Is it as hard to get gold in this as it was in mabinogi?
It's a lot easier than Mabinogi. Missions and Quests rewards a decent amount of Gold and the Auction House allows you to buy items at pretty low prices. Although I'm not rich or anything, personally I've never ran out of money to buy the items I needed (wether it be skills or crafted items) but the experience can differs from players to players. But overall, much easier than Mabinogi (making gold in Mabinogi is hell....)
There are two really good ways to get gold in Vind;
1. Do all the side missions that you can while in a dungeon, each one adds to a reward tally. The only problem there is that other players are retarded, and won't listen when you tell them to "spear kill", "kick kill" or "object kill" a boss. They are just too busy wanting to clear the dungeon as fast as possible so they can run it again. It's too bad too, because these people then complain about being broke a short time later, and can't figure out why.
2. Auction House. The trick is to have two characters you play as primarily. On the first, you wanna make all the gear and other crap that certain quests want you to do, then send that to the second once finished with it. Then with the second, basically sell all the materials on the AH, since you already have the goods that they are used to make. Some items aren't worth dealing with, but the new enhancement stones, ice crystals, silver ore and other stuff sell for a LOT of money, and fast. Gotta get an idea of which items to hold onto for the AH, and which ones to just sell off. Plus, keep in mind the inventory limitations, so once you have the one char make all the gear you'll need for those quests, sell everything from the prior dungeon. Done with Hoarfrost? Sell everything from the ruins. Hoarding isn't neccesary at all, since most of that crap can be bought cheap on hte AH at a moment's notice, just remember to keep the rare/expensive stuff.

Yeah, gold really isn't an issue in this game. The people who are broke are usually broke because they either 1) buy ALL their stuff off the market at excessive prices as soon as it's available, rather than find/craft at least some of it themselves, or 2) since OB began, broke their wallets trying to dye their armour a certain colour. There are already forum stories of people blowing over a million gold on trying to get a particular colour.

Pretty much this. However I would suggest if you plan on playing another character OR want to make a ton when a new character is released learn what the harder to get/items people need alot of and stick them on another toon. The reason being is when a new character is released there is going to be a huge influx of people playing the lower level boats again and rather than farm the instances over and over again they will just buy what they need. So it saves you money if you play the new character or it makes you a TON of money if you dont.
Just as an example when Evie was released I had MORE than enough quest items/crafting items saved up. Not only did I have everything I needed for a quest (except items that ONLY drop once you have the quest) I had excess. So my Evie was always in the gear at level + plenty of mats for my staves but I made over 10mil in the first week alone with just boat 1 and 2 materials. When more Evie start hitting boat 3 I'm going to make that or more just on red spider webs and Blood-Sucking plants.
Oh and when just starting. Just take your time and farm everything yourself. I havent sent my Evie a dime but the only thing I have bought is items you have to buy from npc's, 2ndary weapons, and repairs. Oh and the price of crafting an item and my Evie has over 500k on her atm with nothing else to purchase untill scythe comes out. That 500k is JUST from running dungeons/quest rewards.
