First Gamestop and now Gametrailers. People are finally starting to see the light.
It's a real shame, because I really like the game. In fact I haven't liked one this much since I started MMOs. It's a shame no-one seems to share my opinion. Maybe I'm just able to look past faults in the UI and so on. Though accessibility is always appreciated.
Well thats to reviews that say the same thing only Game Trailer's review says it in a differnt way resulting, as they put it, "in a broken and complete mess." But wait, there are more reviews to follow so let us not be hasty my freinds, as another poster had mentioned, it is unjust to review a game within 2.3 months of release.
Yet the average USER score is 8.9 Which opinion do you think holds more weight?
When the users consist of people willing to play a bad game? I'll side with the people that don't have a mental deficiency.
See, there are time in life where the "but it's my opinion" statement doesn't work. This is one of them. FFXIV is a travesty of a game and when a company can use the good name it has built up over the decades to unleash such utter crap upon it's fans, it doesn't deserve to remain in business.
I genuinely hope that Square Enix goes under. They've proven time and time again that they don't care what their fans and consumers want to play. They want to live in a bubble and design games that only the most masochistic, die hard fan would have an interest in suffering through.
QFT. You just defended an opinion with an opinion. The black hole that you've created has doomed us all!!!!

No, no it is not. In fact, true reviews should be released at the same time as the game itself. Critical reviews are a meaningful way for potential consumers to measure whether or not a game is right for them. While no one can agree that every review source is worth listening to or trusting, find one that you have established trust in or looking at the combined aspects of a few can give you a solid understanding of what to expect.
It is ludicrous to believe that a game should not be reviewed in its launched state. For an MMO the advantage to a late review is that it allows companies time to patch in updates and add additional content. When it is content that should have been in upon release this is unforgivable. As for patches, often this is necessary and an experienced reviewer will make note that many bugs or issues should be patched shortly.
Final Fantasy is either the most unfinished MMO I've ever seen at release or the developers at Square that worked on the project truly have no idea what they are doing and have no right to design games. The world they live and game in is not the same world the rest of us do.
"Things are a mess right now. Given how tedious much of the game is, having to fight the controls and mechanics pushes things to the breaking point. You can put up with it and get by if you're irrationally determined, but it doesn't change the fact that FFXIV was released in a state that is completely unacceptable for a finished product." - 6:53 in the video.
One of the many quotable lines in this review. Every new review that gets posted baffles me all the more as to why this game turned out like it did. If some folks are having fun, great! Still, this type of statement is pretty clear about the state of things at the moment.

You MUST be shrooming. What good would these critical reviews of a game be if they were released too late to stop people from buying terrible games? Who would even listen to these people? The fact that you want to wait 2-3 months before reviewing games means one of two things. Either A, you're a total fanboy of this game and think that somehow it will get drastically better in 2-3 months, or B, you don't mind wasting money on terrible games.
It's as if these die hard ff fans saw the "Please wait to review our game for 4 weeks!" billboard and decided it was best to go around saying..."YEAH wait 2 months or your review doesn't matter!". I'm sorry to dissappoint, but reviewing a game at release is extremely important for gamers and Gamers. People on the fence need to see the opinions from credible sources in order to make a financial and timely decision. The verdict is out.

No, perfectly fine just to review a MMO in its launch state. Truly MMO's are different animals then normal games. Thats why I like MMORPG.com's re-review setup though I feel they wait too long. Or go IGN's route with FFXIV and do a daily in progress review.
Yes people will always have something to bitch about at launch, lag, end game content and so forth. But its not excusable technical issues that the reviews are having a problem with. The basic control setup seems to be flawed. Thats not something that is going to be fixed right away. Travel time can probably be fixed easily, at least the teleportation part. Don't know if mounts will be easy. I didn't even get half way into the review and I know that some of the major flaws will take some time to work out. I shouldn't have to wait half a year for a review.
To put another way if a single player RPG launched with major flaws would you ask a review to be postoned many months? No you probably wouldn't. So why should a MMORPG be any different.
Wait, that review seemed very similar to the thousands of open beta reviews. Almost 3 weeks and nothing has changed from the Beta as a whole.
Maybe I'm wrong but I've always considered the point of open beta to be purely stress testing and perhaps find any lingering game breaking bugs. Not to implement features that player have a problem with or want added in.
All I can do is shake my head at this point. The thrashings will continue. No reputable reviewer is going to reccomend this game in it's current state. If you're the type of person that will play an MMO based on potential, then sure play it, but if you're looking for fun look elsewhere. Every single task in this game is mind numbing, and that problem is further compounded by the terrible way players interact with the mind numbing tasks. It's like a design goal was to suck out as much fun as possible and replace it with tedium. Seriously, did they not have any form of QA? I think Tanaka-san and the rest of his crew just ran around the office sniffing each others farts saying how great the game is.
The thing that pisses me off the most -- the dolts at SE asked reviewers not to review their game for a month. Well, what the hell... they're comfortable taking my damn money, but they're not comfortable with a review. I was somewhat of an SE fanboy for a long long time, but they have done something I thought SE was incapable of -- that is, releasing a half-done, under-developed, shit stain of a video game. This game easily needs another six months of development. I'll be truly impressed if they keep a quarter of their population after the first free month.
This was a great review, the game is what it is - a complete mess. Major reviewers are saying it, a lot of the players that have played the game are saying it. If you do find any enjoyment in this game, awesome. But for the people who spent $75+ on this and are not happy I am sorry lol, that does suck.
A pretty accurate review overall, and I agree with the score they gave. However, I disliked how the reviewer kept trying to bring up useless points to complain about just for the sake of wanting to add more complaints to the review and to make certain features of the game seem worse than they really are.
Comparing the combat to the intro FMV? Complaining about text bubbles? Complaining about footstep sound effects? NO JUMPING?!
Felt as if he was just reaching at straws a lot of the time when looking for things to criticize. It also looks like he only bothered to create a character in Girdania and nowhere else, which seems like a pretty lazy thing to do.
But like I said, I agree with a lot of what the reviewer had to say.
gametrailers always starts their reviews seemingly objective but when it goes on they tend to knock down on just the bad things a game has to offer if it has. market wards: taken care of this weekly update. okay what next?
yes a ton to do. and YES the game is boring for people that wan't many many different things to do. but it sure is not for me.
but i have to agree: bringing out an mmo in this kind of state worldwide is a shame and SE should be kicked in the face for that. SE knew if they would've just released it in japan first (like ffxi) the game wouldve failed instantly. So SE planed on worldwide release and use us a mega-beta-users. Shameful and disrespecting. but it still like the game though
Yet the average USER score is 8.9 Which opinion do you think holds more weight?
Well there are people who think that "Enter the Matrix" is the best game on the planet for whatever reason. Doesn't change the facts. Everything can be enjoyed by someone, even slaps to the face or getting spanked by a whip (and there are MANY people who even pay hefty sums for getting a "treatment" like that).

Well, out of how many votes? If it's 0-100 I don't trust it. I just want them to improve this so I can buy it from them.

Very good review of a crappy game.

another excellent spot on review. i agree 110%
This game is a tragic mess. I am so disappointed. After waiting a handful of years I have wasted $75 on something that irritates me. Sigh @ SE.

By the Nines, Game trailers Tore FF14 and square enix a new one.

An extremely unfair review focused entirely on the negative. I know the game isn't perfect but that was a pretty one-sided perspective.
