What are some of your favorite console RPG's, that also have an interesting online component that actually works like it should?
They can be new or old, pvp or co-op focused, but try to give an explaination as to why it works or why it is fun.
Demon's Souls:
Just got this last week, it is moreless a single player game, an extremely unforgiving one at that, but it has some rather odd and unexpected presistent online features.
- Other players can invade your own game's world and hunt you down!
This can happen at any time while not in soul form, and it's really heart pounding when it does happen. The world itself doesn't change, there are still all the normal mobs around (which can all kill you in 2-3 hits if you're not careful), which really adds a whole other sense of strategy if you are out powered by the invader (which has always been the case so far).
In this game it's actually the only time i've ever enjoyed PvP in any game, mmo or not, especially since I fended off 3 invaders one night before even realizing this feature existed and they were other players haha.
- There is also a co-op aspect in there aswell.
I havn't tried this yet, but at any point you can use an item to set a spawn point for other players to enter your game. Anyone playing the same section you are in (but in their own game) will see this spawn point in their own game's world, and can choose to join up with you or pass you by.
Kingdom Under Fire: Circle of doom:
Had this back in my 360 days, and was one of the few games I did play online.
It plays much like any instanced based mmorpg, apart from having a Dynasty Warriors style of hack'n'slash gameplay, with much deeper character developement and weapon choices, as well as randomized maps.
- I don't remember any PvP, but it's co-op worked quite flawlessly, and given how grindy it could get if you wanted certain spells/attacks it really added a lot to the game's fun factor.
It was pretty straight forward and easy to use, all lobby based, choose a room and join or create your own. Not much else to say other than it being a great mmo alternative.
I don't have much else to contribute, been out of the online console realm for about 4 years (until recently).
Just recently made the switch from 360 to ps3, the additional monthly cost for gold made it not worthwhile for as little as I tend to play console games online, but now that my online is free, oddly enough I find myself more drawn into that aspect now lol.
Interested in seeing what else is out there that other players would consider worthwhile, reading game reviews only go so far and pales in comparison to player experiences.
