOs like EVE and DF you can take more than just a trinket you can take a city or an enemies gear or kill a captain of a ship and sail into the sunset with it, or fight in a massive fleet battle and emerge victorius and salvage the burning wrecks of starships and walk away with some loot and know a well coordinated battle earned you some riches, or how about that raiding? you mean the pre-scripted dance a thon that you run over 200 time and then have to compete with greedy and selfish douchebags for that one piece of loot you worked hard for, why do that when you can raid a enemy city and pluck what you need from them where it isnt pre-scripted or predictable and everyone gets loot evenly?
I don't know about you but I value freedom more and have a hell of a more fun time doing what I want and not what the devs THINK I want to do by restricting me just for the sake of their story or not hurting the feelings of over-sensitive , extremely poor players with poor time management skills due to not making time to play MMO's so they feel it had to be watered down to suit their incompetence.

There's a hint of truth in what you say, but it's washed away by your arrogance and (wrongfully placed) superiority.
People like you should stick to console shooters, rather than pollute MMO communities .
I'm no Blizz fanboy but seriously, GW2 won't kill wow for the simple reason it has no subs. Most people only sub to one or maybe at a stretch two p2p games. If they sub to WoW and can pick up GW2 for the price of the box and not have to pay any more, then GW2 won't kill WoW.
Only WoW will kill WoW. I'm highly anticipating SWTOR, and I think it will do well, but its success will do little to kill WoW.
Im pretty sure time will kill WoW
GW2 will do even less at any level of success. It isn't even subbed, so increased monthly expenses won't be an issue.
Even though GW2 won't increase monthly expenses few will keep their WoW subs active while playing it. The question is will it be long enough for players not to look back ever again.

I agree that since GW 2 is subfree will it's impact on P2P games be lower than other P2P games. But people only have so much time so some people will cancel their subs since their issue is time and not money.
But Wow will eventually die after years of declining, it happens eventually with everything. If Blizz releases Wow 2 that might go a lot faster but matter what it will first run with few subs for a few years (like UO today) but eventually it will cost too much to keep it running and then Blizzard will kill it. Maybe in 10 years from now or so.
But Wows days as largest western MMO will end soon, it is pretty old now and while it gained subs in China it lost them in US and particularly Europe. GW2 might pass soon it but I am not sure if a B2P game should be counted against P2P (Wows Chinese subs messes things up even more).

he wasnt arrogant.... he was sincere at least and visionary at best.
Congratulations to WoW for hitting the 12million subscriber milestone. History is still being made....
Lol at all the people that thought WoW was dying. Especially the ones on the gw2g forums who always claim it is clearly hemorraghing players.
I really do wish people would actually educate themselves before formulating an opinion on anything.

Lol some people never learn. WoW isn't going anywhere in the west anytime soon. To think that gw2 or tor can match it's subscribers even in the west is delusional.
The ease with which predictions are made on these forums: Fratman: "I'm saying Spring 2012 at the earliest [for TOR release]. Anyone still clinging to 2011 is deluding themself at this point."

Actually, it wasn't such a strange thought.
A recent study for example showed that WoW's market share in the west had decreased from 60% in 2008 to 54% in 2009.
So, not really that delusional nor uneducated
No such study would be accurate because blizzard rarely releases their numbers. So yea it was delusional or inaccurate if a study like that existed.
Also, that could mean the market grew, not necessarily that blizzard's subscriber base shrunk. So again it would be delusional or uneducated to look at the data incorrectly and out of context just because someone wanted to spin it negatively against wow.

Why are people so worried about WOW getting killed?
I mean if a game is fun play it, if not don't.
When GW2 comes out I will get it, if it's great i will play it, if not then i won't.
Either way i could care less if other people think it's better than WOW or not.
The MMO-community has become so retarded after WOW hit the shelves. Seriously, who fucking cares?
