    Most definatley.

My only question is this: Does anyone have a problem if I do?

That's so narrow minded it's beyond belief. ANYONE BEYOND THIS MARKER HAS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THEM!

No, I just don't identify with a female character, just like you PROBABLY don't watch certain television shows because you can't identify with it. I totally know the kind of man I want to be, so it's easy to project that into a fantasy setting as something glorified and amazing. I don't want to be a woman, simply because I can't imagine an interesting female character; it's not my mindset. I'm sure there's plenty of females who feel the same way...

...and they're not INSECURE for it, they just might identify with a character more like themselves.

As disputable as some of this might be (you can't imagaine an interesting female character? That's a pity really), matters of taste where not what i was talking about. I was only talking about the notion of playing a character from the other gender as bizzare, that's all.

I play female chars always, i like wachting at the female toon, even if it's just pixelated. Maybe I have some kind of mind problem, but I dont care.

Nothing wrong with you, nor anyone that hasn't got a problem with it... someone said it's weird to like virtual sex-appeal... oh well... so what about those magazines boys like to read so much, they're very real... right ? i mean the person exists.. but is it like she is actually there ?... and even better , when people don't buy boys magazines, they go ONLINE to the virtual web surfing world to find it... and you people talk about virtual to me now... just because it is a 3d program doesn't make it less appealing... it does resemble the one  thing boys like so much... even if it's not real... who the frakk cares ? I'ts not like you'll end up with that super bomb on the 7th page of the last month's edition... be real, stop BS'ing around.

They're just toons for crying out loud lol.

It's my experience that this excuse only comes from homophobes. They are scared that being a known 'mangina' will make them gay in the minds of others, so they try to turn it into something macho and lecherous. It's hilarious.

Or maybe there's the slight chance that they possibly like the way women look.

Just saying... when guys put up a Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders or Charlie's Angels poster in their room (or whatever is sexy these days), it usually has less to do with homophobia or a yearning to weild pom-poms and a lot more to do with the fact that the girls are hot. Keep thinking it's some deep-rooted psychological issue, though. It makes for much more interesting threads. :)

There isn't a "right" or "wrong" way to play, if you want to use a screwdriver to put nails into wood, have at it, simply don't complain when the guy next to you with the hammer is doing it much better and easier. - Allein

The only time I roll female characters is when I feel their size gives a pvp advantage of some sort, whether it be harder to track, smaller hit box (this is rarely ever the case) or whatever.

If I am playing casually I go with male chars though.

if I have to look at a characters ass for the majority of my play time, I at least want it to be an attractive ass.

    Female ass FTW

So you are playing an Asura in GW2?

You get treated 10 times better as a female avatar, so most definately!

The majority of people who play MMORPGs are males who play as female characters to the point males literally have to ask female characters "are you really a girl in real life" as a very common question.

There are many good reasons to play opposing gender characters. Far too many to list. There is no crime either in playing as either gender.

This thread question is the same as asking "Are you willing to play the opposite color in chess?" its really not much consequence beyond the shifting of roles and the outlook of things. I prefer to have fun though. I like male characters in games with the most realistic graphics. Games that are more cartoonish and anime-ish, I prefer female characters.

We are talking about gender right now not race.  I don't care which race I play but I will see what their racial differences are first.

Of course I'd play a female gender.  Who gives a rat's behind what I play or what others play?  It sounds like the OP has some personal issues regarding "others' enjoyment/fun" in games.  Sheesh, get a life.

And some people say it's very bizarre to worry about what other people find enjoyable in their gaming.  To the OP: Yes, you take yourself and this question entirely too seriously.  LMAO

For me it is all based off of my first RPG, Diablo 2, haha.

    Males:

    Barbarians (aka fighters/warriors)

    Paladin (fighters with some magic)

    Necromancer (dark mages/undead pets)

    Druid (nature pets)

    Females:

    Sorceress (all other magic users)

    Assassin (rouges)

    Amazon (ranger)

Thats about it. I didn't really care about the sex of the individual character, but also didn't want a sausage fest on my character rosters, so I decided this is the best system to work it out.

