Not that it matters, but I for one believe that the way this game should have been done is something like this.
The game universe would have been composed of a MASSIVE Starmap with hundreds of starsystems. Each Faction.. IE Space Marines, Chaos, Orks, Eldar would be their own Seperate faction. (other factions could come in time). Each Faction would have a starting Star system. Space Marines for example would be earth.
As players traveled to different worlds they would battle for control of those worlds. Which would also be inhabited by Natives or NPC forces of the faction which last conquered it. The longer a World Remained in the control of a faction the stronger the Garrison would become IE more NPC guardians and heavy armor. Also each world your faction controlled could yield certain types of resources for your faction overall. If a guild (army) claimed the world in the name of the emp... errr umm their faction. The guild would also recieve a percentage of the resources the world would give. Ohh for fun Spacehulks could be random things you could come into contact with. Which could hold powerful relics for players aboard them.
Travelling to different worlds would require using Jumpships, NPC Jumpships would be available for anyone in the faction to use. However they would only travel to key worlds on certain schedules. Also making multiple stops.. Much like the old boat systems of Everquest 1. Guilds (chapters, legions, armies, or whatever you want to call them) could also eventually attain their own jump ships or fleet of jump ships. Which would allow for faster and easier travel across the galaxy. Distance still would matter, allowing for bigger more advanced Jumpships to be aquired, that could jump further distances without stopping to recharge. This could be more advanced technology that would have to be researched or maybe even found on old space hulks. I dont see space combat as being a big part of this. More akin to opening up a starmap and plotting a coarse then the ship just travels to the destination. Much like flightpaths found in other games but on a much more massive and complex scale.
If a world your faction controlled came under enemy attack, then an SOS would be issued allowing players to move to attempt to help defend it. Also Guild leaders (army Commanders) could gain access to strategical tools to help them coordinate attacks.
In a system like this they could set every so many worlds to a different server. Connecting all the servers to make one massive galaxy in which players could travel between.
Using a 2 faction in 40k is just completely absurd. I still have no interest in playing this when it comes out. There could have been alot of potential for a 40k game. I will be awating GW2 and probably let this one pass on by. Maybe one day someone will make a Warmachine/Hordes game... Now that would make for an awesome MMO if done correctly.
Earth is the core planet of the Imperium and it's where all the Normal humans reside the Space Marines are the augmented super soldier force that protect the rest of the imperium from serious harm.
The Imperial Guard probably have some small bases on Earth there's a large one on the Moon.
The biggest problem with 2 factions is this is an MMO, not an RTS. If it were an RTS it would be okay, you group up your teams of orks, put chaos marines around them, etc. and go to war. But in an MMO, you'll have a group where the MT is a chaos marine, the ranged DPS is an Ork, and your healer is a Dark Eldar, all of you just hanging out together and chatting while killing monsters for phat lewts. Where in War40k lore does it have a situation like that occur on a regular basis all across the system?
Talk about immersion breaking. Compared to what War40k is supposed to be, does it even seem slightly reasonable to have that kind of daily social comraderie between the various enemy races? Also, I'm curious if they will be able to capture to true level of corruption and evil within the imperium of man or eldar as well if they make them the so called "good" faction.
Maybe a certain Chapter of SM that aren't AS zealous about the Xenos
But Dark Eldar helping anyone but Chaos and even then willingly? ahhaa
Wouldn't happen in a million years
It's just there's so many certain Clashing personalities of the Races involved in War40k that they would never team up for anything it's All out War in this universe
Warhammer Fantasy ehhh sure Order Destruction maybe on that note
LOL op is an idiot. How are GW ruining these MMO's? First off, there has only been ONE released Warhammer MMO. True it failed, but that was down to bad design, core game decisions and EA to an extent. Fortunately EA won't be involved in this endeavour
I think it was EA fault for the downfall of the fantasy one and horrible producer
2. This is THQ and Vigil. Thq has a very popular warhammer 40k series on its belt. With a vigil who actually made a really fun action adventure dark siders game. That actually has both guns and melee invovles at same time.
THQ
trust, honor, Quality.
2. 40k 2 factions can work. They have done it before in some lore on table top.
Eldar can ally with imperium. Though they have to be very sketchy when comes to interaction between the two .
Orkz only ally when it comes to something they need that kills. Like only time orkz get squigoths is when they ally with chaos. cause squigoths are a chaotic creature.
Two factions can never work...... Sure at first it might seem to work out, but in the end one faction or the other will end up zerged.
stop assuming this game will have zergs, or limitless zones
2 factions can perfectly work when you have instanced battlegrounds, or capped zones, or LOTS of small spreaded objetives which have to be taken, etc.
I sure hope this wont be one of those games where everybody can pile their army on their side of the zone and then meet, so the biggest zerg wins due to overwhelming number superiority, not to tactics or skill involved
that games are pure crap, even when they are balanced the pvp is a joke that even half trained chimps can do...

Hmm nah.
First I'll say I played WAR and the PvP was fun... but that game was riddled with bugs when it started and then the major flaw... the whole game required population balance to have fun RvR.... BECAUSE there was only 2 sides.
WAR was fun enough but... a 3+ factions WAR could have been even more fun.
At the end of the say... GW is proving that they will cave and permit just about anything for people to license their IP...
When is the last time you got to play a single player game in the 40k universe where you were a Space Marine and teamed up with an Eldar? Why don't we see this teaming up in other non-MMO games from GW...
If MMOs could not be done any differently than 2 opposing factions maybe I'd understand but there is just no logic to these moves GW keeps putting their stamp on. Give the IP to someone else who is willing to do it correctly.
