"WoW Comparison" vs "Is this game good?"

First of all thank you for looking at this post and partaking in the poll.

If you answer honestly it'll help the following debate I'm going to pose to the community a little bit.

I've been looking at a lot of previews for upcoming titles and looking for tidbits of insight and information so that I may form proper opinoins on upcoming titles and avoid being burned by a business that's sort of unforgiving. I noticed, as we all may have, that inevitably a comparison to Blizzard's World of Warcraft comes up in the discussion. Usually a dozen times a day.

"How much like WoW is this game?"

"If I liked WoW will I like this game?"

"lawlz this game kills wow dead"

I exaggerate, but we've seen these thread titles. It's been asked a dozen times before if such a debate is fair. Even Blizzard employees have weighted in and said it's not really fair to compare a new product to something that they've been working on for years.

Would the community benefit from simply weighting the merits of an upcoming MMORPG on their own?

Is a more fair question to ask yourself; "Alright I've read about these features, does that seem fun to me?"

World of Warcraft has defined what MMORPG means to a lot of people and the business has no choice but to use some of the features that will be common to the genre regardless. Does the inclusion of too many WoW-features change things (wow-clone comparison inevitable if that's the case) or does the exlcusion of too many WoW-features make people wrongfully choose games that are bad- just because they're not status quo?

This topic has been brought up before.

WoW is only a standard for WoW. However, what it does do is give a standard frame of reference that most players can relate to.

Conparing most games to WoW id like comparing apples to oranges.  WoW has advantages now that other games can only dream of.  Comparing WoW of today with a new game is completely unfair, WoW wasnt anywhere near as polished and refined at it's launch as it is today.

I voted I don't compare it to WoW, at least not whole game vs whole game. By that I mean, I do compare some individual, common features like crafting, harvesting and maybe PvP mechanics depending on the other game. I compare those features to way more than just WoW though.

The only time I compare a game to WoW is when I try out a new game and think to myself "This is just like WoW". Then I uninstall the game.

PS not flaming WoW jus sick of clones.

Does Warhammer have Factions like WoW?

Does Warhammer have instance strike Melee system like WoW, or is it queued like Aion and Guild Wars?

If it's like WoW, then I don't play it, because I got tired of that formula in 2000 when it was already 3 years old. Sadly not everyone is aware of the endless treadmill they're running on, but I got off a while ago.