I play a female character when the male characters look crap. Probably best example is Aion, I was amazed at how differently people treat you.

I would play females when it's necessary, like gender assigned classes, or when the class looks/fits better with the female gender (clerics, mages, archers, etc.) Otherwise I'm always playing male

Those people should stop living in the middle ages in my opinion.

Let's play Fallen Earth (blind, 300 episodes)

Let's play Guild Wars 2 (blind, 45 episodes)

I think it's already been established that men play women in games, but I don't know why that's an odd thing nor why people assume that has something to do with latent homosexuality.

Are you saying you never played Bayonetta? Final Fantasy 13? Parasite Eve? Saga Frontier? There are some extremely EPIC games where the main hero, or one of them in the case of Saga Frontier, is female. In some cases, you don't even get the choice to choose your gender, that makes any guy playing instantly gay? Or wierd? Pull your heads out of your asses, please.

I usually have a 1:1 ratio of male and female characters, mostly because I love the armor art. I like to see all the various styles and how they look on both genders. I also enjoy making my female characters Warriors, and my male characters Mages/Healers, because it goes against the social bias and can be fun. Nothing wrong with a woman that can kick ass.

Men are ugly, women are pretty. Most MMOs only let you create pretty avatars. It also gets me kickass girl that obeys my every whim. Erm.

Everything else being equal I choose males.

  • eye_meye_m Member UncommonPosts: 3,317

absolutely.  I've reached that age in my life where I really don't care about what other people think I should do,  Most people call it "being an adult"

All of my posts are either intelligent, thought provoking, funny, satirical, sarcastic or intentionally disrespectful. Take your pick.

I get banned in the forums for games I love, so lets see if I do better in the forums for games I hate.

I enjoy the serenity of not caring what your opinion is.

I don't hate much, but I hate Apple© with a passion. If Steve Jobs was alive, I would punch him in the face.

No, Im a man and proud of it. Why would I want to play a female character? Don't see the point...

Last time I checked the most powerful person in the world is a man. So is the strongest, fastest and smartest (=Stephen Hawking). So again, why would I not play a man?

  • ShinamiShinami Member UncommonPosts: 825

I love the Reverse Discrimination which exists.

Everyone claims "people are equal online" but the very same people, mostly power gamers know the advantage of playing females to males. Specially if they play for looks. I love the contrast also that the developers play into such discrimination...Making males very big and martial and females very skiny where usually some aneorexic female one-shots a male with a fireball or some other spell.

I play both genders depending on what I find in-game. My focus in roleplaying is more towards honoring the character I am playing as. Some people actually are better playing the opposite gender. Others are better sticking to their same gender.

Oh yes...for the one who said "Saga Frontier"....Hands down, Asellus became one of my favorite characters ever due to how deep that one storyline was. ^_^

Playing characters that are different genders than you?  NOT weird.

I'm female. My mains are always female, BUT....I also always have one or two male alts in my "stable" of characters. Why?  Because some races just look better male....or I think their armor looks better....or the class I choose just seems more suited, to me, fo be male....or whatever.

I don't find it to be a big issue.

    /agree

As a female, I made my first male character this weekend.  Why?  Because he looked better in the Halloween costume I bought  than a female would, lol.

My husband makes female characters from time to time because of their stats--in some games they rank higher in agility and stamina.  Also, in some games the men look just awful but the women don't.

In one game I played, a girl I knew made male-only chars because she wished to avoid the ogling that abounded in that particular game. :)

On the other hand, a guy I knew in that same game made female-only chars because he wanted to get all the good presents those same oglers handed out!

Personally, I think there could be all sorts of reasons for making other-gender avatars.

Maybe the fact that men likes to play women characters for the look is a way to express what they don't in real life weaking funky clothes.

  • jusomdudejusomdude Member RarePosts: 2,706

I might play female characters for bank alts or something but not for any serious character.
