Does anybody else uncontrollably rubberband around and find it completely impossible to DO ANYTHING if they join somebody else's dungeon, but not when they solo or host one?
What causes this exactly?
Is it because there's only an east and a west server and I live in the middle?
Is it only me?
Or are they actually making whoever starts the dungeon host their own mini-server, like the source engine would allow? Because that would be a HORRIBLE IDEA.
Also, there's no jumping in this game, that's an automatic F- from me. I thought at one point they actually advertised this game as having platforming elements in it too, but maybe my memory just fails me, again. There is a bit of jumping, but it's with the /jump emote, and they didn't even bother to give us the VITAL /dance emote.
There's absolutely 0 community, and other from the gold spammers you might see on a few of the channels, there's nothing but complete silence. No general chatter, no witty chuck norris jokes in a global channel, nothing. Send somebody a whisper and you most likely will not get a response, I know I wasn't able to. Maybe this stems from the inability to team up with others and actually play correctly, but again maybe that's just my problem.
The combat is flawless, fluid, dynamic, and fun. I can find absolutely nothing wrong with the combat other than it's too easy. I shouldn't be able to solo as a mage, I should rely on a tank to take damage. As a matter of fact, I haven't even lost a single hp the few levels I played, and only lost 1 of my 5 mana shields. Maybe thats just because it's designed for beginners, it still annoys me. Maybe it's a good thing that you can solo easily with the broken party system (broken for me at least).

Vindictus works with a Peer To Peer system, so you have to connect with other players to play. If you are host, players connect to you so everything is fine on your side. You could try opening up some ports on your router. I don't remember the ports for Vindictus but you can look on Google. It will help a lot to improve your connection if you don't have uPnP, which handles port forwarding automatically.
Aside from that. Jumping is more of a design choice, although the Xtreme version has jumping apparently. No clue when we'll get that version yet. I don't recall Vindictus being advertised as having platformer elements though.
The game is easy at first, and that goes for all characters. To be more accurate, in my opinion, it gets hard once you get to Lv.30 plus, and right now, there's enough content to up to level 31-32 I believe, but it's quite a sudden change. Since it's a skill-based game, I don't think you really need to rely on a tank or anything, being good should be more than enough. Although you'll end up in a party most of the time since it's a lot more conveniant.
So it was as I feared all along.
Having a game with a peer to peer server hosting system is a bad idea.
This is why there are CS:S dedicated servers. Hell, even Steam started hosting their own dedicated servers for L4D2 because they realized that system sucked.
It's a connection type that was only used during the infancy of online gaming. It's outdated and for good reasons. People are going to insist on connecting to USA server from out of the country and no amount of port forwarding will help the latency then.
But hey, it was hard-coded into the source engine and they couldn't resist saving the extra cash they would have spent hosting real servers, so they just used that, unaware that steam is gradually phasing out that system for their own games because they realize it's outdated. Expect a source engine update soon, probably with the next big steam game to come out, and it probably won't even have peer to peer hardcoded into it anymore. They should have just made their own engine instead of using somebody else's that they have no experience with, things like that can be avoided.
And why isn't it an open-world game anyways? It's well within the limits of the source engine to make a dynamic open world. They could even make the insides of buildings, no loading screens required, they were just noobs at the source engine, they should have made their own.
It took me downloading and trying to connect to realize the game is only for America. Why don't mmorpg or the official site mention this? This is an outrage - a game that's advertised on public sites have no mention that larger part of the people in the world can't play it
Well all of Nexon.net games are NA-only. For Europe, check Nexoneu.com. Vindictus will apparently enter CBT around December for EU.
Honestly why cant people learn how to read the fine print? When you sign up for a nexon NA passport it DOES say its for north american support. Sure nexon should have a BIG FLASHY SIGN for thoes that dont bother reading but it is there at the bottom of the nexon page before you click ok.
Yes, big flashy sign would be a good start. How the .... it's support being north american or something else explain why you can't play the game? It's advertised as internatrional product - on mmorpg, ads in internet - people click and download and there's no mention "for americans only". No other game i seen would not let you connect because your IP does not belong to a certain area. It took some googling to discover it was anounced for Europe and tons+tons messages on forums from people who can't connect, some are still trying to figure if it's their connection/router etc. problem
Meh... You can read the forums for various NON-NA based games on here and find plenty of Americans who play them through various port-forwarding services. The same is true for Europeans, Asians, South Americans in Vindictus, my only proof is hosts who, when players complained of lag, admitted they live in Brazil or Europe.
There is no "tank" class. Everyone is DPS with a hint of something "unique". Around level 10, when you fight the gnoll chieftain for the first time, you'll get a small taste of what lies ahead. Even at level 20 the game is only somewhat challenging on bosses whose fights I don't know particularly well. The only dungeons I lose solo are the ones where I do something completely moronic, like die to a swinging log trap. The game is heavily reliant on learning patterns, finding tells, and being able to execute a certain dance to beat the loot out of the pinata... err... bosses.
P2P system allow Vindi to operate on a Free to Play system. The only servers Nexon has to run is for matchmaking an the town NPCs - that's it. And unfortunately, this server requires 10+ hour maintenance every week... WTF they are doing to it during that time is beyond my comprehension.
The only serious qualm I have with this game is that you can't interrupt an attack to dodge or block, so every swing has to be carefully calculated in a certain allotment of time. And if you fail at doing that a couple times, your armor is in tatters and your dancing around half naked.
By the way, I live in KC, MO and I used to play on West and was constantly joining laggy games. I found games on the East server to be a bit better, although there is still the occasional laggy game.
